Chapter 89: Chapter 88 Misunderstanding_1

Xiao Ruoching watched the scene in shock. Her mind went completely blank, as if it had suddenly shut down.

Her thoughts were in chaos. She wanted to kill her Master, didn’t she? So what did his actions have to do with her? Even if he went to the Red Pavilion every day, what concern was it of hers? She had become his disciple with only one goal: to grow stronger and then kill him! But why did her heart ache with a stabbing pain at this sight? Yes, that’s it, it was because she couldn’t save Junior Sister Mo Li... because of Junior Sister Mo Li... because of her junior sister...

Xiao Ruoching kept trying to find reasons for her feelings, listening to Su Bei’s explanations.

After Su Bei finished speaking, he frowned, looking at Xiao Ruoching who still stood there dumbfounded.

Why was he explaining so much to her? According to the system’s theory, she was just a somewhat good-looking "tool" to him. How had this turned into a situation where it felt like he’d been caught cheating? He was her Master. So, even if she *had* caught him, what could she do? What did it have to do with her?

Suddenly, a hint of suspicion flickered across Su Bei’s face.

Could this foolish disciple have fallen for him? He knew he was brilliant, learned, handsome, and dashing—a ’pear blossom crushing the begonia,’ irresistibly charming, invincible, a captivator of countless maidens, a man who’d outshine stars like Dilraba and Gulinazha, the legendary love-killer Ma’erzaha. But that shouldn’t lead his disciple to such rebellious thoughts... Besides, it wasn’t as if he... harbored *those* kinds of feelings for this disciple.

Su Bei coughed lightly and rose from the Cold Jade Spring. He patted Xiao Ruoching’s head, his voice gentle. "What are you thinking about? Your Master thinks you may have misunderstood something. Having you as a disciple is already the best."

Xiao Ruoching trembled slightly at the sight of Su Bei’s handsome eyes. Her eyelashes fluttered as she watched water droplets fall from his wet hair. Her agitation from moments ago slowly subsided, replaced by a creeping unease.

Her reaction just now was too extreme. By any measure of sentiment or reason, a disciple couldn’t possibly show any reaction to their Master’s actions! It was too presumptuous. Besides, this was a man she was constantly prepared to kill!

Xiao Ruoching’s expression regained its composure. She tried to look indifferent as she spoke softly to Su Bei, "Your disciple is merely concerned for Master’s health."

Su Bei curled his lip and withdrew his hand from Xiao Ruoching’s head. "I thought you’d fallen in love with your Master," he said gloomily. "Anyone who didn’t know better might think you were jealous."

A sudden flush of red appeared on Xiao Ruoching’s earlobes, and she quickly turned away. But Su Bei’s casual remark, ’Having you as a disciple is already the best,’ still echoed in her ears. Her cheeks grew inexplicably warm, flushed crimson.

Su Bei looked thoughtfully at Xiao Ruoching, then glanced at Mo Li, still soaking in the pool. "Hmm! I suppose the effects of the drug haven’t worn off yet," he mused. "Let her soak here a little longer."

As soon as Su Bei finished speaking, he saw Mo Li rise from the water. Her wet silver hair lay draped over a semi-transparent, moon-colored robe, revealing a faint hint of the red bodice beneath. Mo Li’s cool gaze swept lightly over everything. Then, with graceful movements, she retrieved a black cloak from a ring on her finger and draped it over her striking figure. Her bearing was elegant, her every glance captivating; her demeanor and aura were utterly transformed from moments before.

Su Bei blinked, bewildered by the scene unfolding before him.

Mo Li extended a slender, jade-like hand to gather the loose silver hair at her temples, draping it behind her head. She then glided gracefully towards Su Bei and, with a gentle curtsy, said,

"Thank you, Elder Su, for saving my life.

"Mo Li, under the influence of the medication, has just committed many acts towards Elder Su for which she feels deeply ashamed.

"She is truly remorseful and implores Elder Su’s forgiveness!"

However, from an angle unseen by anyone, the corners of Mo Li’s lips curved into a knowing smile.

Su Bei looked at Mo Li, now so cold and aloof she seemed to transcend the mortal world. He found it hard to reconcile this image with the woman who had acted like a pervert just moments before.

Could it really have been the drug? But that doesn’t seem right! He’d sensed something was off about her back at the restaurant. Why does this impeccably proper Mo Li seem... a bit fake? Could she have already been under the drug’s influence back then?

Deciding not to dwell on it, he nodded and smiled. "No harm done! It’s a trivial matter. Though, I hope Miss Mo won’t blame me for taking a slight advantage."

Xiao Ruoching looked at the ’restored’ Mo Li and sighed in relief.

This aloof, proud, and dignified woman was the Mo Li she knew. It truly must have been because of the drug! Since Mo Li showed no sign of anything amiss, it meant that what she had imagined hadn’t happened at all...

She then offered Mo Li a friendly smile.

Mo Li raised her head and nodded coolly at Xiao Ruoching.

The three of them then turned and left the place that had made Su Bei feel like he was caught between heaven and hell.

Upon exiting, Su Bei saw Dan Wulan standing there quietly. A smile spread across his face as he called out, "Ninth Junior Sister!"

Dan Wulan responded with a curt hum, her pretty face impassive. Her gaze swept over Xiao Ruoching and Mo Li before she stated coolly, "I shall take my leave."

With that, she turned and departed.

Su Bei watched Dan Wulan’s retreating purple-clad figure, shaking his head inwardly.

Such an aloof Ninth Junior Sister! He’d thought this incident might bring them closer. Gaining this woman’s favor was proving to be incredibly difficult...

Headmistress Yu watched this unfold with a playful glint in her eyes. "Elder Su," she said, "how are you feeling?"

Su Bei’s face was full of dark lines. He had no desire to repeat what he’d just endured. Seeing that Headmistress Yu seemed about to say more, Su Bei quickly cleared his throat and looked at her seriously. "Headmistress Yu, there’s been progress with the newspaper! The cooperation between our sects can begin any day now!"

Seeing Su Bei’s earnest expression, Headmistress Yu also dropped her playful demeanor and nodded. "In that case, Elder Su, please follow me to the meeting hall." She glanced at Xiao Ruoching and Mo Li before adding, "You two should wait in your room. It’s best not to wander about; this is the Red Pavilion, after all..."

With that, she casually summoned a disciple of the Star Moon Sect, instructing her to lead the two young women to a room.

Finally, a sense of calm returned.

Only Su Bei and Headmistress Yu remained in the room.

Headmistress Yu approached Su Bei with graceful steps. She placed a delicate hand on his chest, bit her red lip, and chuckled. "I underestimated you, little brother. You really did hold back..."
