After Betrayal - I Married a Handsome Tycoon-Chapter 12: Not on the Same Path
Moira Sloan figured Connor Quinn’s interest in her was purely superficial—lust at first sight. He wouldn’t have much patience.
He was just a blind date, after all. They had no emotional connection.
He was only a little more interested because he found her prettier than other women.
That’s just how men were, especially one in his thirties who’d never been in a relationship.
Whether it was a physical or emotional response, they were bound to feel something when they saw a beautiful woman.
If they didn’t, it just meant the woman in question wasn’t beautiful enough.
Moira Sloan had always been beautiful, and she knew it.
Besides, she always thought the idea of being "beautiful but unaware of it" was hypocritical. If a person didn’t even know whether they were attractive or not, how stupid would they have to be?
And just as Moira had expected...
After she said her piece, Connor Quinn fell silent.
Moira took a couple of steps forward and happened to spot a taxi. She paused, glanced back at him one last time, but ultimately said nothing as she bent her slender frame and slipped into the car.
’If you don’t like someone, don’t give them false hope.’
’Hope just sets you up for disappointment.’ 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
As Moira’s taxi drove away, Connor Quinn watched her go before pulling out his phone and making a call.
When the call connected, Connor Quinn stated three words in a flat voice, "Come get me."
A few minutes later, an unremarkable Volkswagen pulled up. The car was covered in a thick layer of dust, looking like it hadn’t been washed in ages. Blondie from the tattoo shop hopped out of the driver’s seat, a cheeky grin on his face as he greeted him, "Connor."
"Yeah," Connor replied.
Connor Quinn always wore a deadpan poker face, so Blondie wasn’t fazed by his lukewarm reaction. He cheerfully ignored the cold shoulder and pressed on, "So, Connor, how did it go today? I saw you get into a taxi with the owner of the shop next door."
Connor swung his long legs into the car. "Nothing happened."
Blondie’s full name was Zachary Curran. Hearing Connor Quinn’s response, his expression turned odd. "Huh."
Connor shot him a sideways glance.
The look made Zachary Curran feel guilty. He scratched the back of his head. "Connor, don’t get mad at me for saying this, but... that owner... she doesn’t seem like she’s from the same world as us."
’We’re just a bunch of rough-and-tumble guys, and she’s so... delicate.’
’To use their own words from their gossip session this afternoon, even the way she walked was captivating.’
’A woman like that... she’s not someone an ordinary man can handle.’
When Zachary Curran finished, he saw Connor Quinn frowning in silence and didn’t dare say another word. He scurried back into the driver’s seat.
Meanwhile, Moira’s taxi arrived at her apartment complex. Just as she paid the fare and got out, the security guard at the gate called out to her.
A smile bloomed on Moira’s face as she answered. The old man then hauled out two large boxes from his booth.
"A friend of yours left these here. Said they’re for you."
Moira raised an eyebrow. "A friend of mine?"
’I’ve been quiet and reserved since I was young. My personality only opened up after I found success in Atheria. I have practically no friends in Everwood County.’
Sensing her suspicion, the guard explained, "A tall, handsome man, wearing glasses. He looked refined, but he had this... presence about him. You could tell right away he wasn’t just anybody..."
The guard trailed off, lost in thought. When he focused his eyes again, the spot in front of him was empty. Just as he was about to look for her, he heard a sharp RRRIP! next to him. He looked down and saw that Moira had already pulled a key from her small purse, squatted down, and was slicing open a box.
The box opened, and its contents—along with a flood of memories—came rushing back to her.
Moira narrowed her eyes. ’I really want to start cursing.’
The next moment, Moira stood up from the two boxes, dusted off her hands, and looked up at the security guard with a smile. "Sir, please take a look and see if there’s anything you can use. If not, would you mind giving me a hand and throwing them out...?"
