After Having a Dream, I Became Pregnant with a Billionaire's Child-Chapter 116 - 113: Who is More Important, Face or Wife?
Chapter 116: Chapter 113: Who is More Important, Face or Wife?
Emily Parker unknowingly fell asleep, unaware that she had even arrived at the villa.
Her sleep was restless, really.
Perhaps she was angered by Aunt Parker’s ordeal.
She dreamt about her mother’s death.
Her mother had committed suicide.
By the time she rushed back from the school in town, her mother was already on her last breath.
She hurriedly sought help from a neighbor to call for an ambulance.
But they lived in a small village; it took an hour for the ambulance from town to arrive.
Her mother passed away before the ambulance could get there.
The specifics of the incident were blurry in Emily’s memory; all she could remember were her mother’s last words of advice—the other details had slipped away.
After studying medicine, she had looked into this matter, and it turns out it might have been due to severe trauma that she experienced intermittent memory loss.
The only thing she could clearly remember was her mother’s final admonition,
"Little Emily, promise Mom, live life as an ordinary person, and hide all those skills I’ve passed on to you."
"Mom, why did you have to kill yourself?"
At the time, Emily nodded vigorously, clung to her mother’s hand, and repeatedly asked that same question.
Her mother had never been a weak person.
If she hadn’t witnessed it herself, Emily would never have wanted to believe that her mother would commit suicide and leave her behind.
Until her mother’s body had turned cold, she never gave Emily the answer.
"Live as an ordinary person..."
Emily abruptly woke up from her sleep.
When she awoke, she found herself back in the villa’s bed.
The sunlight filtered through the floor-to-ceiling windows and bathed her in warmth.
It must have been Carlos who carried her upstairs.
Remembering what she had said to Carlos in the car earlier, Emily couldn’t help but give a wry smile.
Emily hadn’t anticipated that she would end up telling Carlos all those thoughts deep in her heart.
Why tell Carlos?
Perhaps because besides him, there was no one else she could talk to.
She hadn’t even spoken of these things about her mother to Evelyn Hanson.
Over the years, she had always wanted to understand the reasons behind her mother’s suicide, but she had no clues.
The only clue was the phone call her mother made to Father Parker before her suicide, so she always felt that Father Parker knew the truth.
But over the years, Father Parker never revealed the specifics to Emily. She had asked a few times and had even been scolded by him.
This made Emily even more convinced of her previous suspicion; there was another reason for her mother’s death.
Thinking of Father Parker’s behavior today, Emily sneered in her heart, it seemed unlikely that Father Parker would easily tell her the truth.
She would have to find a way to make Father Parker speak.
Emily thought for a while, took out her old laptop, organized some files, and then sent them off to the disciplinary committee using an anonymous email.
She had just sent the email when her phone rang.
She looked at her phone, and it was a message from Old Master.
Carlos: Hey.
Blue Sky: What, you had another fight with your wife?
Carlos: Women are really troublesome.
Blue Sky: That’s because you don’t understand women well enough.
Carlos: As if you’re some expert on women.
Blue Sky: Of course.
Carlos: I have a friend who was kicked out by his wife. It’s been so long, and his wife hasn’t asked him to come back. He’s really troubled about it.
Blue Sky: Is that so? If she doesn’t ask, can’t he just roll back on his own?
Carlos: That would be too embarrassing.
Blue Sky: So, is he without a wife, or without face? Understand?
Carlos: I get it!
Seeing the Old Master’s reply, Emily Parker couldn’t help but snicker.
This Old Master was much more straightforward than his grandson, that boy Carlos.
After Emily knew about the Old Master’s identity, she tentatively asked Carlos about his grandmother.
Carlos didn’t say much about Old Lady Carter, only that he was very familiar with the fact that his grandparents didn’t have a good relationship as long as he could remember.
During the period that the Old Master was hospitalized, Emily indeed never saw Old Lady Carter visit.
It was said that the couple had been living apart for many years, and even Carlos and Mrs. Carter didn’t see Old Lady Carter very often.
Thinking of Carlos, Emily suddenly remembered that she and Carlos had been sleeping in separate rooms for several days. Aside from the first night when he banged on the door, Carlos hadn’t made any move in the following days.
Emily suspected that maybe during the year of their contracted marriage, they would maintain this separation.
The bedroom door opened, and Emily hurriedly put away her computer, only to see Carlos walking in with his pajamas and toiletries.
Emily was taken aback.
Carlos clearly hadn’t expected Emily to be awake; he had planned to move back in secretly.
The two made eye contact, and a suspicious blush appeared on Carlos’s handsome face.
He cleared his throat and said with a frown,
"The air conditioner in the study is broken; I couldn’t sleep well."
With that, he casually moved his pajamas and toiletries in.
Of course, the air conditioner in the study wasn’t broken; it was Carlos himself who was broken.
Carlos had slept in the study for a few days and had insomnia for just as long.
He even tried using sleeping pills to no avail.
It wasn’t until today, when he picked up Emily to go upstairs, that he realized he couldn’t sleep because he missed the scent of Emily.
That night, the two of them slept together
Neither mentioned the previous discontent, and although nothing was said, their relationship seemed to grow closer.
The next morning.
Carlos, who had finally had a good night’s sleep, was in a good mood. When he went downstairs for breakfast, he smelled the long-missed aroma of breakfast.
Carlos took a deep breath, his lips curving up slightly.
During breakfast, Carlos coughed lightly,
"The driver took the day off today; I happen to be going to work, I’ll drive you to the clinic."
Emily didn’t refuse; the clinic was a bit far from the villa, and she preferred not to take the bus now that she was pregnant.
Carlos drove Emily to the clinic.
When they were near the entrance of City First Middle School, Emily got off the car. After Carlos drove away, she was about to cross the street towards the clinic.
Suddenly, she heard a sneer from behind.
"I thought you really liked my brother, turns out you only ditch the poor for the rich, hooking up with someone else so quickly."
Emily turned around, and there stood Amelia Willow behind her.
Coincidentally, Amelia had just witnessed Emily getting out of a luxury car.
Lately, Amelia had been riding to school in a Mercedes from the Pond Family, but their Mercedes paled in comparison to the car that Emily had just stepped out of.
Amelia remembered seeing that luxury car online; it was said to be worth tens of millions.
No wonder Emily suddenly quit her job and started a clinic; she must have found a rich man. Emily didn’t want to bother with Amelia and was about to cross the street to the clinic on the opposite side when suddenly, there was an exclamation from the students ahead.
An old person had fainted and was lying by the side of the road.
