Adventures of the last Wild Dragon-Chapter 198: The Colosseum (16)
The finals was delayed for a hour after Luna’s victory and prompt collapse due to mana exhaustion. Naturally the event organisers did not want the main event to be a wash with one exhausted fighter against a relatively well rested one.
So Luna was fed high quality potions to restore her mana and hilt also being check over by skilled healers. Thankfully she was basically back to full health after only 30 minutes, still they were given a full hour so she intended to use it to fully reset herself for the upcoming battle.
She did not return to the same waiting room after her fight, staying in the medical room instead. One other thing had happened, for maybe the first time since she had received her bond with Violet, the two of them had chosen to limit what each other could feel passing through it.
It was impossible for them to fully prevent everything from passing between them. They did however make a noted effort to limit that. Of course Violet did still check in with Luna after the fight to ensure that she was alright, they were still companions after all and cared deeply for one another.
The reason for this was simple, at least to them. The two wanted this to be a true fight, they had always fought besides one another, always working together to tackle anything that threatened them. But they had always wondered who was actually stronger between the two.
Both girls were naturally quite competitive, Violet noticeably more so than Luna, yet with Luna’s evolution into a beast her more primal instincts had kicked in. So whilst they would always want to work together, they also instinctively wanted to know who between the two was truly stronger.
The remaining time before the match passed both quickly and slowly for the two finalists. They waited in near silence, both of them contemplating how they would go about in the upcoming fight. Both reflecting on what they had learnt and what they could do to improve.
Violet focused on her magic naturally, she began to contemplate how she could use her magic differently. What new ways she could use her powerful mana to defeat her foes.
Whilst Violet did always prefer a more direct approach, which was mirrors in how her skills tended towards being simple but effective. She had started to understand that her approach may not always be the optimal option, as demonstrated in her last fight, it was only through clever use of her mana that she was able to gain the advantage.
Luna on the other hand focused on both her magic and martial skills. She had always leaned more on her martial abilities, not to say that she did not use her magic fluidly when fighting. It was more that her magic was more instinctual, more primal than something that she actively thought about.
Her martial skills however, that was something that she prided herself on, she had only been begining her physical training with her parents when they were killed. As such she felt like she was honouring them somewhat when she used her swords, spears or any other weapon.
At the same time she knew that she had much to learn in that aspect. Nearly everything that she know about how to wield weapons was thaught to her by herself whilst in real combat and the skills gained from the system. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
It was during her match with Kaldor that she truly began to understand the fact that she had been left lacking in actual skill whilst wielding her weapons. Luna was quite thankfull to Kaldor for showing her that fault in her style.
Soon enough both girls were brought out into the arena one final time, they stood apart from one another by 10 meters, the crowd was once again cheering, the ground shaking with their enthusiasm. Yet for the two companions they were entirely focused on one another.
It was only thanks to the booming voice that they even noticed that the announcer was speaking.
"Welcome back to our final fight of the night! We have one hell of a fight for you all here. Two completely new fighters, both ladies having suddenly arrived out of nowhere to utterly dominate the competition. One wields arcane magic of unparalleled destructive might whilst still been able to throw fists with the best of them. The other a formidable fighter with ice and illusions as her supporting act."
"Now they have both managed to reach it all the way to the finals of their first ever tournament in our fine colosseum! Who will win between these two prodigies? Will it be the one who fires off spells faster than I can count? Or will it be the woman that can attack you from 4 sides with 8 swords at the same time?"
"Let’s give it up for Violet and Lunaaa!!" Once more the colosseum erupted in noise, the very air thrumming with palpable tension. Around each contestant the world began to take on aspects of their power.
Their two presences unconsciously unfurled, for the first time they did not meld together, instead pushing against one another’s. Fighting for dominance, testing the boundaries and trying to gain ground.
Around Luna the sand frosted over, the temperature dropping to turn into a fully fledged Arctic environment.
Violet too was effecting the world around her, yet how she effected the world was both subtler yet paradoxically much more noticeable, at least to those able to truly sense the flows of mana.
The air around Violet was taking on a distinctive purple hue, the very concept of the void seeping into reality itself under the influence of the Primordial Void Dragon. Small near unnoticeable cracks forming in the fabric of reality, the world unable to fully withstand the concerted influence that Violet emitted at that moment.
The two companions stared at each other, their presences forming an invisible wall right between the two. Each of the girls smiling wide as they waited for the fight to truly begin.
Thankfully they did not have to wait for long.
"Now, with both fighters ready, let the final battle of the tournament begin!!"
