Chapter 113: Chapter 113: I’ve Stirred Up Some Trouble

Moira Sloan knew who was calling before she even answered the phone.

Sure enough, after she answered, she heard Master Jennings’s commanding voice. "Moira Sloan."

Hearing his voice, Moira’s lips curled into a faint sneer, but her tone was perfectly respectful. "Mr. Jennings."

Master Jennings asked, "Are you and Connor in Atheria?"

’He’s asking the obvious.’

"Yes," Moira replied.

"There’s a family dinner tonight," Master Jennings said. "You and Connor are to come back for it."

Hearing Master Jennings’s words, Moira raised an eyebrow. Her first instinct was to refuse, but she changed her mind at the last second and replied with a smile, "Alright."

After hanging up with Master Jennings, Moira turned to Flora Rhodes. "Take me back to the hotel first."

Flora Rhodes’s brow furrowed. She had heard Moira say ’Mr. Jennings’ and couldn’t help but worry. "Master Jennings?"

"Mhm," Moira hummed, not bothering to hide it.

Flora asked, "He wants you to go to the Jennings’s place later?"

Moira knew what she was about to say. She opened the passenger door and slid in, resting her chin on her beautiful fingers and deliberately striking a languid, enchanting pose. "It’s a trap."

Seeing Moira act this way, Flora couldn’t help but chuckle. The worry in her eyes vanished in an instant.

’The Jennings family might be a lion’s den, but this woman is no helpless lamb.’

A short while later, Flora Rhodes drove Moira Sloan to her hotel.

Moira pushed the door open and got out. Before she left, she handed Flora a business card. "Keep this. Just in case."

Flora caught the card and looked at her, puzzled. "Hm?"

"It’s better to be safe than sorry," Moira said. "You appeared with me at the competition today, and you were the one who gave me the invitation. I’ve been thinking about it, and I’m worried you’ll get dragged into this."

Flora was touched, but she also teased, "So you already found me a way out?"

’This definitely wasn’t a spur-of-the-moment decision; she must have arranged this ages ago.’

"You’d go to bat for me," Moira said, "so I can’t just stand by and watch you sink into the mud—especially when you only fell in because of me."

Flora made a fist and playfully punched Moira’s arm. "I knew I picked the right friend."

A smile spread across Moira’s face. "It’s my fourth senior brother’s company. He’ll find a suitable position for you."

Flora and Moira had been best friends for six or seven years, so she didn’t stand on ceremony. "Alright, I’ll quit my job tonight."

Moira teased, "Tonight’s no good. My fourth senior brother has a very active nightlife."

Flora went, "Ooh."

’Now that’s what I like to hear.’

’We have the same tastes.’

After parting ways with Flora, Moira took the elevator upstairs. When she got off, she pulled out her phone and sent Connor Quinn a text: Where are you?

Connor Quinn: Getting a tattoo.

Moira: Another one?

Connor sent a photo over.

Moira tapped to enlarge it and saw what he was getting tattooed: a string of letters, which looked like the initials of someone’s name.

Seeing that Connor was busy, Moira didn’t waste any time and briefly relayed what Master Jennings had said.

After texting that, Moira paused before adding: Ten to one, they’re after me. You’re just getting caught in the crossfire.

Connor replied: Meet at the gate of The Jennings Estate in an hour.

Moira: OK.

Putting her phone away, Moira swiped her keycard and entered the room.

She went into the bedroom, pulled a champagne-colored silk gown from her suitcase, and changed into it. After applying some sultry makeup, she transferred twenty thousand to Anson Lawson and sent a message: Go clear your head for a bit. Leave now, don’t stay in Atheria.

Anson replied instantly: Moira, what do you mean by this?

Moira: Don’t read too much into it. When you’re done clearing your head, come find me directly in Everwood County.

She had said she would take Anson on as her disciple, and she meant it.

Moira could be a bit lazy in her daily life, but in all other matters, she was a woman of her word.

After receiving Moira’s second message, Anson understood her intentions. She returned the twenty thousand and sent a new message: I’ll go straight to Everwood County and wait for you.

Moira: Not even going to listen to your master? If you’re this rebellious, how am I supposed to manage you in the future?

Immediately, Moira resent the twenty thousand that Anson had returned.

This time, Anson accepted it and replied: Thank you, Master.

Moira: Good.

The tender moment between master and disciple didn’t last long, because Moira still had a huge mess to deal with.

A few minutes later, she left the hotel and hailed a cab to The Jennings Estate.

When the car arrived, she paid the fare and got out. She had only taken a few steps when she saw Connor Quinn standing at the gate of The Jennings Estate.

Their eyes met. Moira sauntered over in her high heels, affectionately linking her arm with his. She leaned her soft body against him, her fragrant breath tickling his ear as she let out a delicate laugh. "Boss Quinn, what should I do? It seems I’ve gotten you into trouble."
