After Surviving the Apocalypse, I Built a City in Another World-Chapter 1866: The Half-orc Villa (Part 2)
When asked, Maomao flushed immediately.
"Are you pregnant?!" They couldn’t help but squeak. Maomao immediately shook her head.
"No, no, how can it be so easy?" she quickly answered back. Seeing her looking absolutely serious, her friends couldn’t help but feel a little sad.
When were they going to see the little bunnies? The little foxes?
How cute would those be, right!?
But then, yeah, they shouldn’t have been too excited. Everyone knew that half-orcs and other races were famously slow to reproduce. Maomao and Gochi hadn’t been trying for long, how could they already conceive?
Bianca patted her head, liking the feel of her hair as always. "We heard that Master Cheman has been collecting ingredients for his fertility pills," she said.
"We made reservations, in fact..." she added, blushing a bit. After all, she and her husband, Eloi, had a large level gap. Meanwhile, she was not getting younger. They hoped to conceive sooner rather than later.
"Those work for half-orcs, too?"
"They function for all species, which is why it’s so popular," another said, and this made both Gochi and Maomao pause in thought.
Of course, its efficacy also varied a lot depending on the couple and their races. However, Cheman’s could overcome those differences.
He got inspiration from this from the pharmacy products. After all, health and mana potions, as well as the buff potions, worked for everyone.
After years of study, he confirmed that they targeted the aether integrated in the body, so he designed medicines that would also take the aether into consideration.
The materials and combinations that could do this were not common though, so it was really quite expensive and energy-consuming. It was why Cheman was often outside the territory, for a breath of fresh air, to gather some materials himself, as well as get the damned nobles eager to have kids off his back.
Interestingly, now, he was perfectly willing to do it, and he might even sell it for minimal profit too.
He didn’t want to be biased but many noble children he had seen before were little monsters (only nobles could afford to buy his medicine). They were raised by big devils, growing up to be ultra annoying, so Cheman was never particularly inspired to help them out.
Why add little devils to this already challenging world?
In contrast, the little ones here in Alterra were precious little cherubs.
His heart and legs would turn to mush at the sight of them and he would be happy to succumb.
For example, Cheman hung around the Gaea Villas quite often. Before, it was just to see Althea, especially when he had something to discuss with her, when he wanted to see her garden, or when he wanted some delicious free food.
However, at some point, his main purpose for visiting became the children.
"Gampa Choo!"
"Gampa Che!"
Speaking of little cherubs...
"Ohh? Did the little ones miss Grampa Cheman?!" He exclaimed as he entered, spreading his arms to receive the toddlers waddling towards him.
He hugged the two cuties and swung them around, his heart was filled up by their sweet giggles.
Ah, right now, he could be taken away by the skies, and he’d be smiling.
He was so glad to have specialized in this potion. If he could add more and more cherubs to the world, then his life’s meaning would be met!
Most high-level alchemists with specialties generally had a reason for developing the potions that they became most known for.
Hoffen said that his main motivation for creating the limb regenerating potion was because his siblings perished in a war back in his youth. They died of blood loss after losing an appendage or two.
In the next few decades, it was his pet project, and he discovered and made many other things in between.
As for Cheman...had wanted children, once upon a time. At least this was when he was still young and impressionable.
The woman he fell in love with was ten years his senior and had a high level. At the time, they couldn’t bear children despite wanting to. She sadly perished before she could see him succeed, however.
Well, that has long passed, and once upon a time, he did find meaning in helping families, but that had been chipped away by some people’s greed.
Now, in Alterra, he saw the purity of the children and the unconditional love of their parents, something that was not too common in the noble circles in other places.
It reminded him of what it was like to feel warm and fuzzy and to look forward to creating one’s own family—just for the sake of it.
And to give this chance to good families who would normally struggle to do so? What could be more meaningful than that?
...
Back in the Orc Villa, the party was coming to an end. Everyone’s stomachs were bloating, and their faces were smiling and satisfied. Quite a few were also inebriated. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
"AHHH~! LALALLALA~!
"DANCE WITH ME~!"
"I’m dizzzyyyy~"
Some people were dancing like goons and zombies, but oh well.
Music was now part of Alterran daily life. It was mostly the phones, all well-charged by solar chargers, and then the speakers bought from the Specialty Store.
In contrast with the people below, Maomao and Gochi went up the treehouse instead. They were both a little introverted, after all. After seeing that everyone they invited was having fun on their own, they slipped away as soon as they could.
It was a large treehouse built on the largest tree retained within the orc’s lot. This was for the orcs who loved to climb, but also for the flying orcs.
Now, it was also for those who wished some peace and quiet despite the boisterousness. Somehow, the talk of children reminded them both of the friend they lost.
Maomao rested her head on Gochi’s shoulder, their feet hanging at the edge of the treehouse’s open balcony. This spot was where most bird orcs would land unimpeded.
They felt very melancholic whenever they thought of flying orcs. Their hearts were hurting.
This treehouse was made with Nana in mind, after all.
They wondered how Nana was...
