Adventures of the last Wild Dragon-Chapter 186: The Colosseum (4)
Luna walked out onto the sandy arena, she gazed up at the crowd sat all around, raucous cheering could be heard like a background thrum that poured energy into the contestants down on the ground. The feeling was electric, empowering, exciting!
She found herself smiling as she looked over the 11 other fighters that were going to be doing battle in the same small arena as herself.
Similar to Violet she had a good mix of mages, light warriors and heavy warriors. It seemed that the organisers had managed to ballence out the participants to ensure the most entertaining bouts.
Luna’s bestial eyes roved her soon to be competition, spotting the foes she thought could pose a challenge to her, and who would be easy to take out. She was not arrogant enough to believe that she would automatically be able to win, she was only at the very early stages of being a Lord all things considered.
Their was undoubtedly a number of contestants that would far exceed her level of strength. The early stages of Lordship did extent up to level 100, so surely some contestants would be at that level. That would grant them quite the boom of additional stats when compared to someone that had only just advanced.
Still it was not all about stats, her and Violet had slain foes many time stronger then themselves after all.
Whilst waiting she considered what kind of weapon she should be using for this battle. A sword and shield would probabally be a good shout, giving a good ballence between offense and defence. But, alternately she could return to using a spear, she started her journey using one and it was still her most proficient weapon, swords being only slightly below them. So with a smile she began to form a spear from ice.
As she did so the announcer began his speech once more, welcoming the new fighters before he announced the beginning of the battle.
Instantly the arena became one of utter mayhem. Spells were flung, people dashed forth, swords hit shields, axes chopped through magical missles. Within all of that, Luna prowled.
Her movements belayed her speed, her figure never quite where her foes believed it to be. She effortlessly avoided the first barrage of attacks that flew her way, consisting of a jet of water and a thrown dagger.
Luna retaliated by sending a spear of ice towards both foes that attacked her, whilst dashing forward to engage the person to her right side.
The woman their noticed her approach and brandished her two daggers, their sharp edges shinning in the gonden light coming from the distance cave roof.
The rouge suddenly shot forward, moving almost as fast as Luna could, her daggers pulled back as she prepared to cut down her foe. Unfortunately for the rouge, Luna was not an easy target to take down.
She ducked under the initial slash, her spear twirling through the air as she brought the shaft down at her foe. The rouge managed to bring her own blades up to block and parry the attack.
The beastkin rouge then moved in once more, hoping to get within Luna’s guard as her daggers suited a much closer range than what Luna would prefer.
Luna countered this by raising the butt of her spear in a vertical arc, quickly forming a blade edge on it as she manipulated the ice in real time. The rouge hastily jumped back, bearely avoiding the attack. The rouge however, was not expecting Luna to then dash forward and for her figure to split into three.
The rouge swiped out at one of the figures only for her blades to hit nothing. But when the illusory spear tip stabbed into her shoulder she suddenly found herself with a spear of ice impalling her a moment later in the same spot. She recoiled in pain, swiping her daggers around to try and get some space.
Yet Luna did not let up, finishing the fight off with a decisive stab to the side of the woman’s head. The rouge was instantly enveloped in a golden shield before her form vanished from the arena.
Luna had no time to react however, as she suddenly had to dive to the side to avoid several water bullets heading in her direction. She looked up to see the water mage had decided to focus on her.
The mage was an eleven man in flowing blue robes. He grasped a long staff in two hands as a watery dome surrounded him as bullets and lances of water shot out towards Luna.
She opted to swap out her spear for a sword and shield, her ice construct flowing into the new configuration in a moment.
With her new shield she dashed forward once more. Two illusory figures appearing besides her as she ran. Spears of ice began to form above and around her, awaiting their chance to shoot forth.
She was forced to dodge and weave around the concentrated attacks from the mage, even having to slide under the opportunistic swipe of a nearby fighters halbard. Luna did fire back one of her ice spears in retaliation for that one, scoring a minor cut along the man’s leg causing him to stumble and sealing his fate in his current duel.
The eleven mage began to get more desperate as Luna and her discussions closed the distance. More and more watery spells being flung towards her, yet not a single one landed.
She danced her way through the attacks, using skill, speed and precision to work her way forward. Before long she arrived in front of the slightly diminished watery dome, both she and her illusions struck out, easily cutting through the dome the points at which her blades touched instantly freezing over and shattering.
The mage panicked as he tried to retreat, yet Luna gave him no ground. Spears of ice lanced out in a rapid series of strikes, the water dome soon failing to hold its integrity. The moment it collapsed marked the end of the mages time in this battle, Luna moving forward with incredible speed, her sword landing on his neck in what would have been a killing blow if not for the arenas enchantments.
Luna then took a moment to observe her remaining opponents. Currently 4 remained standing, yet the other 3 seemed to be locked in an intense battle. Luna decided to observe for the moment, content to learn some of her foes skills.
The other 3 consisted of a single heavy warrior and 2 light warriors, the armoured one was a truly massive being, Luna did not recognise his race yet he towered over the other two fighters standing at nearly 8ft tall.
The giant wielded a similarly massive axe, swinging it down with impressive speed to keep the two faster foes at bay who seemed to dance around his junking frame.
Luna frowned at the two faster fighters, finding them to be lacking. At least the giant looked like an interesting foe, his study defence and impressive strength making him to be a very fun fight to battle one on one.
Like that Luna knew who to aim for. So she took a step forward, her sword held out in front of her and reappeared right in front of one of the light fighters, the man impaling himself onto Luna’s sword. Or at least he would have if a golden glow didn’t take him away.
The other light warrior faltered in his movements as he saw that happen, the giant not letting that moment of weakness go unpunished as he whipped his axe around. The man tried to bring his sword up to defend but was just a moment too slow, the giant axe head slamming into his chest and sending him flying back. A golden glow soon enveloping him before he too vanished.
The giant looked around then, noticing that he was one of the last two fighter standing. He looked down at Luna who had dismissed her ice weapons and was looking up at him with a vicious smile, clearly showing her excitement at the battle she had just experienced.
"I hope we meet in the tournament, you look like a fun opponent to fight!" Luna said to the giant.
He in turn chuckled. "I too would like to battle you. It would be a challenging fight, one that I would relish to take part in." A smile adorned his face too as he spoke. "My name is Kaldor, what be your name?"
"We’ll met Kaldor, I am Luna. Till we meet again!" Saying so she gave a wave to the man before turning around and leaving the arena.
