After Prison I Rushed into Marriage with a Comatose Tycoon-Chapter 66: Quick, Tell Me the Details
Eliza Sutton wasn’t at all surprised to see Shane Lockwood in a wheelchair with Erik Irvine pushing him.
Erik Irvine looked at Eliza Sutton with pity. His gaze seemed to spell out two words loud and clear: My Sympathies.
Eliza Sutton: "..."
’Did it have to be such a coincidence?’
’Of course. It had to be just this coincidental.’
’According to the rules of the domineering CEO trope, the male lead always shows up out of nowhere, overhears a few words out of context, lets the misunderstanding escalate, and kicks off a whole angsty, dramatic romance.’
’The only difference was, she had a mouth.’
And so, Eliza Sutton immediately said, "This is all a misunderstanding. Master Willow was just kidding."
Ivan Willow: "He’s not kidding! My grandpa is serious... OWW!"
Ivan Willow didn’t get to finish his sentence.
Master Willow had stomped on his grandson’s foot, making him howl.
Master Willow put on a kind smile and said, "Shane, are you here on business?"
"Yes." The reply was cold and detached—the very definition of terse.
Master Willow didn’t mind. He said with a cheerful smile, "That’s my fault. I should have asked. If I’d known you were here, I would have had Eliza invite you to join us."
"You’re too kind, Master Willow."
"Not at all, not at all. It’s really fate, isn’t it? I never imagined the person who saved my life would turn out to be your wife. Excellent! This is just excellent! I must host a grand banquet some other day to thank Eliza for saving me. Shane, you have to come with Eliza when I do."
"Of course."
Master Willow exchanged a few more pleasantries, then left with Ivan Willow and the butler.
「In the car.」
Master Willow let out a long sigh, his face full of regret.
Ivan Willow bounced his leg and asked, "Grandpa, what’s wrong? Why are you sighing?"
"Why do you think I’m sighing? I’m sighing because you have no luck! A wonderful girl like Eliza, and now she can never be my granddaughter-in-law. The Willow Family just isn’t blessed enough."
"What do you mean, ’never’? Weren’t you just calling her ’granddaughter-in-law’ so affectionately a moment ago?"
"That’s because I didn’t know Eliza’s husband was Shane Lockwood!" Master Willow recalled Shane Lockwood’s heart-stopping aura, present even while he was in a wheelchair. Then he looked at his own good-for-nothing grandson, and a wave of fury washed over him. He lifted his cane and whacked Ivan Willow a few times, making the younger man howl.
Ivan Willow: "Grandpa, what’d you hit me for? Didn’t you say it yourself? It doesn’t matter that she’s married. I’ll just steal her away."
Ivan’s cheeks grew warm as he pictured Eliza Sutton’s face—so beautiful and yet so cool and capable. "You said it yourself, I’ve got the looks," he said. "And I’m a warm person! It wouldn’t be hard for me to be the cute, devoted type. Can Shane Lockwood do that?"
Eliza Sutton, oblivious to the fact that Ivan Willow was already gearing up for the chase, was looking for an excuse to escape. "Mr. Lockwood, I’ll leave you to your business. I’m just going to use the restroom."
Shane Lockwood’s tone was frigid. "Since when did you think the old ’I need to use the restroom’ excuse could fool me? Get over here and push my wheelchair."
Eliza Sutton had no choice but to walk over and take Erik Irvine’s place.
"Where to, Mr. Lockwood?"
"Home."
Eliza was a little surprised. "Mr. Lockwood, don’t you need to get back to your business?"
Shane Lockwood let out a cold laugh. "Did you really think that if I got drunk at my meeting, I would just forget about what happened tonight?"
Eliza: "...You’re reading too much into it." 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
’Is the trust between people really this fragile?’
Eliza Sutton took a deep breath. "Then I’ll take you home."
Shane Lockwood said nothing, letting Eliza Sutton push him.
After Erik Irvine helped her settle Shane Lockwood into the car, he got into the front passenger seat. With a great deal of tact, he raised the privacy partition, proving he knew how to read a room.
Eliza Sutton could only brace herself and sit down next to Shane Lockwood.
Shane Lockwood said nothing. Instead, he took out some documents and began to look through them, clearly intending to ignore her.
Eliza, taking the hint, was careful not to disturb him.
Eliza Sutton turned to look out the window.
The dark window reflected Shane Lockwood’s profile, and her thoughts inevitably turned to her two children.
Perhaps it was because she missed Leo and Theo so much, but she suddenly felt that Shane Lockwood bore a slight resemblance to the two children in the photo.
Suddenly, the car slammed on its brakes. Eliza, lost in thought, was caught completely off guard. Inertia sent her flying forward, and she tumbled right into Shane Lockwood’s arms.
Dizzy from the jolt, Eliza instinctively grabbed onto Shane Lockwood’s shirt, tearing the buttons and revealing his toned chest.
The man’s scent enveloped her. It was a crisp, pleasant aroma, and Eliza found herself instinctively taking a deep breath.
The driver’s terrified voice came from the front: "S-sorry! A little girl suddenly ran out into the road..."
"Drive more carefully."
The driver breathed a sigh of relief and quickly gave his assurance.
Shane Lockwood looked down at Eliza. "Aren’t you getting up?"
"I’m sorry." Eliza quickly sat up. Noticing the lipstick stain she’d left on Shane Lockwood’s shirt, she added apologetically, "I’m so sorry. It was an accident."
Shane Lockwood was merciless. "A disingenuous apology is meaningless."
"Oh." Eliza understood. ’Fine, then I won’t apologize.’
「Half an hour later.」
The car stopped at the entrance of Green Bamboo Garden at the Lockwood Estate.
Mrs. Lockwood was waiting in the living room.
Seeing them enter, she immediately broke into a smile. "Eliza, Shane, you’re back."
Eliza Sutton nodded and said apologetically, "Mom, I’m sorry you had to stay with Emmett tonight."
"What’s there to be sorry about? Emmett is my grandson; it’s only natural for me to be with him." As Mrs. Lockwood spoke, her gaze fell on Shane Lockwood’s chest.
When she saw the lipstick print on Shane’s chest and the smudged lipstick on Eliza’s lips, her smile took on a knowing look.
"It’s late. You two should go on up and rest." With that, she grabbed her handbag and headed for the door, calling over her shoulder to Erik, "You’ve had a long day, too. Go on home and rest."
Mrs. Lockwood then grabbed Erik by the arm and pulled him out the door. Eliza overheard her ask in a gossipy whisper, "So, what happened between Shane and Eliza? Quick, give me all the details!"
Eliza Sutton: "..."
Eliza Sutton took a deep breath, turned to Shane Lockwood, and said awkwardly, "Mom misunderstood. I’ll explain to her tomorrow and tell her it was just an accident."
Shane Lockwood didn’t say anything.
Eliza Sutton didn’t mind. "Let me push you back to your room so you can wash up."
With that, Eliza Sutton pushed Shane Lockwood into the bedroom’s bathroom and helped him wash up.
After helping Shane Lockwood finish washing up, she helped him back into bed.
"You get some rest. I’m going to go wash up," Eliza Sutton said, about to turn away.
But then, a hand clamped around her wrist.
Eliza turned back, confused. Just as she opened her mouth to speak, a powerful force yanked her down onto the bed.
