Chapter 118: Chapter 118: Budding Possessiveness

Moira Sloan feigned a delicate shyness.

She was teasing and seductive, deploying her captivating charm to perfection.

Connor Quinn watched her with an intense gaze, his Adam’s apple bobbing.

Moira Sloan was very pleased with his reaction, her toned legs slowly tightening around his waist.

Just as things were about to get out of hand, Connor Quinn cupped the back of her neck with his large hand and pressed her head against his shoulder. "Be good," he said in a husky voice. "Stop fooling around."

Her laughter was muffled against his shoulder. "You don’t want to?"

Connor Quinn said, "It wouldn’t be good for you."

Moira Sloan rubbed her soft body against his, continuing to tease him. "If you really want to, we could..."

Connor Quinn said, "We have plenty of time."

Moira Sloan was still in a daze when he carried her back to the bedroom.

’This damn man’s self-control was insane. Not only did he put her on the bed, but he also pulled the covers over her, wrapping her up like a cocoon.’

Only her eyes were left showing.

So all she could do was glare at him.

Connor Quinn leaned down and gave her a passionate, wet kiss. "Be good. Stop fooling around."

After leaving Moira’s room, Connor Quinn went straight into the bathroom.

Moira Sloan had been inexplicably pouting, but when she heard the shower start, the corner of her eye lifted in a satisfied smirk.

「The next day.」

Moira Sloan slept exceptionally well that night, and she woke up feeling refreshed and in high spirits.

After breakfast, she and Connor Quinn took a taxi to the airport.

On the way to the airport, she sat lounged languidly in the back seat and sent an email to Cassie Blanchett.

The email contained the complete, clear, and unedited video of every interaction between Shane Jennings and Rachel Yates outside Suite 327 of The Continental Hotel.

After sending the email, she immediately sent a text to Cassie Blanchett: *You can judge the truth for yourself. All the best.*

Cassie Blanchett replied instantly: *You’re ruthless.*

A smile touched Moira Sloan’s lips. *I went easy on them for your sake.*

’Otherwise, she could have made things far more miserable for that wretched pair.’

After sending the text, Moira Sloan put her phone away and leaned naturally against Connor Quinn’s shoulder, closing her eyes for a brief rest.

’Honestly, she believed Shane Jennings when he said he hadn’t slept with Rachel Yates.’

’It wasn’t for any other reason. She’d known him for eight years and they’d been together for seven. She knew his personality all too well. He was the type who always weighed the pros and cons. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to sleep with Rachel Yates; he was just afraid she’d become clingy.’

’As for everything else—just how far their flirtation went...’

’...it was hard to say.’

’And she couldn’t be bothered to think about it.’

When the taxi arrived at the airport, Moira Sloan shielded her eyes from the sun and watched Connor Quinn grab their suitcase from the trunk.

When he walked over, she linked her arm through his affectionately and said in a wheedling tone, "Do you want spicy crayfish for dinner tonight?"

Connor Quinn looked down at her and raised an eyebrow. "I do."

Moira Sloan grinned. "And sweet and sour pork ribs?"

Connor Quinn said, "Mm-hm."

"I knew you did," Moira Sloan said cheekily.

Moira Sloan didn’t realize it, but after everything that had happened, her relationship with Connor Quinn had grown much closer.

They arrived back in Everwood County over two hours later.

Connor Quinn went to his shop, while Moira Sloan went home for a bit before taking a taxi to the hospital.

A caregiver had been hired to help out at the hospital, since neither she nor Connor had been around for the past two days.

When Moira Sloan arrived, the caregiver was asking Jade Quinn about Connor.

The caregiver looked to be in her early twenties, and her admiration for Connor was clear in everything she said.

"Is your brother married?"

Jade Quinn pursed her lips. She seemed reserved, not knowing the woman well. "No."

The caregiver’s face lit up. "Does he have a girlfriend, then?"

Jade Quinn shook her head. "No."

The caregiver was all smiles. "Why not? Your brother looks like he’s around thirty. At that age..."

The caregiver was mid-sentence when Moira Sloan, who had been standing at the doorway listening for some time, cut in. "He has no money, that’s why."

The caregiver froze at the sound of her voice.

Moira Sloan strode in and casually set down her handbag. She greeted Jean Hale first, then walked over to pat Jade Quinn’s head before turning to the caregiver with a brilliant smile. "Were you thinking of setting Boss Quinn up with a nice girl?"

The caregiver gave an awkward laugh. "And you are?"

Moira Sloan introduced herself with a charming laugh. "I’m Boss Quinn’s neighbor. I own the lacquerware shop right next to his tattoo parlor."

As she spoke, she affably pulled up a chair and sat down next to the caregiver. With a perfectly calm expression, she said, "Boss Quinn is a great guy. He’s not just handsome, he’s kindhearted, too. He’s always helping us neighbors out. Me, for instance, or the owner of the convenience store across the street, or the woman who runs the hair salon on the next block..."

Well now. All of them women.

Moira Sloan continued, "His only drawback is that he’s poor. Dirt poor. No car, no house, no savings, and he’s got quite a bit of debt..."

The caregiver: "..."

Moira Sloan asked, "You were just asking about Boss Quinn. Do you know a nice girl you want to set him up with?"

The caregiver’s expression was strained. "N-no." 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

Moira Sloan looked regretful. "Oh, really?"

The caregiver stammered, "I-I was just asking."

Moira Sloan feigned a sigh and stood up. She started walking toward Jean Hale’s bed, about to say something more, when she saw Connor Quinn standing in the doorway.

Moira Sloan: "!!"

The next second, Moira Sloan pressed her lips together and looked down, picking at her fingernails.

’She wasn’t flustered.’

’Everything she said was true.’

’She was just trying to help, to save Jade Quinn from an awkward situation.’
