After Prison I Rushed into Marriage with a Comatose Tycoon-Chapter 93: Defending Emmett Lockwood
The Lockwood Group.
Erik Irvine said, "...This is the schedule for today. If you have no other questions, President Lockwood, I’ll get back to my work."
"Wait," Shane Lockwood said, stopping Erik Irvine. He tapped his curled fingers on the desktop.
Erik Irvine’s heart tightened. The last time Shane Lockwood had looked this contemplative was when he first took control of the Lockwood Group, only to be schemed against by the second branch of the family.
’I wonder what major issue has come up now,’ he thought.
"I hear the banks have been short on capital lately. It’s probably time to call in some of our loans."
Erik Irvine froze, momentarily confused. Why would Shane Lockwood concern himself with such a minor issue?
Suddenly, a thought flashed through his mind. He immediately bowed and said, "You’re right, President Lockwood. We should pay closer attention to companies that are performing poorly. Otherwise, failing to recover all that money would be a significant loss."
Satisfied, Shane Lockwood nodded slightly. "Go take care of it."
Erik Irvine quickly left, a question rising in his mind: ’Has Shane Lockwood really not fallen for Eliza Sutton?’
’If he hasn’t, why would he notice such a trivial matter?’
Eliza Sutton took Emmett Lockwood to an amusement park.
She bought him balloons, light-up bunny ears, and cotton candy. She also took him on the carousel, the Ferris wheel, the pirate ship, and the bumper cars. They took lots of pictures, and in every single one, Emmett Lockwood’s smile was exceptionally bright.
Finally, she took Emmett Lockwood to the shooting gallery.
As Eliza Sutton was leading Emmett Lockwood over, they happened to run into one of Emmett’s classmates.
The fact that Emmett Lockwood was the Lockwood family’s "Little Prince" was a secret at his kindergarten. No one knew about his formidable background. They all just saw him as a child from a single-parent home with a little bit of money, and they often ostracized him.
And the chubby boy they ran into today was the ringleader.
The chubby boy saw Emmett Lockwood and immediately jeered, "Emmett Lockwood, what are you doing here? A freak whose mom gave birth to him but didn’t want him doesn’t belong here!"
Emmett Lockwood clenched his fists, his face filled with anger. "Who says my mom doesn’t want me! My mom’s already back!"
"She’s back? Did she bring you a stepdad? If she did, you’d better suck up to him. Who knows when your new stepdad will kick you out, and then you’ll just end up on the streets as a beggar!"
"You’re lying! Sean Zimmerman, if you insult my mom again, don’t blame me for what happens next!"
"What happens next? Let’s see you try something!" Sean Zimmerman walked over and went to shove Emmett Lockwood.
Just then, Eliza Sutton returned from buying water. Seeing the situation, she immediately pulled Emmett Lockwood behind her and frowned at the chubby, scowling boy. "Whose child are you? How dare you bully my Emmett!"
"So what if I bully Emmett Lockwood? Even his own mom doesn’t want him. If I don’t bully him, who should I bully?" Sean Zimmerman said with his nose in the air.
Eliza Sutton couldn’t stand to hear it. "Who says Emmett doesn’t have a mother? I’m his mother. Emmett, call me ’Mom’!"
Emmett Lockwood’s eyes sparkled as he looked at Eliza Sutton and shouted with all his might, "Mom!"
"Good boy." Eliza Sutton gently pinched Emmett Lockwood’s cheek.
Sean Zimmerman said disdainfully, "She’s a fake. I bet Emmett Lockwood paid you to be here! Emmett, you’re so sneaky! I can’t believe you’d pull a stunt like this. Tomorrow, I’m telling everyone in our class so they can all laugh at you!"
"You!" Emmett Lockwood’s face flushed red as he glared angrily at Sean Zimmerman. "You’ve gone too far!"
Sean Zimmerman looked triumphant.
Eliza Sutton stopped Emmett before he could say more. "Emmett, just let him spread rumors. It’s nothing but the whining of a sore loser. Just think of it as a dog barking and ignore it!"
"You’re the one barking! Your whole family barks!" Sean Zimmerman suddenly processed her words. "When did I ever lose to you?"
"You’re about to," Eliza Sutton said, glancing at Sean Zimmerman. "You like shooting, right? How about a match with me?"
As she spoke, Eliza Sutton picked up a toy gun and fired. BANG! A balloon popped.
Sean Zimmerman burst out laughing. "The board is full of balloons. Even someone with their eyes closed could hit one. And with skill like that, you want to challenge me?"
"Are you scared?"
"Whoever’s scared is a loser!"
The rules of their match were simple. They would use a toy gun to shoot at the balloons. The first shooter would go until they missed, then it would be the next person’s turn. Once all the balloons on the board were gone, whoever had popped the most would be the winner of that round.
Then, Sean Zimmerman began to regret it.
He competed against Eliza Sutton ten times and didn’t win a single one.
When it was Eliza Sutton’s turn to go first, he didn’t even get a chance to shoot.
Eliza Sutton said, "Kid, I told you you were no match for me!"
Sean Zimmerman’s face turned ugly. He quickly shouted, "You’re a bully! You’re a grown-up competing with a little kid in shooting. It’s not a glorious victory!"
"Then what would be a glorious victory, in your opinion?"
"You have to wear a blindfold and not look!" Sean Zimmerman thought this was a brilliant idea and started clamoring, "That’s right! If you can beat me with a blindfold on, I’ll apologize to Emmett Lockwood. Otherwise, I’ll keep leading the others in bullying him!"
"Fine," Eliza Sutton agreed instantly.
She covered her eyes with a black cloth strip. "You first, or me?"
"I’ll go first." Sean Zimmerman’s performance wasn’t great; he missed after hitting only ten balloons. He was initially frustrated, but his confidence returned when he saw Eliza Sutton’s blindfolded eyes.
"If you lose this time, your son has to bark like a dog."
Eliza Sutton said nothing. She casually raised her hand, and in an instant, all the balloons on an entire board popped.
Emmett Lockwood clapped from the side. "Mom, you’re amazing!"
"What’s there to be proud of? You’re just ahead for now!" Sean Zimmerman clamored, but his face soon turned ashen.
Just like before, the next ten rounds were a total disaster for him. He couldn’t have lost more miserably.
"Apologize!" Eliza Sutton put down the gun, took off her blindfold, and looked at Sean Zimmerman, her demand firm.
"No!" Sean Zimmerman refused. "I won’t apologize! You’re a grown-up bullying a kid! I’m not apologizing!"
"If you don’t apologize, I’ll go to your class and tell everyone that you, Sean Zimmerman, go back on your word and are a dishonest person!"
At this, Sean Zimmerman burst into tears with a loud WAIL. "Mom! I’m being bullied! Waaaah!"
"Who dares to bully my son!" A chubby, bejeweled woman quickly arrived, looking furious. "Was it you who bullied my son?"
Eliza Sutton said, "Your son was insulting my son. He promised to apologize but went back on his word!"
"So what if I don’t keep my promise? What can you do about it?" the boy taunted. "Emmett Lockwood is just a kid nobody wants! Nyeh nyeh nyeh—" He even made a face as he spoke.
Though young, he was utterly detestable.
The chubby woman didn’t think her son was wrong at all. In fact, she fully agreed. "Son, you should curse out little unwanted bastards like him... AAGH!"
A cup of cola was poured over her head, and the chubby woman shrieked.
"How dare you pour a drink on me! Do you have a death wish?" The chubby woman looked murderous, as if she wanted to lunge forward and eat Eliza Sutton alive.
Eliza Sutton tossed the empty cola cup aside and said coldly, "If you have a filthy mouth, you should wash it out properly. You’re welcome."
