Alpha's Hidden Precious Luna-Chapter 100
Lily POV
“I’m sorry to interrupt,” I said, trying to keep my voice steady despite the turmoil inside me. “But I need to talk to Kai.”
Luna Helen pursed her lips, but she gave a stiff nod. “We’re not finished here,” she said to Kai before turning and walking away, her heels clicking against the polished floor. As soon as we were alone, Kai sighed heavily, running a hand through his hair. He looked exhausted, shadows under his eyes, and tension etched into every line of his face.
“What are you doing here, Lily?” he asked. His tone was not unkind but distant.
I stepped closer, my hands clenching into fists at my sides. “I could ask you the same thing. You’ve been avoiding me for days, Kai. If it’s not this hospital, it’s somewhere else. What’s going on, Kai? What about us? Who is she, truly?”
His expression hardened and his gaze drifted to the almost lifeless form of the woman lying on the bed, then back at me. Suddenly, he stirred me towards the door, taking one last glance as we closed the door. We were now standing in the corridor.
“It’s complicated,” he said finally.
My frustration was already boiling at this point. At the care, Kai was showing her. He wasn’t even bothering to hide it. “Complicated? That’s all you ever say! I deserve to know the truth, Kai. I’m your mate!”
My voice cracked at the end and Kai flinched as if my words had struck him physically. For a moment, he said nothing, and the silence between us stretched unbearably.
“She’s someone from my memories, Lily. I found her on the edge of our packlands,” he finally said, his voice low. “I couldn’t just leave her there to die.”
“That’s not what I’m asking,” I said, my voice trembling. “I want to know who she is to you. Why are you spending so much time with her? Why won’t you talk to me?”
Kai closed his eyes and for a moment, something flickered in them – guilt, pain, something I couldn’t quite place. But then it was gone, replaced by the same stoic mask he had been wearing for days.
“I can’t explain everything right now,” he said. “There are things I need to figure out first.”
My chest tightened. “Figure out? You’re shutting me out, Kai. How am I supposed to trust you when you won’t even let me in?”
He stepped closer, his expression softening as he reached out to touch my arm. “I’m not shutting you out, Lily. I’m protecting you.”
“From what?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
He hesitated, his hand dropping back to his side. “From things you don’t need to worry about. Not yet.”
I took a step, fighting the hurt that had lodged in my chest. “Not yet?” I repeated bitterly. “So, I’m just supposed to wait in the dark while you... what? Sort your feelings for her?”
“It’s not like that,” he blurted, but I shook my head.
“I don’t know what to believe anymore,” I said, tears pricking at my eyes. “But I can’t keep doing this, Kai. I need to know where I stand.”
He looked like he wanted to say something, but before he could, a doctor and his team arrived.
“Alpha,” the doctor said, bowing slightly. “We’re here to monitor her progress, but she’s doing well for now. Her condition is still critical.”
Kai nodded, his attention shifting immediately to the doctor. “Thank you. Let me know if there’s any change.”
I watched as Kai turned away from me, following the doctor and his team inside the room. After a few minutes, they muttered some words to Kai inside before the doctor left with his team.
Kai stood there for a moment before coming back out to where I was.
“I’ll explain everything when the time is right,” he said.
But the words felt hollow to me. A promise I wasn’t sure he could keep. I nodded stiffly, not trusting myself to speak, and turned to leave.
As I walked down the hallway, my mind raced with doubts and fears. Who was this she-wolf? Why was Kai so protective of her? And most importantly, what did it mean for our future?
For the first time, I felt like I was losing Kai, and I didn’t know if I could fight to keep him, if his heart was already elsewhere.
I left the VIP ward, trying not to break down. I made my way toward the exit, my mind still reeling from the conversation I heard with Kai. I wanted to believe that Kai was shutting me out for the worst reasons, but his evasiveness and the mysterious presence of the she-wolf were too much to ignore.
As soon as I left the hospital, a familiar figure stepped into her path.
“Lily.”
The voice stopped me in my tracks. Luna Helen stood near the entrance of the hospital, her tall and imposing figure silhouetted against the bulbs outside. Her elegant features were as cold as ever. Her piercing blue eyes held one of the warmth. I was desperate for now.
“Luna Helen,” I greeted hesitantly, with uncertainty in my voice.
She gave me a curt nod, her lips pressed into a thin line. “Follow me to my car.” It wasn’t a request.
I hesitated more, before nodding and followed her obediently towards a sleek black car parked at a designated parking spot in the car park. The driver opened the door, and she gestured for me to get in first before following in after me.
Despite being Kai’s mate and her accepting me because it’s her son’s choice, she still intimidated me. The woman carried herself with the kind of grace that came from a generation of nobility. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
The leather seats were cool against my skin as I slipped into the passenger side. The car’s interior smelled of expensive perfume and something else—anxiety.
Luna Helen sat still adjusting her coat... she didn’t say anything immediately, and I sat rigidly waiting for whatever it was she wanted to say.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, she turned to me.
“I’m not going to pretend that you’re a great option for my son,” she began bluntly.
