After Prison I Rushed into Marriage with a Comatose Tycoon-Chapter 75: Mom Is a Poor Little Thing
Eliza Sutton felt her scalp prickle.
This was the first time they had met since she brought up divorce that night.
Eliza was a little worried Shane Lockwood would give her a hard time.
She knew full well that no matter how she tried to justify it, her bringing up divorce had made Shane Lockwood lose face.
Men, especially the overbearing CEO type, always had huge egos and were finicky. He was definitely pissed that his good-luck-charm bride was the one to ask for a divorce.
Soon, Eliza realized she was overthinking things. She didn’t even get a chance to speak with Shane.
Although Shane Lockwood was now crippled and had been declared "incapable" by Doctor Shepherd, his mind was as sharp as ever. As the CEO of The Lockwood Group and the current Head of the Lockwood Family, he was immensely powerful and influential—an object of admiration for countless people. The moment he appeared, members of the Lockwood family swarmed around him.
Eliza let out a long sigh of relief.
Just then, Emmett was also called away by the old man. With no one paying her any mind, Eliza found a corner to sit down in.
She had been burning the candle at both ends for the past two days, and the sudden moment of relaxation made her drowsy.
"Dad, you’ve gone too far!"
Shane had just sent his relatives away and had only enjoyed a few seconds of peace when he heard an angry voice from behind him.
Shane turned around to see Emmett with his small hands on his hips, glaring at him furiously.
Remembering Emmett’s insolence on the phone the other day, he narrowed his eyes and said, "What? You want me to step down again?"
"No!" Emmett quickly shook his head. ’I was wrong before.’
’He didn’t want to work like a plow horse every day like his dad, with no time to even spend with Mommy.’
Emmett sensed something was wrong and immediately said, "I mean, Dad, you’re a grown-up. You can’t keep bringing up things I do when I’m sleepwalking. That’s just immoral."
"Sleepwalking?" Shane Lockwood sneered. "You’re my son. How come I never knew you had this habit of sleepwalking?"
"That’s because you were in a coma, Dad. Of course you wouldn’t know."
Hearing his son mention his coma, Shane Lockwood’s heart, no matter how cold and hard, softened a little.
He ruffled his son’s hair vigorously. "Alright, go on and play."
Emmett was about to leave when he suddenly remembered he had come for a reason.
Emmett said, "Dad, I’m not done talking yet!"
"Speak."
"I wanted to say that you’re terrible! Didn’t you see? How badly Mommy was being bullied?"
"What’s wrong with Eliza Sutton?"
Exasperated, Emmett said, "Haven’t you noticed? They’re giving Mommy the cold shoulder! Why do you think they dare to treat her like that? It’s because you, her husband, don’t care! Dad, this is your fault!"
Shane Lockwood raised an eyebrow.
He had actually known for a while that his son was very attached to Eliza Sutton, even more so than he was to his own biological mother, Vivian Forrest.
’But his son was worrying for nothing. Eliza Sutton didn’t care at all. She was the one who was dead set on turning around and leaving.’
Just then, Emmett suddenly spoke up. "Dad, you don’t know. I’ve been living with Mommy at her friend’s house these past few days. She works during the day, and when she comes back, she immediately starts cleaning the room without stopping, afraid she’ll be disliked. After all that hard work, she cries silently because of you, you heartless man."
Shane Lockwood was very surprised. "You’re saying Eliza Sutton cried? How is that possible?"
"Dad, don’t tell Mommy it was me who told you she cries at night. Mommy’s a girl, she has her pride. She might even deny it." Emmett sighed, his little face full of sorrow.
"Mommy is so pitiful. Her parents don’t dote on her, her husband doesn’t love her, and now she’s been kicked out of the Lockwood family with nowhere to even stay. It’s so sad."

’It felt like, in Emmett’s telling, I was some kind of unpardonable villain.’
"I didn’t make her move out."
’That woman, Eliza, was the one who insisted on moving out herself!’
"Sigh, I won’t say any more. I’m going to go keep Mommy company. I hope I, her son, can give her a new reason to hope."
"..."
’I get the feeling that in my son’s eyes, I’m a modern-day Reign Spencer.’
The moment Emmett turned around, he couldn’t help but snicker. ’I hope that after a little prodding from me, Dad will seize this opportunity and bring Mommy home soon.’
Emmett sighed. ’It’s so hard being a kid,’ he thought to himself.
’First I was born without a mom, then Dad fell critically ill. Mommy finally came back and Dad was safe, but now they’re fighting with each other.’
’What can I do?’
’I have no choice but to force them together.’
Emmett let out another long sigh, feeling deeply that his life was not an easy one.
’This family would fall apart without me.’
Shane Lockwood hadn’t planned on paying any mind to what his son said.
’Others might not know, but I know perfectly well how sly my son is.’
’The little guy’s favoritism toward Eliza is completely blatant.’
But then he saw Eliza sitting all alone on the sofa, head bowed, looking utterly dejected. At the same time, the information he’d had someone dig up on her surfaced in his mind.
Her mother passed away when she was ten. Less than a month later, her father remarried. His new wife brought two daughters with her—one two years older than Eliza, and one six months younger.
Her daily life had been one hardship after another. The fiancé her mother had arranged for her was stolen away, and she was even assaulted at eighteen. Afterward, she took the fall for Cedric Sutton and served time in prison. Then, after the Sutton Family pocketed a three-hundred-million-dollar bride price, they sent her to marry into the Lockwood family dressed in old clothes.
Suddenly, Shane Lockwood remembered that on the night he woke up, he had told Eliza Sutton he wanted a divorce.
’What did Eliza say?’
’She said no.’
’She said that even if they were to divorce, they had to wait three months.’
Although he didn’t know why Eliza Sutton had suddenly changed her mind and asked for a divorce early, it was also a fact that after leaving Seacliff Manor, she had moved into a friend’s small apartment.
Shane Lockwood had never cared that outsiders called him Yama Lockwood.
In his position, having a compassionate heart would be a disaster for everyone.
His heart had always been as hard as iron.
But, for some unknown reason, his heart softened a little toward Eliza Sutton.
Shane Lockwood took out his phone and called Erik Irvine.
"What project is Harrison Sutton working on recently?"
Erik Irvine didn’t know why Shane Lockwood had suddenly brought up the Sutton Family, but he quickly replied, "The Sutton Group is currently heavily invested in developing that plot of land in the west of the city. A conservative estimate puts their investment at over a billion. The properties there are highly anticipated, and many people are already rubbing their hands together, ready to buy."
"It’s time we developed the land at Mount Sable."
The Mount Sable plot was adjacent to the project The Sutton Group was currently building, but its location was far superior.
"A high-end residential community at Mount Sable? Or a district of villas?"
"Neither," Shane Lockwood said lightly. "Build a martyrs’ cemetery. The martyrs sacrificed their lives for the country; they deserve a plot with good feng shui after death."
"A m-martyrs’ cemetery?" Erik Irvine nearly spat out his drink. "Are you sure?"
"Is there a problem?"
"No problem, no problem at all. I’ll have someone draw up the project proposal right away."
After hanging up, Shane Lockwood let out a breath, finally feeling a bit more satisfied.
No matter how little affection he had for Eliza Sutton, she was still his wife in name. It wasn’t up to any random nobody to bully her!
