After Divorce I Married a Tycoon-Chapter 141: Green Tea Sarcasm
Just as he thought.
One second, Adrian Sutton had a bad feeling.
The next, Mr. and Mrs. Sutton found him.
The elderly couple looked ready to hold him accountable.
Just moments ago, they had been smiling amiably at Claire Mercer.
But the moment they found Adrian Sutton, their gazes turned sharp.p>Mr. Sutton narrowed his eyes, gritting the few teeth he had left.
"You brat, don’t you think you owe us an explanation?"
Mrs. Sutton also snorted in displeasure.
"Exactly. You’ve been married for so long, but you still haven’t brought your wife to see us. Is this how you fool us?"
Adrian Sutton gave a helpless, wry smile and explained.
"Grandfather, Grandmother, it’s not that I don’t want to bring Claire to see you."
"It’s just that Claire is busy preparing for a fashion design competition and can’t get away."
"I don’t believe you." Mr. Sutton thumped his cane. "Can’t she even spare a day or two?"
"Even if she couldn’t get away, you still objected when we said we’d come see her. You just don’t want your wife to meet us. You’re just embarrassed by us."
"How could I ever be embarrassed by you?" Adrian Sutton said, exasperated, and continued to explain.
"She’s been out of the fashion design industry for two years. Now, she’s determined to win an award to prove herself."
"If you came, she’d be distracted having to look after you. You wouldn’t want to see her miss out on a major award and end up disappointed and upset, would you?"
Mr. and Mrs. Sutton glanced at each other.
"..."
Somehow, that sounded rather reasonable.
Just as the old couple was about to be convinced by Adrian Sutton’s excuse,
Silas Rowan chose this moment to chime in.
"Grandfather, Grandmother, don’t let him fool you."
"He’s just worried you’ll expose his fraudulent marriage. He’s afraid you’ll slip up and reveal all his secrets."
As soon as he said that, a sharp glint flashed in Adrian Sutton’s eyes as he looked at Silas Rowan.
The corner of his mouth curved slightly, the arc of his smile carrying a hint of danger.
Silas Rowan instantly felt a bone-deep chill wash over him.
’Crap!’
He had a very, very bad feeling about this.
Hearing that their own grandson looked down on them and didn’t trust them, the two Sutton elders were furious.
They were about to lash out at Adrian Sutton, but he beat them to it, smiling placatingly.
"Grandfather, Grandmother, I was wrong. I apologize."
"After the family introduction banquet, I’ll bring Claire back to see you."
Mr. Sutton looked skeptical. "Really?"
Adrian Sutton nodded firmly. "Of course, it’s true."
"If you try to fool us again, I’ll spill all your secrets," Mrs. Sutton threatened.
"Alright, alright. I’ll keep my word this time."
After saying this, Adrian Sutton let out a sigh of relief, then couldn’t help but remark,
"Well, my mission is accomplished. What about you, Silas Rowan?"
He looked at Silas Rowan beside him, a smirk playing on his lips.
"Grandfather and Grandmother are also exceptionally worried about your marriage prospects."
"As their biological grandson, are you really going to let them worry about you at their age?"
"It’s certainly rare for someone your age to have never been in a relationship."
"We family members, of course, know that you’re just serious about relationships and have high standards."
"But anyone who didn’t know you might just wonder if there’s an issue with your sexual orientation."
"Speaking of which, I think I saw you acting a little too intimately with a man the other day..."
"You don’t actually..." Adrian Sutton trailed off, looking at Silas Rowan with that same smirk.
Hearing this, Silas Rowan’s face darkened.
Before he could refute it, Mrs. Sutton gasped.
"What?"
After hearing Adrian Sutton’s words, Mr. Sutton also turned to stare at Silas Rowan in utter disbelief.
"You were acting intimately with a man?"
Silas Rowan scrambled to explain. "No, Grandfather..."
He couldn’t recall ever acting intimately with any man.
Most of the people he interacted with in his daily life and at work were male staff members.
But their interactions were purely professional. There was absolutely nothing intimate about them.
’This cousin of mine is truly vindictive.’
He had only made one casual remark about him.
And his retaliation was this swift, cruel, and precise.
Now he was starting to suspect that his grandparents’ doubts about him liking men...
...had come from some nonsense they heard from this "dear" cousin of his.
"I don’t believe Adrian would just make things up."
"As they say, there’s no smoke without fire. You’d better give us a clear explanation."
Interrogated by the two elders,
Silas Rowan explained earnestly for a long time.
He talked until he was blue in the face, but the old couple remained half-convinced.
They were terrified that his sexual orientation was truly an issue, and that the Rowan Family would have no heir in the future.
Seeing this, Adrian Sutton finally smiled in satisfaction.
’He dared to stir up trouble for me without thinking of the consequences.’
He deliberately picked up a cup of tea from the table and took a slow, leisurely sip.
Then, he seemingly began to advise Silas Rowan with great earnestness.
"Sigh, Grandfather, Grandmother, and your parents have worried themselves sick over your future marriage."
"If you really don’t want them to keep worrying about your marriage, I suggest you find a partner soon."
"As long as you find someone, I’m sure they’ll stop focusing on you."
"On one condition, of course. Don’t find a man..."
At these words, the Sutton elders instantly fixed their gazes back on Silas Rowan.
Silas Rowan listened as Adrian, with his words full of passive-aggressive innuendo, led their grandparents to misunderstand that he was gay...
His chest ached with anger.
"Adrian Sutton..."
He gritted his teeth, glaring at the brightly smiling Adrian Sutton.
Unable to bear it any longer, he finally snarled a threat.
"Don’t you forget, we still have dirt on you."
Adrian Sutton wasn’t flustered. He immediately turned to his strongest backer.
"Grandfather, did you hear that?"
"I kindly advised him to find a partner, and he actually threatened me."
"I admit I’ve hidden things from Claire, but that was only so I could marry her sooner."
"I did it because I know you’ve always hoped I would get married and have children quickly."
"To fulfill your wishes, I had no choice but to hide my true situation from her. I was forced to do it."
"But did you two hear what Silas Rowan just said?"
"He can’t find a partner himself, so now he wants to ruin my marriage with Claire..."
"He’d dare." Before Mr. Sutton could speak, Mrs. Sutton shot Silas Rowan a look.
"Silas Rowan, if you dare ruin Adrian and Claire’s marriage, I’ll be the first one to come after you."
Mr. Sutton looked utterly heartbroken.
"Just because you can’t find a partner, you think of ruining someone else’s marriage."
"Silas Rowan... is this how the Rowan Family raised you?"
Facing the barrage of accusations from the two elders, Silas Rowan was speechless with grievance.
He immediately put on a placating smile and apologized.
"Grandfather, Grandmother, I was wrong."p>"I was just joking with my cousin."
"He’s had a secret crush on her for ten whole years."
"It wasn’t easy for him to finally trick... I mean, marry her and bring her home."
"As his younger cousin, how could I possibly ruin the marriage he worked so hard to build?"
Silas Rowan’s words sounded like an apology.
But in reality, they were dripping with passive-aggressive sarcasm.
