After Rebirth, I Married the Great Demon King-Chapter 457: Anger
Yun Shifei could feel their piercing stares, filled with hostility, all directed toward her.
So, she answered honestly, "She escaped."
"Escaped? How did she manage to escape alone?!" The three men present clearly didn’t believe her.
They had dared to leave the two women there because they were certain that, with their limited abilities, there was no way they could escape.
Of course, they thought they would obediently hand over the money.
Who could have predicted that Wen Lin would actually escape?
They had kidnapped two people, but Wen Lin was the main target. This girl was merely a bonus.
Now that their big-ticket hostage had fled... The men’s gaze toward Yun Shifei visibly shifted.
Yun Shifei, on the other hand, began to feel a strange calm.
She knew—fortune or misfortune, there was no avoiding it.
If she made it out, she would definitely settle the score with Wen Lin.
"My boyfriend is very wealthy. You can call him. He’ll send money over," she said.
"Really?"
"Really. My boyfriend’s name is Cheng Lie," Yun Shifei insisted.
"Cheng Lie?"
That name—they had heard of it, at least somewhat. Rumor had it that over the past two years, Cheng Lie had emerged as a powerful figure in Beijing, backed by the Qin Family, with remarkable abilities of his own.
He also had numerous ties to the Wen Family.
Seeing Wen Lin and Yun Shifei together, they began to believe her story.
They took Yun Shifei’s phone and asked her, "What’s his number? I’ll call him."
Yun Shifei recited Cheng Lie’s phone number.
The men dialed it, and after a while, the call connected.
"Feifei."
Hearing the man’s affectionate greeting, Brother Hai grew more certain—this was indeed Yun Shifei’s boyfriend.
"Mr. Cheng?"
It was now past eight o’clock in the evening. Cheng Lie had just finished his shower and typically called Yun Shifei around nine.
At first, he was slightly puzzled as to why Yun Shifei was calling at this hour, but the moment he heard another man’s voice on the line, Cheng Lie couldn’t help but frown.
The appearance of an unfamiliar male voice was undoubtedly suspicious.
"Who are you?" Cheng Lie asked.
Since Cheng Lie didn’t refute him, Brother Hai was convinced that this was indeed Cheng Lie.
He put the phone on speaker and held it up to Yun Shifei’s ear. "Speak to him yourself," he commanded.
"Cheng Lie, I’ve been kidnapped," Yun Shifei said bluntly. "They want ten million. Only then will they let me go."
Ten million. Who had that kind of money available, even Cheng Lie?
Yun Shifei sniffled, thinking to herself—was Cheng Lie’s newly acquired fortune from the Meng Family already about to slip away before he had even had a chance to enjoy it?
Cheng Lie could hear Yun Shifei’s voice over the phone. He could tell she was trying hard to suppress her fear.
At that moment, he felt a raging fury ignite within him.
He hadn’t expected anyone to be bold enough to kidnap Yun Shifei.
In truth, he had assigned someone to protect Yun Shifei not long ago. However, after the incident with Xia Yuezhen had settled, he had deemed her no longer in danger and withdrawn his men.
Who could have predicted that she would still end up being targeted?
"Feifei, don’t be afraid. Hand the phone to the person; I’ll talk to him," Cheng Lie said.
No matter how furious or enraged he felt at that moment, he had no choice but to feign composure.
If he lost his cool, Yun Shifei might only become even more terrified.
The thought of her sitting in some dark, forbidding corner, bound and at risk of losing her life at any moment... It made Cheng Lie want to kill these men.
What were these people thinking? How could they dare?
The phone was handed to Brother Hai, and Cheng Lie said, "I’m bringing the money now. If you so much as lay a finger on her, just try me."
Brother Hai could hear the restrained, yet palpable killing intent in Cheng Lie’s tone. Even as someone who had seen and done much, he couldn’t avoid a flicker of apprehension at that moment.
But he reassured himself—those guys were still just youngsters in their early twenties. Besides, he and his team were in the shadows while Cheng Lie was in the open. What was there to be afraid of?
After ending the call, Cheng Lie immediately contacted Zhao Pan, explained the situation, and told him to bring a team over right away.
He then checked his computer. The necklace he had gifted Yun Shifei carried a tracking system embedded in it.
The function’s primary purpose was simply to monitor her occasional movements.
But now, it had become invaluable.
Cheng Lie focused on the tiny dot on the map, zoomed in, and saw it was located in the outskirts of Beijing, nestled within a mountainous area.
Cheng Lie saved the map data to his phone and, once Zhao Pan arrived, immediately set off.
They sped toward the mountain indicated by the tracking system.
Meanwhile, Yun Shifei sat idly on the ground, watching as several men smoked, drank, and feasted on lavish food before her.
She had nothing to eat.
She was so, so hungry.
Yun Shifei dropped her gaze, thinking of Wen Lin. No one knew if she had managed to successfully escape.
If she had escaped, what would she do? Act as though nothing had happened?
The thought of this filled Yun Shifei with anger.
Perhaps it was because she had been betrayed before in her past life. Now, faced with betrayal again, old grudges started to surface in her heart, merging with new ones.
She would not forgive Wen Lin. She would also tell Cheng Lie not to associate himself with that wicked woman.
Thinking about this, Yun Shifei felt her indignation mounting.
During her earlier phone conversation with Cheng Lie, she hadn’t dared to cry, fearing it would only worry him more. But now, she couldn’t help but feel like shedding tears.
Brother Hai looked at Yun Shifei as he ate, noticing her pitiful expression, seemingly on the verge of tears.
Feeling a bit of sympathy, he passed her a loaf of bread. "Here, why don’t you eat this?"
Yun Shifei: "..."
She shook her head.
Brother Hai sighed. "Little sister, don’t blame us for being ruthless. We’re just trying to earn a living. If only you’d helped us keep an eye on Wen Lin and stopped her from escaping, then we wouldn’t have to squeeze some compensation from you instead. Don’t worry, we won’t do anything to hurt you. Once we get the money, we’ll leave."
With that, he resumed eating.
Yun Shifei looked at Brother Hai. So this kidnapper had a sliver of morality, huh?
That didn’t mean much, of course—they were still criminals.
Yun Shifei remained quiet, sitting in a corner. She thought to herself, Cheng Lie would surely come to rescue her. No matter how difficult, he would show up.
She simply trusted him to do so.
A while later, she suddenly heard a woman’s scream coming from not far away.
The voice startled her—it was a woman!
Yun Shifei frowned slightly. Wen Lin?
The kidnappers, who had been calmly eating moments ago, froze in place. Brother Hai stood up and instructed his two underlings, "Go down the mountain and check it out!"
They moved quickly, heading in the direction of the scream. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
Yun Shifei sat in place, bewildered. Hadn’t Wen Lin already run for a long time? How could her scream sound like she hadn’t gone far at all?
Wen Lin indeed wanted to escape farther away, but wearing high heels while navigating the mountain terrain—and in complete darkness—proved extremely difficult. She accidentally stumbled, slipped, and tumbled down the slope.
The accident made her lose control and scream aloud.
