After Rebirth, I Married the Great Demon King-Chapter 461 Regret
Upon hearing Cheng Lie’s words, Yun Shifei thought about it carefully and felt that what he said made quite a lot of sense.
Considering what she had gone through today, she would probably have a hard time sleeping tonight.
With Cheng Lie by her side, at least she would feel a sense of security.
She trusted that Cheng Lie wasn’t the kind of person who would exploit someone’s vulnerability.
So she cheerfully agreed, "Alright."
When Yun Shifei agreed so readily, her face lit up with an innocent smile, her dark, doe-like eyes filled with trust toward him.
Cheng Lie felt a fleeting moment of regret.
Could he really control himself and not act impulsively?
With that thought swirling in his mind, Cheng Lie’s expression suddenly darkened.
Seeing Cheng Lie’s face turn cold so abruptly, Yun Shifei was baffled. Wasn’t he the one who suggested they sleep together? Could it be that he thought she agreed too quickly, too casually?
She immediately said, "If you’re not happy about it, I can sleep on my own. After all, you’re in the room next door, so I’m not scared."
"I’m not unhappy." Cheng Lie replied.
The truth was, he was just worried he might not be able to resist making a move on her.
Right now, Yun Shifei seemed like a beautifully irresistible cake, tempting him to have a taste.
Alright then, Yun Shifei thought, it seems she misunderstood Cheng Lie.
So she happily returned to her room, grabbed her pillow, and went to find Cheng Lie. Cheng Lie steadied his emotions and thought to himself that since he had extended the invitation, there was no reason to turn her down.
However, how were they supposed to sleep together tonight?
He then suggested, "Why don’t you bring your blanket over too?"
If each of them had their own blanket, it would feel like there was a bit of distance, making boundaries easier to maintain—at least, that’s how Cheng Lie rationalized it.
Yun Shifei froze for a moment. The weather wasn’t cold, and two people sleeping together would definitely make things warmer anyway. Wouldn’t it be fine to just share one blanket? Why was Cheng Lie asking her to bring her own blanket over?
After speaking, Cheng Lie noticed Yun Shifei was looking at him as though he were an idiot. Realizing she hadn’t responded, he suddenly felt he might have said something wrong again without realizing it.
He quickly corrected himself, "I’m just worried you might feel cold. But if you think it’s alright, we can share one blanket."
"Sure."
Yun Shifei happily climbed into bed, pulled the blanket up snugly, and waited for Cheng Lie to join her.
Cheng Lie took a deep breath, lowered his gaze, and stared at his pajamas. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
These pajamas were ones Yun Shifei had bought for him—a blue cotton set, made of soft fabric that felt comfortable against the skin. It was his favorite set of sleepwear...
"Cheng Lie, why are you just standing there? Come over and get into bed already," Yun Shifei called out.
She lay sprawled on the soft, spacious bed, which smelled entirely of Cheng Lie’s scent. It felt as though he were embracing her.
Now she finally understood why, in all those TV dramas, couples would sleep on each other’s beds when the other person wasn’t around.
Apparently, even scents carried memories—just like now. If Cheng Lie weren’t here, lying on his bed would make her feel as if his presence were still with her.
Ugh!
Yun Shifei couldn’t help but scold herself for indulging in such nonsensical thoughts.
After all, Cheng Lie himself wasn’t far away; he was just standing there, his head bowed, seemingly lost in his own thoughts.
After a moment, Cheng Lie finally spoke, "Feifei."
Yun Shifei blinked her big eyes at him, actually paying close attention to what he was about to say.
"I’m going to have a glass of water first."
"Alright."
Yun Shifei was already feeling a little drowsy. Relaxing on a bed fragrant with Cheng Lie’s scent, she felt unusually safe, her eyelids starting to droop.
Cheng Lie turned and walked out, heading to the kitchen, where he poured himself a glass of ice water and downed it.
Why was he so nervous anyway? Weren’t they just sharing a blanket to sleep? Nothing too significant.
After downing the glass of water, the icy liquid gradually calmed his raging thoughts.
Returning to the room, Cheng Lie saw the girl already sound asleep on the bed.
Her frame was so small that, wrapped under the blanket, it was as though she barely took up any space at all.
Cheng Lie stepped closer and listened to her steady breathing—she had fallen asleep already?
Looking at her serene sleeping face, Cheng Lie couldn’t resist curling the corners of his lips into a gentle smile.
When she was asleep, she was unbelievably sweet and adorable.
Cheng Lie lay down beside her, turned off the lights, and closed his eyes.
He had initially thought he could rest calmly, but with another person now beside him, her delicate, floral fragrance seemed to pulse in the darkness, turning into an alluring atmosphere.
Cheng Lie could even sense the softness of the girl’s body beside him—the touch was indescribably pleasant...
With these thoughts in his mind, Cheng Lie abruptly opened his eyes. He couldn’t allow himself to think further.
Still, he couldn’t help but gaze at Yun Shifei for a while longer before finally pulling her into his arms.
Even though Yun Shifei was in a deep sleep, she didn’t resist him. On the contrary, when he wrapped her in his embrace, she even nuzzled against him.
That little nuzzle made Cheng Lie tense up completely, his body gradually heating up.
Perhaps due to the warmth becoming overwhelming for Yun Shifei, she appeared uncomfortable and struggled to roll over to the cooler side of the bed in search of a less scorching spot.
Despite Cheng Lie’s desire to keep holding her, he knew he had to suppress his urges. Eventually, he let her shift to the other side.
He closed his eyes, but her figure remained etched vividly in his mind.
Truly, she trusted him. She knew he wouldn’t do anything inappropriate to her.
But the one suffering for it all was him.
Enduring it was agonizingly difficult.
Taking a deep breath, Cheng Lie suppressed his desires with mental affirmations, gradually calming himself down.
During this time, he suddenly recalled something.
A long time ago, when no one was home, Yun Shifei had called him out of fear, chatting with him on the phone until she fell asleep.
Back then, he had thought, "Well, I can’t exactly sleep beside her, can I?"
Yet here he was now—doing just that.
Maybe, even at that time, he had already sensed that the day would come when they’d end up like this.
Just as now, he wanted to marry her.
Currently, she resisted him because she lacked a strong sense of security. When it came to relationships, that seemed to always be her way; it had taken countless little pushes from him to get her to even move forward.
Previously, he’d felt insecure too, which was why he’d schemed to captivate Yun Shifei, to make her confess her affection for him.
But now, as his confidence grew stronger, his pride wasn’t as fragile as before.
In the future, when it came to their relationship, he’d take the lead in guiding her forward.
After an undisturbed night, the next morning Yun Shifei felt remarkably refreshed.
Perhaps it was no surprise, given how well she had slept last night.
However, upon sitting up, she noticed that Cheng Lie was no longer in the bed.
As she stepped out of the room, the aroma of freshly cooked breakfast drifted in from the kitchen.
Cheng Lie was cooking.
Yun Shifei approached him, "Good morning, Xiao Lie!"
Cheng Lie was frying eggs. Hearing her, he turned to glance at Yun Shifei. "How did you sleep last night?"
"Very well," Yun Shifei replied, her gaze landing on Cheng Lie’s face. "But it seems like you didn’t sleep too well?"
Dark circles rimmed his eyes.
