Chapter 139: Chapter 139: Exposed

Shane Lockwood’s eyes narrowed dangerously. He suddenly reached out, wrapped an arm around Eliza Sutton’s waist, and pulled her down onto his lap.

Caught completely off guard, Eliza Sutton froze. "Shane Lockwood, what are you doing?"

"What does it look like? I’m playing the toyboy." Shane Lockwood held her in place, his large palm stroking her back through her clothes.

The heat from his palm was scorching, seeping through the thin fabric like a branding iron, as if it would sear her very skin.

Eliza Sutton’s body went rigid, her back ramrod straight. Her fingers, pressed against Shane Lockwood’s chest, involuntarily curled. "That’s enough. You’ve been very professional, Mr. Lockwood."

"That’s all it takes? Your standards are disappointingly low."

"It really is enough," Eliza Sutton said, struggling. "Mr. Lockwood, it wouldn’t be good if someone saw us."

"You’re right. It is rather conspicuous out here on a main road."

Eliza Sutton breathed a sigh of relief. Just as she was about to stand up, Shane Lockwood’s arm tightened, and the wheelchair beneath her began to move.

"Shane Lockwood?" Eliza Sutton’s voice rose in alarm.

Shane Lockwood said, "Keep your voice down. There aren’t many people out at night, but there are still some. If someone takes a picture and posts it online, you’ll be famous."

Eliza Sutton was speechless.

In the moment Eliza Sutton hesitated, Shane Lockwood had already steered the wheelchair into a hotel next to them.

"A room, please."

"Why are we getting a room? Shane Lockwood, what on earth are you doing?"

"My dear, I know you’re in a hurry, but no matter how desperate you are, it’s much safer in a hotel. It’s far too inconvenient outside."

In that moment, even without turning her head, Eliza Sutton could feel the gossiping stares fixed on her, all eager to see what would happen next.

"No, that’s not... you..."

Eliza Sutton desperately wanted to explain, but Shane Lockwood gave her no such opportunity.

He took the key card and steered her away from the front desk.

「Inside the hotel room.」

The moment the door closed, Eliza Sutton leaped out of Shane Lockwood’s lap.

She backed away several steps, putting distance between herself and Shane Lockwood.

Eliza Sutton frowned, her expression thoroughly displeased. "Shane Lockwood, what is it you really want?"

"I want you to take a shower." Shane Lockwood frowned, his face a mask of disgust. "Eliza Sutton, don’t tell me you were planning to go home reeking of another man’s cologne and let Emmett smell it."

Eliza Sutton instinctively lifted the fabric of her shirt to her nose and sniffed. The scent was indeed a little strong.

If Emmett Lockwood smelled this, the little guy would surely be very upset.

Eliza Sutton glanced at Shane Lockwood, still finding it hard to believe. "You dragged me all the way here just so I could take a shower and wash off this scent?"

"Or what?" A mocking smile played on Shane Lockwood’s lips. "Did you think I was going to force myself on you?" He let out a derisive laugh. "Do you think I need to? Of course, if you’re the one with needs, I suppose I could oblige."

As he spoke, Shane Lockwood braced his arms on the wheelchair and stood up.

Then, taking somewhat stiff steps, he walked toward Eliza Sutton.

As he drew closer, his expression grew more intimidating.

Eliza Sutton jumped in fright.

In the end, she lost her nerve.

"I... I’ll go take a shower now."

With that, she darted into the bathroom, slamming the door shut with a BANG.

She clutched her chest, gasping for breath.

’Aren’t all those powerful, dominant CEOs supposed to be cold and aloof? Why is Shane Lockwood changing so much?’

’Whatever. I’ll just have to stay out of his way from now on.’

’Things will be better once we’re divorced.’

In the room, Shane Lockwood stared at the firmly closed door, a smile suddenly breaking across his previously expressionless face.

’Eliza Sutton, no matter how good your act is, you’ve finally slipped up.’

’Any normal person would have been shocked to see me suddenly stand up.’

’Unless, of course, Eliza Sutton already knew I was healed.’

After her shower, Eliza Sutton changed her clothes and prepared to leave.

Shane Lockwood looked at Eliza Sutton. "Where are you off to now?"

"Nocturne. Eve is still there."

"There’s no need. I’ve already asked Walter Ellington to look after your friend. He’ll make sure Eva Monroe gets home safely."

「Nocturne Entertainment Club.」

"...Alright, don’t worry. I’m a grown woman. You and President Lockwood go on home."

After hanging up, Eva Monroe came out of the restroom and walked right into someone, a full-body collision.

"I’m sorry—" Just as Eva Monroe began to apologize, a familiar voice sounded from above her.

"Eva Monroe. I knew you couldn’t bear to be without me."

It was Roy Jennings.

The man Eva Monroe had dated for three years.

Not long ago, this jerk had won the heart of their boss’s daughter and promptly dumped her.

Roy Jennings stared greedily at Eva Monroe’s vibrant, beautiful face. "Eva Monroe, I’m a man of my word. Even though you have no money or power, I do still have feelings for you. As long as you’re obedient, I’ll allow you to stay by my side."

Eva Monroe’s face fell. "What happened? Has the mental hospital gotten that careless? How did they let you out!"

Roy Jennings was not pleased. "Eva Monroe, watch your tone. I’m only giving you this chance to climb the social ladder because of our past. I’m trying to be generous, so don’t be shameless."

"Oh, I’m so grateful to you and your entire family, but no thanks." Eva Monroe rolled her eyes and turned to leave.

Roy Jennings couldn’t believe Eva Monroe had rejected him again.

Roy Jennings snapped.

He grabbed Eva Monroe’s wrist. "Eva Monroe, it’s one thing for a girl to be modest, but it’s just annoying when you play this hard to get."

Staring at Eva Monroe’s stunning face, Roy Jennings felt a surge of lust and could no longer hold back. He leaned in to kiss her.

’All women are bitches. You just have to fuck them into submission.’

’He’d been way too serious with Eva Monroe in the past!’

Eva Monroe slapped Roy Jennings hard across the face. "Get the hell off me!"

The slap left Roy Jennings stunned for a moment.

Soon, the stinging pain on his cheek brought Roy Jennings back to his senses.

"You bitch, you dare hit me? Give you an inch and you take a mile, huh? See if I don’t teach you a lesson!" Enraged, Roy Jennings raised his hand to strike Eva Monroe.

Eva Monroe stumbled back two steps and shrieked, "Fire! Fire!"

"Fire? Where’s the fire?"

Hearing her cries, people came rushing out from all directions, their faces etched with panic.

Eva Monroe immediately rushed over and grabbed the man closest to her. "Sir, look! That man is hitting someone! He’s hitting a woman! He’s the scum of the earth! Don’t you agree?"

Walter Ellington looked down at Eva Monroe, who was tugging on his sleeve, a flicker of surprise in his eyes.

’It’s her.’

’The woman Lockwood asked me to look after.’

"He is."

Hearing Walter Ellington’s affirmation, Eva Monroe grew even more spirited. "Roy Jennings, did you hear that? A man who hits a woman is worse than an animal!"

Roy Jennings fumed, "Eva Monroe, you hit me first! Can’t you see the mark on my face?"

Eva Monroe retorted, "That’s only because you saw I was alone, saw how beautiful I am, and decided to try something! If you don’t believe it, let’s check the surveillance footage!"

All eyes turned to Roy Jennings.

Roy Jennings’s expression turned ugly. He gritted his teeth and said, "Eva Monroe, you just wait!"

After saying his piece, he stormed off in a huff.
