Chapter 91: Chapter 91: Mr. Lockwood Isn’t Jealous, Is He?

Emmett Lockwood’s face lit up when he saw Eliza Sutton nod.

He just knew his mom wouldn’t find him a stepfather.

Having his bluff called, Ivan Willow was a bit embarrassed and annoyed. "You little brat, don’t you have any common sense? Even if a man did marry Isla... no, my aunt, he wouldn’t be your stepfather. You’re my aunt’s stepson to begin with. Once she divorces your dad, you two will be strangers. A stepfather? In your dreams."

Emmett Lockwood looked as if he’d been struck by lightning, freezing completely.

"Mom."

Emmett called out, and tears streamed down his face in an instant.

’Even though I always say I was just born from a borrowed belly and that I’m really Mom’s biological son, I know it’s just wishful thinking.’

’If Mom and Dad really get a divorce, it’ll be so hard for me to see her again.’

When Eliza Sutton saw Emmett Lockwood crying, she felt a piercing pain, as if acid had been dropped onto her heart.

"Don’t cry, I’m here," Eliza Sutton said, hugging and comforting Emmett.

When she saw Ivan Willow standing aside and enjoying the show, her expression darkened. "Get over here. Apologize!"

"What did I say that was wrong?" Ivan Willow grumbled, but when he saw Eliza Sutton narrow her eyes—just like that time she was about to hit him—he shivered and immediately walked over.

"Cousin, I’m sorry. I just have a big mouth, so don’t lower yourself to my level." Ivan Willow said with a cheeky grin, "We’re both men. We can’t be all sissy-like."

Emmett Lockwood lifted his small, tear-stained face, his little brow furrowed. "Cousin, it’s not right for you to say that. My mom is amazing, not sissy-like at all. She’ll be unhappy if you describe her that way."

"When did I say that about Isla... my aunt? You little rascal, you’re setting me up." Ivan Willow resisted the urge to teach Emmett a lesson when he saw Eliza Sutton staring at him with a death glare.

"Ivan Willow, do you have a problem with women?"

"No, no. Um, Grandpa asked me to bring you some money today. He said that his daughter’s family recognition banquet absolutely cannot be shabby."

After saying that, he left a bank card and bolted.

Eliza Sutton: "..."

’Do I look that desperate for money? Everyone seems to love shoving bank cards at me.’

"Emmett, could you leave us for a moment?"

Emmett Lockwood still had so much he wanted to say to Eliza Sutton, but seeing Shane Lockwood, he could only leave reluctantly.

Eliza Sutton’s heart ached for him. She stopped Emmett and said, "Mom will take you out to play in a little while."

Emmett Lockwood’s little face lit up instantly, and he walked away happily.

As soon as Emmett left, the atmosphere in the living room became oppressive.

Under Shane Lockwood’s gaze, Eliza Sutton felt particularly uncomfortable. She said stiffly, "Mr. Lockwood, if there’s nothing else, I’ll be leaving now."

With that, she prepared to make a quick exit.

"Stop!" Shane Lockwood called out to her. "Aren’t you going to explain what happened today?"

"What happened?"

"When did you become Master Willow’s goddaughter?"

"Right after the last press conference, when you kicked me out of the car."

"I mean, why would Master Willow want to adopt you as his goddaughter?"

"I saved him when he collapsed on the side of the road. He’s probably doing it to show his gratitude."

"Why didn’t you tell me?"

Eliza Sutton gave Shane Lockwood a baffled look. "Why should I tell you?"

’Even though we can’t openly file for divorce right now, we still agreed we’d get the certificate eventually.’

Although Eliza Sutton didn’t say this out loud, Shane Lockwood understood perfectly.

Logically, there was nothing wrong with her thinking that way.

But for some reason, Shane Lockwood was extremely displeased. He said through gritted teeth, "Eliza Sutton, have you forgotten? As long as we haven’t gotten that divorce certificate, I am your husband!"

"Yes, I remember. Let’s go get it now, then." ’That should stop him from overthinking things,’ she thought.

’I’m being so considerate,’ Eliza Sutton thought. ’Really.’

But Shane Lockwood was not pleased. His face was as black as the bottom of a pot. "You’re something else."

The words seemed to be squeezed from between his teeth.

No matter how emotionally clueless Eliza Sutton was, she wouldn’t mistake this for Shane Lockwood being unable to part with her.

Eliza Sutton hesitated for a moment before asking, "Mr. Lockwood, are you angry? You’re not upset because you’re... jealous, are you? There’s no need. We’re about to get divorced, and even if we weren’t, Ivan Willow is just my nephew."

"You’re overthinking it!" Shane Lockwood took a deep breath and commanded, "Eliza Sutton, I want you to remember that you are currently the Mistress of the Lockwood family. Your every move reflects on us, so you must tell me everything!"

"Alright," Eliza Sutton said. "Are we done here? Can I go now?"

Shane Lockwood waved his hand dismissively. He then watched Eliza Sutton leave with an eagerness that was impossible for him to ignore.

Shane Lockwood took another deep breath, pulled out his phone, and called Erik Irvine. "Investigate the incident where Eliza Sutton saved Master Willow. I want every single detail!"

When Eliza Sutton came out of the living room, Emmett Lockwood was waiting for her in the courtyard.

"Mom, did Dad give you a hard time?" Emmett Lockwood clenched his fists, looking like a little warrior ready to fight for his mother at her command.

"No." Eliza Sutton hesitated for a moment, then crouched in front of Emmett and said earnestly, "Emmett, I know you want to protect me, but I also want you to know that in this world, your father is the person who loves you most. He will protect you and will never, ever hurt you."

Emmett asked, "Will you hurt me, Mom?"

"I won’t. But you have to learn not to believe what I say." ’Because, in the end, I’m not Emmett’s birth mother!’

"No. Mom, I will never not believe you. Because you are my mom," Emmett said, looking at her with his crystal-clear eyes.

Even if Eliza Sutton had a heart of stone, it would have melted at that moment.

Not to mention, she was genuinely fond of the child, Emmett.

Emmett Lockwood asked insistently, "Mom, are you my mom?"

In the end, Eliza Sutton couldn’t bring herself to be cruel. "Yes."

Emmett broke into a smile, looking adorable and happy.

Just as Eliza Sutton was about to say something, Minnie arrived.

Minnie said, "Mistress, your father is here. He’s in the front hall causing a scene and asking for you."

’Harrison Sutton is here?’

Eliza Sutton’s brow furrowed. ’What is he doing here? But it’s not like I can refuse to see him.’

Eliza Sutton had no choice but to say to Emmett, "Emmett, wait for me. I have to go take care of a little trouble."

Emmett asked, "Does Mom need my help?"

"No need."

When Eliza Sutton followed Minnie to the front hall, Harrison Sutton was pacing anxiously like an ant on a hot pan.

Seeing Eliza, he immediately rushed over and grabbed her hand. "Eliza, I finally get to see you! You haven’t come to see your dad in so long. Dad missed you so much!"

Eliza Sutton pulled her hand away and said coolly, "Mr. Sutton, you must have a short memory for a man of your stature. If I recall correctly, you already disowned me. My name has even been removed from the family register."
