Adventures of the last Wild Dragon-Chapter 195: The Colosseum (13)
Masin, sat up in the crowd watched as a ceaseless barrage of magic pummelled into the seemingly invulnerable shield. The shear amount of magic being thrown around by the strange woman known as Violet was impressive.
Her magics used simple effects, bolts spears and large blasts. She did not bother with some of the more complex ways to utilise her magics, after all why should she? Masin had never seen a magic type so capable of utter destruction than hers before.
What need would she have for complex spells than hinder her foes when she could just shoot them with a spear and end them instantly? The answer was none.
Well at least that had been the case whilst she was in the lower tiers, after all it is remarkably easy to kill a being in the first three tiers. Heck even in the early stages of tier 4 it was quite easy to kill someone. But as they advanced through the tier and especially when reaching tier 5, nearly everything had some way to survive such basic attacks.
This Ivan man just so happened to be a near perfect counter to her current fighting style. He was physically stronger than her, able to counter any attacks she may throw at him up close, whilst his apparent anti magic could effortlessly negate her previously overwhelming magical might.
Masin was truly curious to to see if Violet would be able to overcome this roadblock, or if Ivan would turn out to be too much for her to handle.
**
Violet’s head was beginning to hurt, she was entirely focused on conjuring and casting so much magic than even her upgraded multicast skill was hardly able to hold out. Then she also had to worry about staying out of the way of Ivan’s continual advancement.
He never rushed forward, always maintaining a slow and inevitable pace. Always moving forwards, always getting closer.
With the amount of magic that Violet was throwing at him her void cannon took longer than normal to fully materialise, when it did however, Violet did not rush to cast it. Wanting to ensure that when it struck she landed a solid hit.
So she kept it ready, in its ’complete’ form like this it was considerably easier to maintain then when actively forming, this allowed her mind to somewhat relax and refocus on pinning down and wearing out Ivan.
Whilst thinking of how she could ensure that the man did not avoid her cannon she thought back on how Luna incapacitated her foes. Luna would freeze the ground they walked on, locking their legs in place and allowing her to have the advantage in manoeuvrability.
Whilst Violet had no skill that could do such a thing, she did have an idea on how to achieve something similar. After all Violet did have her void manipulation skill at quite a hight level.
So she focused, allowing her void to infuse into the very ground she walked on, and as she steadily moved backwards she allowed the void to sink into the ground. This way Ivan’s magic shouldn’t instantly nullify it as he walked over it. To Violet’s relief, her plan worked, Ivan walked over the void infused sand with no effect.
She smiled her idea coming into fruition. Focusing once more she infused the ground in front of Ivan with even more void, almost to the point that the ground gained a slight purple tint, thankfully this was something that Ivan seemed to miss.
She waited for him to be in the middle of the infused ground before her will sharpened, she made her mana activate and in an instant, it responded to her will. An entire section of the ground that Ivan had just stepped on simply ceased to exist, the dwarf, unprepared for such an event found himself falling forwards.
He tried to keep his shield raised in front of him towards where Violet was, yet she had already blinked away, appearing right behind him. Then she unleashed her void cannon.
The world turned purple for an instant, then the void erupted forth, erasing everything in its path.
Ivan, even in his off valences state, sensed the incoming attack, he was unable to turn to face the attack, yet he could still respond with his magic. The ethereal shell that covered his body thickened at his back, reinforcing the barrier meant to protect him from any and all magical attacks.
The two magics met, their was no explosion, no grand spectacle. It was simply a clash of utter nothingness and a concept that denied all magic.
The glowing purple cannon impacted the anti magic barrier, at first it seemed like that barrier would be able to hold out, yet to those that paid careful attention, they would notice that the barrier was shrinking at a worrying rate.
Violet poured her mana into the cannon, not allowing it to end until she was sure of victory. She could feel her mana draining at a precipitous pace, yet she did not let up. Her void was slowly winning out over the anti magic, she just had to keep up the pressure and she knew that she could prevail.
Yet as she focused on pouring so much mana into her spell she failed to realise that the skill itself would be unable to handle such a throughput of mana. Like that the spell circle began to break down.
As the two opposing forces collided it became a test of endurance, would Ivan’s barrier break first or would violets spell break instead. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
In the end, Violet’s spell broke.
A crack resounded through the arena, like reality itself broke but for a moment. Then the world once more turned purple.
Violet was violently thrown back, the force of the magic circle breaking enough to catapult her away to slam into the arena wall.
The arena went silent as the crowd blinked away their momentary blindness.
Violet struggled to her feet, her entire body aced, it felt like she had just been stepped on by a giant whilst at the same time suffering from a monstrous headache from the mana backlash.
Her vision was blurry as she tried to locate her foe, soon she was able to identify the crater where Ivan was previously located. Yet, she did not see anyone within the hole in the ground. She began to look around in panic, trying to identify where Ivan was, yet she could not find him.
Confusion wracked her pained mind as she wondered where he was. However, she was soon broken out of her muddled concentration by the voice of the announcer.
"And we have our first finalist! In a climactic finale to this battle Ivan was teleported out of the arena, leaving Violet as our first challenger to enter the finals! Give it up for Violetttt!"
Violet stood there in surprise as the crowd erupted into cheers, she tried to think back on how exactly she had won that. The last thing she remembered was her skill breaking and then a flash of golden purple light... she paused, her spell should have a golden glow, so, she must have broken through Ivan’s barrier a moment before her spell broke down!
A smile found its way onto her lips, relief washing over her as she finally processed that she had actually won! With a wave at the crowd Violet turned around and began to limp her way out of the arena to get healed up in time for the finals. She just hoped that Luna would be able to win her match so that they could have a battle against each other in the finals.
