Adventures of the last Wild Dragon-Chapter 207: The Guild Test
Surprisingly it was Susan that stepped forwards first. She held her back straight and looked straight into Kaldor’s eyes as she spoke up.
"I will go first. Whilst my skill with direct attacks may be somewhat lacking I am confident in my defence and ability to control a battlefield."
"Very good, and fear not for support types I make sure to take that into account when deciding on if you shall pass or not. Also please do not hold back, we have a similar barrier as is present in the colosseum. It will activate to stop a powerful attack that would be about to claim one’s life. So feel free to use what trump cards you have to secure your victory."
"With that said, begin!" He then leapt backwards, away from Susan and opening up some space between the two of them. He did take out his axe, but he held it in a defensive stance.
Susan for her part did not immediately attack, instead she opted to set up the battlefield to her advantage.
Bubbles began to appear around her, slowly increasing in number as they spread out around the battlefield. Only after around half of the arena was covered did she then begin her attack. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
Jets of water fired out from her wand, its blue glow bolstering the power of her skills. Kaldor reacted with speed and precision, either slicing through the jets or simply moving out of the way when possible.
Susan directed the bubbles to begin closing in on his position, limiting the space that he could move. She also began to intermix some smaller water bullets, allowing them to bounce off the bubbles to create a dizzying barrage of attacks.
Yet Kaldor was not fazed, he simply sped up to continue dodging and parrying the attacks. His defence seemed impenetrable for Susan, at least until he brushed against a nearby bubble.
With a resounding POP he was sent stumbling away, right into the path of a water jet that struck him right in the chest. This too sent him stumbling back, yet another bubble coming into contact with him. Already knocked off ballence he was nearly spent sprawling on the ground, yet managed to turn it into a roll to avoid several bullets coming for him.
After that he had adapted to the effects of the bubbles and was able to mostly deal with them. Then after the minute was up he lept back once again and spoke up. "Time!" Susan stopped her assult and let out a small sigh of disappointment at her seeming lackluster performance.
"You did well, for someone obviously not focused on attacks you utilised your skills well to control my movements. But now we get to see how well you can defend, now let the next part begin!"
He waited no longer, charging forward with light streaks of electricity running down his legs to boost his speed. Susan tried to move her bubbles into the way, yet he moved too quickly, his axe lashed out cutting apart what bubbles he could not avoid and dispersing their kickback effect.
Soon he was right in front of Susan? His axe swinging down into her. A shield of water sprang up to deflect his attack, then it surged forwards to envelop the warrior and send him staggering backwards and right into a bubble.
He was slightly knocked off ballence, yet recovered quickly before closing the distance.
Susan tried ever trick that she had to defend, from all of her magical options to simply diving away at the last minute. Yet she was unable to avoid him forever, soon she foundgerself frozen in place with Kaldors axe hovering centimetres away from her neck.
After a prolonged moment he pulled it away, Susan dropping her skills at the same time. " you did well, a solid defence that shows good judgement. Yet you are obviously used to fighting alongside others as you lack a decisive was to lockdown and control a foe, still a solid performance, well done!"
She smiled slightly at his assessment understanding that he meant the best for her.
"Now then, who is next?"
Violet opted to go next, stepping forward with a wide smile. "Me! I’ll be fighting you next! Let’s have a good fight!"
"Bwahahah! Good, good! Now let us begin!" With that he once again kept backwards creating space between himself and Violet.
Violet for her part instantly began to cast her void cannon, its magical lines of nothingness carving themselves into reality. As she was doing that a barrage of bolts and spears was sent flying straight at Kaldor.
He was clearly having more trouble avoiding her relentless attacks than he did with Susan’s. Then when she threw in the stray beam attack it only added to his struggles.
He tried to cut through the spears only to find his basic axe was not enough, forcing him to utilise his mana to bolster it.
Then after only 10 seconds of the fight Violet was ready with her void cannon. She had a new idea for how she could ensure that the ability landed and wanted to test it out here and now.
As the magical circle flashed purple, signaling that it was charged and ready to cast she stopped firing her bolts and spears, instead opting to multicast her void shields.
Three shields instantly snapped into reality, one right behind Kaldor, and then one to each side. Leaving only the directing facing violet free, it was just that currently a barrel sized blast of void was flying in that direction.
Kaldors eyes opened wide in shock as he likely felt the range that skill represented. A powerful surge of electricity costing his axe as he made a wide swing in the direction of the cannon blast.
Electricity met void, for a moment electricity seemed to be coming out on top. But only for a moment, then the electricity fizzled out and the void overwhelmed and surged onwards, directly at Kaldor.
A blue glow briefly illuminated his form as the cannon impacted, Violet not keeping the skill up for more than half a second to ensure nothing bad happened in case the shield broke.
When the cannon died out a slightly frazzled Kaldor was left standing there, the remnants of the blue shield finding away from his body. He looked up at Violet and let out a huff.
"Well I’ll be damned, I think that is the fasted that I have ever been beaten during a test. That was some damn good magic right there, I didn’t stand a chance when just defending."
"Umu, my magic is very destructive. Now is it your turn to attack me?" Violet said with some excitement.
"Saddly not no..."
"Ehhhh!? But, why not?" Violet whined.
" regulations say that if the instructor looses the first round the applicant automatically passes the test. So I suppose congratulations for your victory. But if you do want a propper spar at some point so let me know!"
"Aww, okay that fine I suppose." Violet said whilst obviously not very happy with that outcome, even though she had passed.
With that she moodily made her way back over to her friends, Luna giving her a quick hug as she returned to her side. "Good job Violet, you are really strong eh!" Luna whispered to her. The praise lifting her mood instantly and causing her to blush slightly as her tail wagged behind her.
"Ehehe I suppose so." She said as she enjoyed the hug with her companion.
Kaldor then coughed to get their attention once again. "Now only two of you are left, so who will go next?"
