After Breaking the Persona, I Reach the Peak of My Life-Chapter 914 - 903: Offending the Nine Pavilions
After midnight, Qing City appeared particularly silent. At the dock, the river water shimmered under the faint light, sometimes undulating, sometimes making a gurgling sound.
A motorboat emitted mechanical noises as it sailed from afar, carving wave after wave on the originally silent river, eventually docking beside a cargo ship.
A few people got off the motorboat, wearing sunglasses. They all looked strong, and the man leading them had a cigarette in his mouth, hands in his pockets, as he disembarked and surveyed the surrounding cargo ships, finally focusing on a medium-sized white cargo ship three ships away from them.
The man discarded the cigarette butt that was almost finished, crushed it with his shoe, then removed his sunglasses, nodding his chin towards the people behind him. The muscular men saw this and started walking toward that cargo ship.
The strong man strode across the flat, wide cargo ship, his eyes scanning beneath the sunglasses the more than half-filled boxes stacked on the ship. He approached one of the boxes, pulled out a small knife from his pocket, swiftly sliced through the tape outside the box, and examined its contents.
"Hey, who are you!"
A flashlight’s beam shone on the strong man’s face, his expression shifted instantly, and he turned to the person, giving a knee to their abdomen without a word.
A scream erupted, and the on-duty worker fell to the ground, trembling as he pointed at the strong man. Ignoring him, the strong man picked up the flashlight and approached the box again, shining the light inside. Seeing the batch of silk inside, he pocketed the flashlight, then poked his head out and whistled to the men below the cargo ship.
Soon, five or six men climbed aboard the cargo ship. The leading man looked at the situation on the ship and said lightly, "It seems like they haven’t loaded all the goods yet."
"Second-in-command, what should we do?"
"What do you mean ’what should we do’?" The second-in-command put his sunglasses back on, pulled a cigarette pack from his pocket, took a cigarette out, and held it. "Of course, we take as much as we can."
Lighting the cigarette with the help of someone beside him, he took a heavy drag, exhaled a smoke ring, "Our task isn’t to take all their goods, just ensure the Zheng Family can’t ship the day after tomorrow."
"True," said the man beside the second-in-command, glancing at the brothers inspecting the cargo ship, "but isn’t it strange? Would the Zheng Family really leave their latest silk unattended on the ship?"
Hearing this, the man smoking suddenly paused, his eyes wide as he tossed the cigarette onto the ship. "Damn it! We’ve been tricked!"
With that, he shouted, "Pull back! It’s an ambush!"
But his call was met with silence, an utterly quiet environment.
The man took off his sunglasses and spat angrily, saying to the muscular men beside him, "Let’s get out of here!"
"S-Se, second-in-command," the strong man swallowed nervously, "we might not... be able to get down..."
"What?!"
"He’s right; you can’t get down anymore." A silver fang mask glinted coldly in the night, held by someone gripping a black handgun, stepping steadily up from the cargo ship.
The second-in-command’s eyes widened, "You’re from Nine Pavilion in Qing City?!" 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
"I didn’t expect Nine Pavilion’s reputation to reach Yan City," Meng Chi smiled slightly, then his expression changed, "Since you know Qing City is Nine Pavilion’s territory, you’re quite bold to cause trouble here!"
The second-in-command sneered coldly, "I advise you not to bite off more than you can chew. Nine Pavilion is nothing in Yan City. We’re just here on a task to hit Zheng Family’s goods, so if you know what’s good for you..."
"If you had any sense, you wouldn’t have come to Qing City."
A cold, indifferent voice rose slowly behind the second-in-command. He turned abruptly, faced with a golden half-mask. The mask’s intricately intertwined floral motifs outlined a touch of allure and coldness, and beneath it, a pair of star-like eyes emitted a chilling light in the dark, penetrating the heart.
At the same moment the youth appeared, those hidden on the cargo ship revealed themselves, all saying, "Pavilion Master."
The youth stood backlit by moonlight. The golden mask shone coldly under its glow. With chin slightly raised, those star-like eyes void of any emotion, red lips curled, parted slightly, "Nine Pavilion is responsible for Zheng Family’s goods. No matter who you are, if you mess with Nine Pavilion, don’t expect to leave Qing City in peace!"
