After Prison I Rushed into Marriage with a Comatose Tycoon-Chapter 137: So Green It’s a Prairie
Nocturne Nightclub.
Eliza Sutton had just stepped out of the car when a flamboyantly dressed Woody strode over.
"Isla, you’re finally here! I was starting to think the flowers would wilt before you showed up."
"Oh, did I inconvenience you?"
"Not at all, not at all." Woody saw Eva Monroe get out of the car after her. "And this is?"
"Eva Monroe, my bestie."
"So you’re the famous Miss Monroe." Woody’s face lit up with delight as he shook Eva Monroe’s hand. "Miss Monroe, I’ve heard so much about you."
"The pleasure’s all mine," Eva Monroe replied, then asked, a little bemused, "Am I that famous now?"
"Of course!" Woody was clearly flattering Eva Monroe.
It was clear that Eva Monroe’s reputation was indeed well-known among them.
Several of them had met Eliza Sutton in prison.
During those difficult days, the food and supplies Eva Monroe brought for Eliza Sutton every week were their only source of comfort.
But Woody wasn’t about to explain all that.
Eva Monroe didn’t think much of it, simply linking arms with Eliza Sutton and following her into the bar.
Walter Ellington happened to be getting out of his car just then, and he spotted Eliza Sutton from a distance.
"Huh, isn’t that Lockwood’s good-luck bride? What’s she doing here instead of sucking up to the old man at home and cementing her position in the family? And she’s hanging out with a punk like Sid Lane, too."
"Master Ellington, what are you looking at?" Erik Irvine stood beside Walter Ellington, craning his neck to see as well.
Walter Ellington glanced at Shane Lockwood, who was approaching in his wheelchair, and said, "I just saw Eliza Sutton. She went inside with Sid Lane just now."
Erik Irvine was quite surprised. "How would the Mistress know someone like Sid Lane?"
Walter Ellington shrugged. "You’d have to ask Eliza Sutton herself."
As he spoke, Walter Ellington’s gaze was fixed on Shane Lockwood’s face, trying not to miss a single reaction.
Shane Lockwood’s gaze drifted over casually. "Has Reese arrived?"
"Huh?" Walter Ellington was incredulous. "You have the nerve to ask about Reese right now?"
"Should I be gossiping like you instead?" Shane Lockwood scoffed, steering his wheelchair toward Nocturne Bar.
Erik Irvine immediately followed.
Walter Ellington was stunned. "Did you not hear what I just said? I’m telling you, Eliza Sutton is mixed up with Sid Lane! That kid is bad news—a real scheming bastard. It’s only a matter of time before he fools her. Before you know it, Lockwood, you’ll be cuckolded so badly your head will look like a national park! Hey, wait for me!"
Walter Ellington hurried after them.
Inside the private room.
Woody pushed the door open and announced loudly, "Everyone, look who’s here!"
The people in the room looked over.
Upon seeing Eliza Sutton, their eyes lit up, and they all chorused, "Boss."
Eliza Sutton nodded. "Carry on, everyone."
The room quickly returned to its lively state.
Eva Monroe couldn’t help but say, "Isla Sutton, you seem different from before."
The Eliza Sutton of today had an imposing air that she didn’t remember.
Eliza Sutton smiled. "Whether I’m different or not, you’ll always be my bestie."
"True." Eva Monroe instantly felt reassured.
’No matter how much Eliza changes, she’s still my best friend.’
’Besides, after everything she’s been through, if she didn’t change, she’d just be waiting to get schemed to death.’
Woody came over again. "Isla, I had them arrange for a few fresh, handsome young men for you."
Woody clapped his hands, and a line of young men walked out. There were about ten of them, and they formed a line in front of Eliza Sutton, ready for her to choose.
Eva Monroe grabbed Eliza Sutton’s arm, her eyes practically popping out of her head.
It was just that these ten-odd guys were all incredibly good-looking. There was the gentle and refined type, the wild type, the tough-guy type, the cool and dominant "wolf pup" type, the cute and clingy "milk pup" type, and even the innocent upperclassman type.
In short, this lineup was a woman’s dream come true.
Woody said, "Isla, just pick whichever one you like, and he’ll be yours for the night."
Eliza Sutton glanced at them. The boys in front of her were indeed handsome, but just handsome. They couldn’t hold a candle to Shane Lockwood.
Suddenly, an image of Shane Lockwood’s face surfaced in her mind.
Her long-dormant heart felt a sudden flutter, as if something had just tickled it.
Eliza Sutton had to admit it: she was just an ordinary woman.
Like every other woman in the world, she liked men who were handsome, had a great body, and a good disposition.
Shane Lockwood was the gold standard. As long as she wasn’t blind, her heart was bound to be moved.
Woody said, "Isla, if you don’t like any of these, we can just forget it."
’I’ll just have the madam send over another batch.’
Eva Monroe couldn’t read minds. Hearing that they were just going to "forget it," she was stunned and immediately interjected, "How can we just forget it? My Isla Sutton isn’t choosing because she likes all of them!"
Woody was skeptical. "All... all of them?"
"Yeah, each of these young men has his own unique charm. Is it so strange that she’d like them all?" Eva Monroe glanced at Woody.
Her expression screamed, ’Don’t be so provincial.’
Woody: "..."
’Guess I am being a little provincial,’ he thought.
Eva Monroe waved a grand hand. "All of you, come on over."
Hearing this, the young men immediately came over, scrambling to sit next to Eliza Sutton and Eva Monroe.
Even Woody was pushed aside.
Although they were all in the service industry, who would want to serve middle-aged women when they could be serving beautiful young ladies?
"Miss, have a drink."
"Miss, I peeled these grapes for you."
"Miss, are you tired? Let me give you a shoulder rub."
"Miss, let me massage your legs..."
YAP, YAP.
They say women are supposed to be the chatty ones, but men are clearly no different.
The incessant chattering was giving her a headache.
"All of you, shut up!" Eliza Sutton couldn’t help but snap.
The men immediately fell silent, looking at Eliza Sutton with tear-filled eyes, like delicate little flowers unable to fend for themselves.
Facing this group of professionals at playing pitiful, Eliza Sutton instantly felt she had made a huge mistake.
"I... I just didn’t want you all to work so hard."
"It’s no trouble at all. I’m just happy to have met you, miss."
"If I can help you relax, miss, then my life today has not been in vain."
"Miss..."
She had to hand it to them. This group of men wasn’t just professional at playing pitiful; their sweet-talking skills were off the charts.
Even if Eliza Sutton had a heart of stone, she couldn’t remain completely unmoved.
’After all, what did they do wrong?’
’They were just trying to please me.’
Eliza Sutton shot Eva Monroe a look, her eyes screaming, ’Bestie, help me! Get these guys away from me!’
Eva Monroe announced, "My girl here used her brain too much at work today. Give her a head massage. Better yet, have her rest her head on your laps. Like this."
Eva Monroe pulled over one of the young men and laid her head on his lap.
Eliza Sutton: "..."
’Does my bestie even remember I’m a married woman?’
"Miss..."
The tender, affectionate voice made the hairs on the back of Eliza Sutton’s neck stand on end.
