Chapter 107: Chapter 107

Lucas POV

Alpha Gregory’s reign had to end.

I had genuinely thought that waiting for a few more months, gathering allies or something like that would be the better approach, but the more I think about it, the more I realize that he would not change regardless and the more I keep him in power, the more harm would come to Lily.

The man’s cruelty, secrets and manipulations had reached a tipping point and I intend to strip him of his power piece by piece until the pack was mine.

I leaned back in my chair, swirling my wine glass in midair, allowing it to catch with the light of the office as I went over my plan one more time. My first move was to ensure Alpha Gregory’s strength waned gradually.

I was a Gamma—with a Gamma wolf. Although we are better skilled in fighting battles and all, I was no match for an alpha wolf, which Alpha Gregory had. I could slowly buy all the men who are loyal to him to my side, but that would take a much longer process and something might happen in between.

So, the first thing is to make sure he loses strength, enough so that when I challenge him, I would win. The idea was cunning, if not ruthless, but it was my bet. I reached into the inner pocket of my jacket and pulled out a vial. I raised it upward, staring at it thoughtfully.

The man that sold me the potion had assured me that it would work if applied daily. Alpha Gregory is a heavy drinker, that’s why I decided to use this means. Consecutive applications will weaken him, and he’ll cannot react by the time he understands the situation.

For this, however, I needed someone close to Gregory—someone I could trust to be discreet and loyal to my cause. Someone that I could easily do away with if there’s a crack. Someone with no ties, no family..., someone who no one would look for if they went missing.

There was a woman. She has been Gregory’s longest mistress and the only one who had direct access to him. Usually, he prefers to lodge with the women in his guest house outside the pack house, but this woman was practically a girlfriend. Everyone knew she was his mistress, and they respected her for it.

On a few occasions, Alpha Gregory had appeared publicly with her. She was the perfect candidate.

There was a small knock on the door, followed by my secretary peeping into my office.

“Alpha, there’s someone here to see you. She doesn’t have an appointment but insisted that you would see her. Her name is Cassandra.”

I checked my watch; it was nearly midnight. I nodded with a quiet smile. “Yes, please. Let her in and you can close for the day.”

“Okay, Alpha. Goodnight,” my secretary murmured.

A few seconds later, the door opened, and Cassandra entered. There were so many rumors about her and about the kind of person she could be. Alpha Gregory had rescued her during a rogue hunt and brought her back to the pack.

Some say she’s the daughter of an Alpha or Beta because of the way she carried herself, while others swear she’s an Omega. She strutted into my office, draped in a sleek black coat and glasses that covered her eyes.

I rose to my feet. “Thank you for coming. I was beginning to think you won’t keep to your word.”

She only arched her brow and settled on the chair without my permission. “I’m here now, Lucas. Cut to the chase.”

“Wine? Coffee? Tea?” I offered, ignoring the hardness in her tone. It was all an act—this sophistication.

She stared at me for a while through her dark shades before sighing. “Wine, I need to retire for the night after here, anyway. Anything to make me sleep early.”

I nodded and crossed over to the other side of the room. Knowing that her eyes were on me, I brought back the unopened bottle of wine and opened it in her presence. After pouring her and myself a cup, I sat down.

“What’s this about, Lucas?” she asked, her tone was wary now.

“Nothing,” I shrugged. “How was the trip? And the lessons? Did it go well?”

Her eyes darted with fear as she shifted uncomfortably, taking a sip from her glass of wine. “Yeah, it went well. I should graduate soon,” she replied.

Recently, Cassandra had taken a liking for bead making and Alpha Gregory had paid an exorbitant amount for her to go learn the skill in a neighbouring pack. Because of how tedious the learning could be most times, she spends days and weeks there before coming back.

“That’s wonderful!” I nodded. My gaze was still on her. “Is he better in bed?” I asked.

She sputtered, choking on her drink as her face turned red. I didn’t move a muscle. I just sat there, watching her quietly. She reached for the tissue box on the table and grabbed several sheets, wiping her mouth and her body.

I waited until she was done.

“I won’t blame you, honestly. Alpha Gregory is old and may not be the stud he used to be but cheating on him with your personal trainer, your bead instructor, the delivery guy, the Alpha’s son from Shadow Moon Pack and those other men...” I paused, ignoring how white has face had gone.

“I don’t know what he would do exactly when he learns of it, but in true Alpha Gregory’s fashion, I’m not sure you will survive and you know you cannot run either. He has people working for him everywhere. It’s shocking that he doesn’t keep tabs on you, honestly. That shows he trusts you so much.”

She stared at me for a few seconds before leaning into her chair. “What do you want?”

I smiled. “I have a proposition for you,” I began.

She raised an eyebrow. “A proposition? You’ve never needed me before, so why now?”

“Because you’re the only one that can help me,” I replied. “You have access to Alpha Gregory and I know he trusts you more than most, even more than his daughter. I need you to...adjust his drinks for me.”

Her eyes flickered with suspicion. “Adjust? What do you mean?”

I leaned forward, speaking in a whisper. “I want you to add this to his drinks—a harmless—looking sweetener. It’s odorless, tasteless, and undetectable.”

“You want to poison him?” I saw a flicker of relief in her eyes as she asked.

“Of course not,” I scoffed. “He’s still my father-in-law. The drink won’t happen. Let’s just say it’s a precaution for his health, that’s all.”

She stared at me for a long time with an unreadable expression. “And why should I do this for you? I will not connive with you, Lucas. I’m not that kind of person.”

I smirked. “I guess you’re not.”

I reached for my phone and scrolled through my gallery for a few seconds. After a while, I played a video. It was an intimate video of her and one of Alpha Gregory’s closest friend, Alpha of Shadow Moon pack.

I showed her the video and her eyes went wide with fear.

“I have a lot of this. So, do yourself a favour and just do what I’m asking you now that I’m still asking politely. I would make sure you’re well compensated. I’ll pay you good money, okay?”

She inhaled deeply and snatched the vial from the table, rising to her feet.

“Hold on!” I called out to her.

“What now?” she turned, rolling her eyes at me.

“You must use it in his drink every single day. Two drops each. Reach out to me when that finishes, okay?”

She reached for her wineglass and downed the entire content in one go. Before nodding. “Fine. But if this backfires, Lucas and you try to throw me under the bus, I’ll make sure you regret dragging me into it.”

I smiled, satisfied. “It won’t backfire. You have my word.”

After she left, I picked up my encrypted phone, the one I was using to communicate with Alpha Gregory’s contact in Royal Hunters Pack and sent a message.

The message read: 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

I need information. How is Lily? Is she safe? Keep me updated on her well-being—weekly check-ins and, for now, don’t grab her yet. I’ll give you further instructions in the future.

I exhaled with a smile on my face. Everything was going the way I wanted.
