Chapter 1853: A Few Weeks of Stability (Part 1)

Speaking of the babies, they really grew up so fast~

They graduated from crib-beds, and they now had mini beds with stairs in their own room. It wasn’t like those high railings had any use with them anyway. And now that they were completely potty trained, there were now mini stairs and seats on the toilet for them as well.

It was a bit of a challenge of course, especially since Meatball was all over the place and sometimes he did many things at once while running—well, they’d rather not think about it sometimes.

Some images were meant to be erased from the mind. Sadly, some of them had good memories, so they just had to live with it.

Pepper, in contrast, was a well-behaved little Princess. She was graceful for her age and ultra adorable. Whenever she felt discomfort (for example, the wrong sitting position on their baby toilet seat), she would just whine a little and call on the nearest adult.

The little girl naturally learned faster, too, and the moment she was able to go potty on her own, Althea and the other ladies watching cheered for her.

The praise for her inspired Meatball to do well, and so they were now completely diaper-less cuties.

It was a process though, because later that night—

"WUUUUU! MAMAAAAAAA!!"

This was followed by the door knocking, and the type of thud made by a little hand urgently patting on the door with his palm.

"Wuuuu—"

It was a heartbreaking cry, and they scooted to the side of the bed without thinking and opened the door to see their son crying...his bottom pajamas wet.

"Oh, my baby," Althea kneeled down to comfort the baby.

He obviously wet the bed, which was normal. Garan carried the boy to get him cleaned up, while Althea went to the room to change the beddings.

"Mama?" Little Pepper called her as she entered. The baby girl was groggy in her own bed with a pink canopy and Althea sat down to kiss her soft face.

"Go back to sleep, my love."

"Mewbow?"

"He’s fine, Daddy’s gonna bring him here."

"Wan Mama..." the baby girl mumbled with that milky voice of hers, pacifier falling down, as she extended her chubby arms to her.

Althea’s heart softened, and she carried the baby after putting the pacifier back. Obviously, she wanted to sleep with her tonight. In retrospect, the baby boy probably wouldn’t leave his father either.

In the end, after replacing the soiled sheets and mattress to the laundry Lola’s group handled the housework for a fee, and they had washing stores now, and a few in the villas.

Washing machines are one of the appliances that the Specialty Store had developed. Althea simply had to place them in the laundry, and the old women’s team would handle things.

After this, she took her daughter to the room, and they settled down on the bed together.

Soon, her husband and son joined in, with the latter’s eyes puffy and cheeks red from crying. The couple scooted as close to each other as possible, with comforting smiles on their faces, which also relaxed the children lying between them.

The family rested like this, immersed in each other’s warmth.

...

Things were relatively stable for a few weeks after that, and there were many people starting to return to Alterra after a long time away.

For one, Tanod and Tambay finally managed to reach the Alterran Region, and with both their parents! After traveling for a couple of weeks by car and on foot, they finally neared home.

It was a really costly and time-consuming endeavor, but it happened. More importantly, they had both of them! So many things could happen in this world, after all, and after subsequent disasters, who wouldn’t be worried for their family?

Their parents were only temporary residents in their old town (the permanent residency there was too expensive and not worth the cost), and their jobs were not too important, so it was easy to pull them out.

Their states were horrible though, and their mother...was even afflicted by the disease.

She survived, but she wouldn’t survive a battle with a level 5 monster at all. She would even be hurt as collateral if someone nearby used their abilities.

This meant that if two level 10 and above ended up in a fight, then she could get hurt just by them passing by her.

Such a life in a town with minimal rules was too dangerous. Alterra was also a town, but at least it had strict violence rules.

The trip there had been very dangerous, but fortunately, they could hire low-level mercenary teams to guard them. They also had some beast-repelling stickers left, making things doable to some degree.

Mother had already passed the third stage and, while weak, she was no longer contagious. However, her state of weakness was obvious, and many people still believed that they were dirty.

The mercenary team only accepted the job when she was completely covered up and was carried by either Tambay or Tanod.

They passed by some Alterran-associated villages, but they could not rest there as they had an afflicted in the party. This was the case everywhere, so they didn’t fault them, but the brothers still hoped to buy some sustenance.

The Lords of these villages had stocked up on some supplies, including beast-repelling stickers.

They told them they were Alterran citizens and answered some ’trick questions’ they gave, so they managed to prove their citizenship and were given the right to purchase something ’so precious the Lord wouldn’t even sell them to relatives’. Allegedly.

At the very least, their identity made sure they didn’t get shot down or something. A few villages they passed through before certainly tried to do so...

They bought a few repelling stickers at a high price, which was understandable, and they didn’t blame the Lords. They also received some news about Alterra.

They found out that Alterra had produced a cure, and they couldn’t help but thank the skies that they found it.

Whether or not it would help mother, though, was another matter entirely, but they did not care. The dashed back to Alterra without rest anyway.
