Alpha's Bite Between My Legs-Chapter 550: The Lover’s Past
Rocco’s brow furrowed upon hearing what Rosina had stated. His head jerked up, expression tensed. "No, I don’t know, and I thought it was kinder not to know. Safer for her too... and for me," he stated, fist clenched at his heart.
"Aren’t you curious?" Rosina asked further. She was enjoying the tension forming between them as she was about to reveal the truth.
"I always think throughout these years in the human realm. That she may have a new family now, living peacefully, and perhaps... happily," Rocco whispered, sadness echoed in his voice.
Rocco noticed Rosina’s hardened expression. He knew she had something to tell him. "Say it, tell me what I need to know."
Rosina’s lips pressed into a thin line. Her tone carried heaviness, a deliberate choice of words that couldn’t be softened.
"Giselle... did not vanish into the quiet life you hoped for her. She carried the wounds... deep wounds you never saw," Rosina started, wanting to see how Rocco reacted.
Rocco’s breath caught. His throat worked, but no sound came.
Rosina stepped closer, her gaze unyielding. "She became someone that you didn’t expect at all, Rocco. Bitterness consumed her. She hated the crown, hated the wolves. And most of all, she..." her voice faltered, though her eyes never left his, "... she hated you."
The words struck Rocco like a blade. Rocco staggered back half a step, as though the ground beneath him shifted. His weathered face broke, every line etched deeper by grief.
"No!" Rocco’s voice was hoarse. "Not Giselle... she... she loved me!"
"She did," Rosina admitted, her voice trembling. "But that love won’t be the same when you leave her. She was healed, but never herself."
"Please..." Rocco’s head lowered, hiding the forming tears in his eyes. "Tell me directly... What did she do for you to come all the way here?"
Rosina’s eyes glistened, her chest heaving. "Giselle gained power in the human realm. A dangerous one," she started. "She had created a company that involves the flesh of the young."
Rocco’s brows furrowed further. "What do you mean by that flesh?"
"Giselle has gathered hundreds or maybe thousands of orphaned children throughout these years and uses them... Some were bought and sold to sell their bodies, while the other undesirable ones... their flesh was rather sold to eat." Rosina chose her words carefully so Rocco would not have a heart attack.
"WHAT!?" Rocco’s voice rose in shock. His eyes shook as he couldn’t believe what he just heard from Rosina. "Why would she do that? No! That’s too much. Maybe you’re mistaken. My Giselle would never do such cruel things!"
Rosina closed her eyes, calming her heart. "I guess leaving her child and the love of her life changed how her brain works. After all, it was painful even if she didn’t show it to you before."
Rocco’s knees buckled, and he fell behind him as though his body could no longer carry the weight of the truth. His chest heaved, one hand clutching at his tunic near his heart, the other trembling violently at his side.
"Giselle... no... not her..." Rocco’s voice cracked, broken syllables swallowed by grief. "She was so kind to me. She’s like an angel, singing me songs in the past... She swore her love would never falter... and she actually loves children! She always dreamed of having many pups with me... for our... family."
Rocco’s words strangled in his throat as memories rushed like a flood, now distorted by the horrors Rosina described.
Rosina tilted her head. "I guess, Giselle became someone opposite to her original self. Fascinating."
"Stop..." Rocco rasped, pressing both hands on his ears as though to shut Rosina’s voice out. His body rocked forward, eyes bloodshot and brimming. "Stop saying her name! Don’t make her into this monster!"
Rosina sighed. ’It must be horrifying how I destroy Giselle’s image from his mind. A perfect mate is actually a monster,’ she thought.
However, Rosina wasn’t planning on stopping. She leaned closer, her words deliberate and merciless, and each one made sure to cut through him.
"She became a monster, Rocco. And she blamed you for it. She cursed your name, the life she lost, and with every child’s flesh she traded, with every innocence she shattered... she thought of the wolf who abandoned her," Rosina grinned, loving how she stated her own sentence.
"NO!" Rocco roared, his voice shaking, his claws extending as if a wolf was trying to resurface from the pain and disbelief. His head fell into his hands, and his shoulders shook violently. "Why!? Why did you even tell me this? Why bring me such agony? I’m living peacefully now."
Rosina’s lips curved faintly, not from joy, but from satisfaction. She had dug deep enough. She waited until Rocco’s sobs ebbed into shallow breaths, until his fists unclenched slightly.
Then, Rosina’s tone shifted into a soft, like silk, wrapping around a broken glass. She knelt before Rocco, lifting her hand to gently touch his trembling arm.
"Rocco," Rosina whispered, her voice soothing now, steady as a balm. "I did not tell you this to destroy you. I told you because the truth is cruel, but it is necessary. Giselle is gone, and what remains is an enemy."
Rosina paused. She smirked slightly as she continued. "And I want you to wake up from the fake scenario you created about Giselle. Perhaps you should take responsibility for the results of your actions in the past. After all, everything has its own consequences."
Rocco’s bloodshot eyes lifted into hers. "Responsibility...."
"Yes," Rosina’s hand slid down to cover his fist, firm yet tender. "Because sooner or later, Giselle might visit this realm. You don’t want to miss that, right?"
"Giselle.... She’s coming back.... My love is back!" Rocco exclaimed. His despairing expression shifted into a happy one, as if he had forgotten everything they had discussed. Just the thought of seeing Giselle again consumed his mind like a plague.
"Yes, she will," Rosina smiled as she stood up. Her job was complete. However, she failed to control her mouth, making the whole scene much worse than expected. "And if you refuse to cooperate. More innocent blood will be lost."
Rosina held Rocco’s gaze like a vice. "So tell me, Rocco. Are you willing to cooperate with me... to save what she destroyed?"
