After Rebirth, I Replaced My Ex-Husband's True Love-Chapter 146: A Side of True Nature
When I arrived, Crystal Dawson was wandering around the inpatient department looking for someone, and the doctors and nurses didn’t dare tell her where Azure Vaughn was.
Silas Lockwood was beside her, earnestly trying to persuade her, "Please, my dear, don’t upset yourself, what will I do if something happens to you? Let’s go back, okay?"
Seeing me arrive, he acted like he’d found a lifeline, quickly waving to me, "Over here, over here!"
I went over and grabbed Crystal Dawson’s wrist, "Crystal, why are you at the hospital so late?"
When Crystal saw me, her face showed a blend of concern and anger, "Zoe, I need to teach that bitch a lesson, that bullshit apology statement made me sick!"
"Okay, okay, calm down, don’t get worked up. Go back with Silas, I’ll handle Azure’s matter myself, don’t worry."
I held Crystal Dawson’s hand, glanced at her rounded belly, and couldn’t help but think of the lost child, feeling a stab of pain in my heart.
Crystal was unwilling to leave. After much persuasion, she finally sat down in the corridor, then irritably ordered Silas Lockwood, "I want mangosteen!!"
"Alright, I’m on it, wait for me!" Silas Lockwood heaved a sigh of relief and dashed off to buy mangosteen.
After Silas left, I sat with Crystal Dawson as she waited, feeling a bit exhausted from her search.
I squeezed her hand tightly, feeling warm inside. Although I’m an only child, with her, Leah Lane, and Tiana O’Connell, I feel like I have several sisters.
Crystal sighed softly, "Zoe, you’re so foolish. You should’ve told Henry Preston about the pregnancy, why let him and Azure get the upper hand?"
"I was planning to be a single mom and didn’t want any ties with Henry over the child, but I didn’t expect...
But I didn’t know I was pregnant at first. I had taken some cold medicine and painkillers, the doctor warned me, the child might not be healthy and could have complications." I gave a bitter smile.
Everyone around me knew about my miscarriage, but only Ivan Underwood knew how hard it was for me to get pregnant again. I asked him not to tell anyone.
Otherwise, I’d really be seen as pitiful.
"Yeah, The Preston Family would definitely fight you for the child. Zoe, I understand you." Crystal nodded.
Just then, my phone rang; it was my mom calling. It was noisy around, so I got up and went to the window at the end of the hall to take the call.
My mom was asking where I was since it was dinner time and I was nowhere to be seen.
"I’m with Crystal, Mom. Go ahead and eat." I replied.
"Why did you run over to Crystal’s? You should’ve told me beforehand," my mom chided, then suspiciously added, "Henry’s not there, is he?"
"Why would he be here?" I replied, exasperated.
"Isn’t Crystal’s husband good friends with Henry? What if there’s a gathering? Zoe, just make sure you don’t get involved with Henry again!" My mom is most afraid of me rekindling anything with Henry.
I answered, "Okay."
Just as I hung up, someone tapped me on the shoulder, and Silas Lockwood was standing there with a bag of fruit, looking bewildered, "Where’s my wife?"
I looked toward the spot where Crystal had been sitting, but it was empty.
Silas and I exchanged glances, and there was an ominous feeling in both our eyes.
Silas hurriedly led me toward the room where Azure was staying.
Azure was in a private room, making the whole floor relatively quiet.
As Silas and I approached a room, we heard Crystal yelling inside, "You dirty mistress, who do you think you are? Daring to bully my Zoe, aren’t those apology videos sickening?
So what if you have a heart condition? I’m pregnant too, we’re equal, get up and fight me!" 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Silas, seeing this, wanted to rush in, but I held him back.
I recalled Crystal’s words, as Silas always thought Azure was just a simple girl. Maybe it’s time to see her true colors.
"Shh." I gestured to him.
"Crystal, you’ve misunderstood me, I really didn’t mean to hurt Miss Hathaway, don’t hit me..." Azure’s voice came out, tense and frightened.
Hearing this, Silas wanted to charge in again.
I pulled him back once more, glaring at him sternly.
"Stop playing games!" Crystal wasn’t buying into Azure’s act, she lashed out again, "Your little tricks may fool men, but not me! It’s just the two of us now, so tell me, how do you want to end this?"
Inside, there was a moment of silence. Silas Lockwood looked at me nervously, signaling with his eyes that he wanted to rush in and stop it, but I wouldn’t allow it.
Finally, Azure Vaughn’s voice rang out again, but this time it carried no fear, rather a hint of sarcasm and sympathy, "Crystal, your personality is really awful. If it weren’t for the pregnancy, I doubt Silas would marry you, right?"
"No matter how awful I am, I would never be a mistress. Of course, scumbags like you kind of slutty vixen," Crystal Dawson retorted, not backing down.
"Silas used to tell me you’re just a shrew. Whoever marries you is unlucky. Tsk, you better watch your kid. Don’t be like Leah Lane and lose your leverage." Azure’s voice even had a tinge of laughter.
I turned to look at Silas Lockwood, his fair face was already frozen in expression, his eyes full of shock and disbelief.
The words Azure just said not only stirred tension between him and Crystal Dawson but also carried a curse-like tone.
Is this the same pure, kind-hearted Azure Vaughn he once knew?
"Bitch, I’m going to tear your filthy mouth today. Didn’t you claim you couldn’t live without a man? Let me just help you die of a heart attack sooner!" Crystal Dawson never cared for civility when cursing.
Then the sound of a chair being thrown echoed from inside.
Silas Lockwood and I rushed in to find Crystal Dawson holding up a chair, while Azure stood grasping the other half.
The next second, Azure suddenly let go, the chair hit her head, and she let out a scream, "Ah! It hurts!"
Crystal Dawson was momentarily stunned, then reacted without fear and swung the chair again.
Azure crouched down, holding her head, looking truly frightened.
"Honey!" Silas Lockwood quickly seized the chair and wrapped Crystal Dawson in his arms, "Don’t be physical; what if you hurt our child? Didn’t you remember what the doctor said about how a mother’s calmness benefits the baby?"
Crystal Dawson’s eyes flared with anger, "Silas Lockwood! If you dare say another good word about her in front of me, I’ll divorce you!"
"I won’t!" Silas Lockwood replied decisively. He glanced at Azure crouching on the floor, his eyes no longer sympathetic but revealed a hint of wariness and disgust.
Both Crystal Dawson and Azure were taken aback by his answer, with Azure unable to resist looking up at him.
From the moment Henry Preston brought her into his social circle, she’d been winning people over with her innocent and cheerful image, except for the Preston Family.
At this moment, another figure appeared at the door.
I turned to look; Henry Preston was standing there with a cold expression, surveying the chaotic scene inside the room with a tinge of irritation in his voice, "What happened now?"
"I’m fine, it’s Crystal who misunderstood me, so she came to ask me something." Azure covered her injured forehead and stood up.
Her eyes were filled with grievance, staring straight at Henry Preston.
Silas Lockwood’s eyes widened, probably angered, as Azure’s words were clearly accusing Crystal of causing trouble to Henry!
"Azure, I think my wife didn’t misunderstand you, right?" Silas Lockwood couldn’t help but snap.
Azure’s eyes showed obvious amazement, seemingly unable to comprehend why the usually protective Silas was suddenly so against her.
Henry Preston’s deep and cold eyes examined Azure, then looked at Crystal Dawson and Silas Lockwood, making it difficult to discern his thoughts.
"Silas... What did I do wrong?" Azure’s eyes were red, "I know that Crystal is your wife now, and she’s pregnant, so I don’t want to argue with her. She wanted to hit me with a chair, and I endured it, but I... I’m sick too!"
"I!" Silas Lockwood’s face turned sour, seemingly wanting to voice what he had just heard, but after glancing at Henry, he held back.
I looked indifferently at Henry, waiting for him to defend Azure.
Henry walked over, helped Azure to sit on the bed, his voice indifferent, "Don’t move around if you’re not well."
Azure immediately showed a tearful expression, as if suffering an enormous grievance, "Mr. Preston, am I really that annoying? Why even Silas..."
Henry took out his phone, opened a video, interrupting Azure, "Did you release this?"
It was that apology video to me, which had sensationally climbed up the hot search rankings, with many believing that I must have pressured Azure into apologizing due to the stress she’s under.
Why is he asking this?
Azure froze for a moment, seeming to sense that Henry’s attitude was wrong, she answered cautiously, "It was Joy Lawson who suggested I apologize to Miss Hathaway. After all, my presence did hurt her, my intention was to seek her forgiveness, and for us to defuse the tension..."
What a pleasant explanation, shifting the blame to Joy Lawson while keeping the goodwill to herself.
I bet Henry must be moved by how kind-hearted this girl is!
