Chapter 158: Chapter 158: The Homeless Dog Is Back Again

Eliza Sutton watched Shane Lockwood with a worried expression, afraid he wouldn’t be able to control himself.

Sure enough, in the next moment, Eliza caught a flash of malice in Shane’s expression.

He looked like an enraged beast, ready to tear out his enemy’s throat at a moment’s notice.

Eliza kept her eyes fixed on Shane.

If Shane tried to make a move, she would stop him without hesitation.

It wasn’t because she felt any pity for those two scoundrels.

It was because Master Lockwood was right there with them.

Since he had allowed Lord Lockwood and Fabian to enter the family home and even be in his presence, it was clear his heart had softened.

After all, they were his son and grandson, and the Lockwood family line had always been small. It was only natural that Master Lockwood couldn’t bear to cast them out completely.

If Shane made a move, there would inevitably be consequences. If he accidentally hurt Master Lockwood in the process, he’d be in a mess he couldn’t talk his way out of.

But in the end, Eliza had still underestimated Shane.

The anger in his expression was fleeting, brought under control almost as soon as it appeared.

Shane smiled. "Uncle, it seems you’ve had a rough time. You’ve put on quite a bit of weight in just a few days."

The moment Shane spoke, all eyes instinctively turned to Lord Lockwood.

And now that they looked, he really had put on some weight.

Although Lord Lockwood had struggled after being cast out, he had moved past the initial uncertainty of living hand-to-mouth. Once he found a job, his life had more or less stabilized.

He had likely been starved half to death for the first few days, so he gorged himself at every meal. That, combined with a diet of greasy, salty food, was a surefire way to pack on the pounds.

Lord Lockwood’s smile faltered. The corner of his mouth twitched as he said awkwardly, "Shane, always the kidder. I came back today to give Dad some good news. The Lockwood family has another grandson, and I hear he looks identical to Emmett. Did you bring the boy with you? Master Lockwood has been looking forward to meeting him."

Just as he’d said, Master Lockwood looked at Shane expectantly. "Shane, where is the child?"

The matter of the Lockwood family’s heirs had always been Master Lockwood’s greatest source of anxiety.

For such a vast family, the fourth generation consisted of only a single child: Emmett.

This was especially true after Doctor Shepherd had diagnosed Shane and said he would have difficulty fathering any children.

For a traditional old man like Master Lockwood, who believed a large family was the greatest blessing, this news had been devastatingly cruel.

Now, to hear there was another child—a twin to Emmett, no less—filled him with indescribable anticipation.

Shane said, "The boy didn’t come with me. He’s not feeling well. He took some medicine and is asleep now. If you’d like to see him, Grandpa, I can have Mrs. Zimmerman bring him over."

Master Lockwood immediately waved his hand. "No, no. If the boy isn’t well, let him rest. There’s no rush to see him until he’s feeling better. We’ll arrange a paternity test then, so we can add him to the family records."

Shane agreed. "Don’t worry, Grandpa. I’ll arrange everything."

"That’s good."

Master Lockwood then asked a few more questions about the boy.

Shane gave some vague answers.

"Alright, you two can go. I’ll have your uncle keep me company a while longer. Once he leaves this time, he won’t be allowed to return."

Shane smiled and said, "Of course. Then I’ll have to trouble you to keep Grandpa company, Uncle."

Eliza pushed Shane’s wheelchair, and they left the main house.

They had just passed through the courtyard gate when Fabian called out to stop them.

Fabian walked up to Shane, a smug look plastered on his face. "I bet you didn’t see this coming, did you, Cousin? We’re back."

"Am I supposed to congratulate you? The strays have come slinking back." Shane’s voice was light, yet laced with an unmistakable mockery.
