Chapter 225: 225-Let’s Get That Damn Crown

Kash:

After hours of travel, we finally arrived east.

It was early morning when our convoy pulled into Lara’s pack territory. Black cars lined the entrance, engines still humming as doors opened one after another.

Lara sat happily in her seat, looking around at the arrangements her father had made for our arrival. Security surrounded us, scanning the area and signaling for pack members to clear the space as everyone tried to catch a glimpse of me.

The flight had ended only hours ago, and the drive from the airport had been quiet, heavy with exhaustion. Lara was tired. She had fallen asleep during the drive, while I stayed awake, thinking about Iris.

The moment we arrived, Lara jumped out of the car and rushed to her father, wrapping her arms around him and hugging him tightly.

Her father stood there with broad shoulders, hands clasped behind his back, a smirk resting on his lips even without a crown.

The look he gave made it clear he believed he had succeeded. He had found a mate for his daughter and convinced me to accept her and her pack as something I was meant to build and grow.

I stepped out of the car, anxious but careful not to show it. I appeared calm to everyone watching. They had no idea what plans I carried within me.

Lara moved toward me, took my hand, and wrapped her arm around mine as she guided me toward her father.

"Welcome to the east," her father said with a smile, opening his arms to pull us into a group hug.

I inclined my head slightly and allowed Lara to remain close. Cameras flashed around us. People recorded everything, voices rising in welcome. Some pack members had been asked to sing, and children stood nearby holding flower bouquets.

Lord Ronald stepped forward next. His suit was dark and perfectly fitted, and his movements were deliberate. When he reached the front, he lifted his voice.

"My great son-in-law has arrived," he announced. "The east has been expecting you. I hope today marks the start of a new journey for you, alongside my daughter."

He turned toward me, leaving the rest for me to say.

"Yeah, the journey was long," I replied, my voice sounding a little tired. "But we made it."

He placed a hand on my shoulder, a gesture the crowd quickly captured on their devices. He knew exactly what he was doing.

"I will hand over the crown soon," he stated softly. "Until then, rest. You will need it."

The welcome continued inside as we were led into the large mansion. Warriors stood on either side, greeting us with bowed heads. Servers moved through the space holding trays of food and snacks, and I took a shot. It was early, but I needed to loosen my muscles.

After everything settled, Lara walked beside me toward the private wing. My movements were slow, and she had already mentioned that she noticed I seemed tired, or that I had too much on my mind.

"You should rest," she uttered, lowering her voice as her hand brushed my sleeve. "The schedule can wait."

As she said that, she tried to hug me from the side.

We entered the room together, and I noticed how comfortable it looked, with a large window and a wide bed.

"It won’t be long, I promise," I said to her. "But is it okay if I sleep alone tonight?" I added calmly.

She loosened her hold on me. She searched my face for a moment, then looked away.

My bags had already been placed inside. I reached for one and opened it, taking out my charger while leaving the bag open on purpose. As I plugged it in, my eyes stayed on her.

Her gaze flicked briefly toward the bag, and I noticed the edge of the honeymoon tickets catch her attention, just as I had intended.

Her lips curved into a satisfied smile, and her tone shifted completely.

"That’s fine. You need to recharge," she replied. "Rest well."

She stepped back without complaint.

I closed the door and let out a slow breath. I had bought the tickets only to distract her, to keep her from wanting to stay in the room with me. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

Even after I showered, changed, and lay down on the bed, I could still hear the echoes of celebration in the hallway. Music carried through the walls. People were dancing, celebrating the arrival of a new Alpha King.

Throughout it all, my thoughts stayed with Iris and my children. I missed them deeply.

Then a faint memory surfaced, one where Iris had spoken about my family, about being mistreated. The thought tightened my chest.

I immediately messaged my most trusted friend, my royal beta, Walkin. I wanted him with me during the crowning. I trusted him more than anyone.

But I could not bring him east. I needed him to stay with Iris, to make sure she was safe.

I slept through the rest of the night.

By early morning, groups poured in from every direction. Nobles arrived in fine clothes, warriors in polished armor and uniforms, pack members dressed in their best, and alphas from neighboring packs came with their lunas.

I prepared in a white royal-style long coat with gold embroidery.

As I stared at myself in the mirror, I convinced myself that after today, everything would be normal, especially once I got the last pearl.

There was a knock on the door.

When I turned around, I saw Lara walk in, wearing a golden gown. She had gone all out with her makeup and clothing, but she did not know that none of it mattered to me.

She meant nothing to me. I would not look at her twice once I had saved my beautiful mate.

"Ready for the crowning?" she asked dramatically, bowing slightly while holding her skirt before stepping toward me.

She wrapped her arm around mine, rose onto her heels, and kissed my cheek.

"Let’s go. I can’t wait for our honeymoon, and for everything to start new for us," she urged.

Together, we walked toward the door.
