After Betrayal - I Married a Handsome Tycoon-Chapter 150: Little Drama Queen
The woman in the video was like a pampered little drama queen.
You had to put her on a pedestal, coax her, and pamper her.
Even when you knew she was setting a trap, you had to jump in headfirst.
But what could you do? He liked her.
Hearing Connor Quinn’s reply, Moira Sloan’s red lips curved into a satisfied smile. "Alright, I’m going to rest now, Boss Quinn. Good night."
Connor Quinn replied, "Mm, good night."
After hanging up, Connor Quinn put his phone away. Miles Murray, who had been standing a short distance behind him, walked over. "She’s so high-maintenance. You can really put up with that?"
Connor Quinn looked back at him. "Why wouldn’t I be able to?"
Miles Murray gave his blunt assessment, "Too dramatic."
Connor Quinn’s voice was even. "You’re only looking at the surface. Of course you think she’s being dramatic."
"Surface? What surface?" Miles Murray teased. "I think you’re just hopped up on hormones. You guarantee you won’t get sick of it after a while?"
Connor Quinn leaned back into the sofa, appearing relaxed and casual. But as he glanced down at the phone he’d tossed on the coffee table, his eyes darkened. When he spoke again, his voice was low and serious. "Have you ever wondered why she acts that way?"
Miles Murray raised an eyebrow, confused. "Hm?"
’There’s a reason for being a drama queen?’
Connor Quinn said in a low voice, "She’s not just being dramatic. She’s constantly seeking reassurance from the people around her that she is loved."
Hearing this, Miles Murray’s expression stiffened. He then awkwardly raised a hand to rub the tip of his nose.
Miles Murray knew a little about Moira Sloan’s family situation.
Her mother had died of breast cancer when she was three, and her father’s whereabouts were unknown. She had lived with her maternal grandmother ever since she was a child.
Apparently, in the early years, her grandmother had to help her uncle and aunt raise their children, so she brought Moira Sloan to live with them. The aunt was notoriously shrewish. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
So, one could only imagine what kind of life Moira Sloan had during those years.
A girl who grew up in an environment like that, to be honest, was bound to have some emotional issues.
For instance, a lack of love.
A great, great lack of love.
Miles Murray had only been joking around, but thinking about all this, he suddenly felt that Moira Sloan was actually quite pitiful.
When he compared this to her dramatic antics...
Tsk, it really didn’t seem like such a big deal anymore.
Besides, when it came to her and Connor Quinn, one was willing to dish it out and the other was willing to take it.
After a moment, Miles Murray changed the subject. "By the way, about Mrs. Alden, we’ve been investigating for over half a month and haven’t found anything unusual. We did, however, find quite a bit on Finn Fuller."
Connor Quinn looked up. "What did you find?"
Miles Murray said, "Before Master Alden’s accident, Finn Fuller paid him a visit."
Connor Quinn asked, "And?"
Miles continued, "Here’s the strange part. After Master Alden’s accident, The Premier Pavilion suddenly received an outside investment. Of course, that’s not the main thing. The key is that right at that critical moment, Finn Fuller’s personal account received a large deposit—five million."
Five million.
In their circle, that wasn’t a huge amount, but it wasn’t a small sum either.
If Finn Fuller had sold a respectable piece around that time, a five-million deposit would have been perfectly normal. The problem was, ever since being expelled by his master, Finn Fuller hadn’t produced a single noteworthy work.
He did win an award overseas a few years back.
The flashy, insubstantial kind.
So-called experts abroad who didn’t know any better praised it to the high heavens, but legitimate insiders back home didn’t buy it for a second.
When Miles finished, he looked at Connor Quinn. "Do you think Finn Fuller was behind it? And that it has nothing to do with Mrs. Alden? Her relationship with Master Alden was legendary in our circle—they were known for being a deeply devoted couple..."
"I only believe in evidence," Connor Quinn said.
Anything else could be an illusion.
But behind the evidence, there will always be the truth.
「The next day.」
Thanks to the sleep-inducing effects of the alcohol, Moira Sloan had slept well the previous night.
The next morning, she got up, washed up, and went down to the hotel’s first-floor restaurant for breakfast, feeling refreshed.
A beautiful woman will always attract attention, no matter the time or place.
While she was eating, a man came over to hit on her, handing her a business card with a look of self-assured charm.
Moira Sloan lifted her gaze to glance at him, her gentle eyes sparkling. "Sorry, I have a boyfriend."
He persisted, "A beautiful girl like you shouldn’t have just one boyfriend."
Moira Sloan smiled, mentally flipping him the bird.
’Just great.’
’I had a great appetite, too. I could have easily gained a pound from this meal. But nope, I’m full now.’
Being away from home, Moira Sloan didn’t want to make enemies.
’People these days carry grudges heavier than any ghost.’
’You see someone looking all prim and proper one moment, but who knows what kind of crazy stunt they’ll pull the next.’
Under the man’s supremely confident gaze, Moira Sloan accepted the business card with a polite smile.
The next second, she got up and left, tossing the card into a trash can as she got on the elevator.
’A trash can. The best home for trash.’
As the elevator went up, Moira Sloan looked down at her phone, aimlessly scrolling through her social feed when a call from Lillian Kidd suddenly came in.
Moira Sloan answered, and Lillian Kidd’s soft, gentle voice came from the other end. "Moira, are you busy?"
