Alpha's Secret Bride-Chapter 100: Fragile Bond with the Alpha’s Heir
The next day, Emily left her pack house very early. She needed to buy a gift for Ken from the huge crowns of silver her beta gifted her for a job well done and even promised to increase her salary at the end of the full moon, but she didn’t know the best gift to give him that would be good enough since his father is a wealthy high profile alpha also a high fang regent of his kingdom.
She walked into a toy shop and saw thousands of toys. She stood still staring at them, her wolf subtly stirring beneath her skin as if sensing unfamiliar territory. She saw two she-wolves walking towards the cashier. One was holding an item she picked from the shelf and was discussing the item she was holding.
"My little moonpup adores the tactile and squishy texture of this Play-Doh," the she-wolf who was holding the box said.
"My little moonpups love it too, but I hate the crumble and mess they leave behind, so I stopped buying it for them," the other she-wolf said.
"You can always clean the mess. Since they can’t write their stories, buy this and give them the opportunity to create the story by molding their favorite characters and fantastical landscapes," the she-wolf who purchased the item said as they walked towards the exit. Emily went to the cashier and demanded the same item the she-wolves purchased, her instincts guiding her choice.
"Emelda!" The cashier called one of the sales she-wolf. A young she-wolf appeared.
"Please, I need a pack of Play-Doh Magic Box."
"Alright," the she-wolf responded and left. She came back with the pack. Emily paid and left hurriedly, her heart quietly hopeful.
She arrived at the Double Moon Tree Pack House of Minsk seven minutes before time, her steps echoing with purpose. She quickly signed in and proceeded to her department for moonrise instructions. After the address by the Beta, they left for their various posts.
She did not need to knock before entering chamber 609, since she already knew she wouldn’t be asked to come in. She used the spare key and opened the door.
Neither Ashley nor his little moonpup was in the chamber. She dropped the magic box on a table and began to arrange the chamber. She could hear the sound of water splashing on the bathchamber floor, the scent of damp fur faint in the air.
After a few minutes, they came out of the bathchamber totally unclad. She quickly turned and refused to look at them, her wolf retreating in embarrassment. She even forgot to greet Ashley. She turned again and walked towards the bathchamber to clean it when they walked past her without saying anything.
She took all the waste out of the chamber when she was through and gave them some time to have their breakfast and relax a bit before bothering them again.
She came back to the chamber three hours later to spend her break time with Ken. She saw Ken standing close to the table where she kept the Play-Doh and was admiring the pictures on the box. He was so curious to see what was inside the box, his young wolf clearly intrigued.
He ran down to his favorite spot and sat down as soon as he saw Emily. She picked up the box and joined him.
"Hi, Ken," she sat on the floor and kept the Magic box in front of him. He slowly pushed it to her side. She grinned and began to unpack the box. He tried to ignore her, but curiosity didn’t allow him to ignore her completely. He kept stealing glances at the items on the floor.
The Play-Doh magic pack, which came in a range of colors, was perfect for molding a diorama and anything that is moldable. It also came with a catalog with different settings. Emily opened the catalog and began to mold one of the fairy landscapes. She also molded different cartoon characters and designed their peculiar style and attire, her fingers moving with creative instinct. Ken folded his hands and continued looking at what she was doing. She was sure he loved it but couldn’t say it out loud.
"Ken, I’m going to the beach; are you coming with me?" his father asked, buttoning the sleeve of his shirt. Ken looked at him and fixed his eyes back on their little Fairyhouse. Ashley shrugged and left the chamber.
She pushed some Play-Doh to his side and he began to mold his own fairyland and weird creatures. They messed the chamber up totally, laughter almost forming but never quite escaping him. Soon he began to feel dizzy. Emily took him to the bathchamber, bathed him, and put him on his own bed, which was in the Junior Suite. He slept off immediately.
Tidying the chamber up again took her roughly one hour, but she was happy he loved the game and he really had fun. She sat down on the chair and began to wait for his father, her wolf unusually calm. She did not know when she slept off. Ashley patted her shoulder gently when he came back and she woke up. He sat on one of the chairs beside her and she quickly stood up.
"Don’t worry, sit down," he said with a gentle tone. She sat down again.
"He is sleeping, I guess."
"Yes."
"Thank you."
"You are welcome."
"I’m sorry for keeping you waiting. I...I," he suddenly paused and lowered his head. He lifted it after a few minutes and sighed. "Ken is not the only one mourning here," he whimpered, his alpha aura dimmed by grief.
She could see the pain in his eyes, but there was nothing she could do for him. Ken was the only one she could help.
"What happened?"
"My pack suspects my political opponents, but I think somewolf did it to frame my opponents up."
"Oh my moon goddess! She was murdered?"
"Yes"
"My moon goddess!"
"An investigation is still going on and the culprit must be brought to book! No one gets away with murder!"
"Your pack must have a good reason for suspecting your political opponent."
"Yeah, they have. I won the leadership contest because my party had a majority in the parliament and that automatically made me the high fang regent. The minority party wanted me to resign but I declined. When my deceased mate was kidnapped and the wolves that held her hostage threatened to kill her if I didn’t resign, my pack believed my opponents were at work."
"You should have resigned..."
"If they had allowed me to talk to her. I guess they killed her before establishing a communication line with me."
"They are wicked, why would they kill an innocent mother just like that!"
"Yeah, and I’m going to frustrate them. I have the opportunity to choose the number of winters I will serve my pack and I chose three complete decades. None of them will smell the seat!" he said and hit his clenched fist angrily on the table.
"I...I’m just worried about my only moonpup, Ken. I...I..." he paused, lowered his head, and began to weep silently. There was nothing Emily could do. She couldn’t hug him.
"He...will be fine; I promise you that."
"Are you sure?" He asked with a fainting tone. She nodded with determination to try her best.
Ken, who had just woken up from sleep, walked sluggishly towards his father and leaned on his chest. Emily stood up and picked up her key.
"Alpha, please take heart."
"Exactly what I have been doing for the past three weeks. It is not working. A moonally suggested this resting den. He said the sight has healing power and I can attest to that."
"I...should be on my way. My break was over three hours ago and I’m supposed to be home before now," she sputtered.
"Wait," he said and dipped his hand in his pocket.
"Take this for your transport fare."
She looked at the crowns of silver on the table and shook her head.
"Why?"
"I...didn’t work for it?"
"Do you work for all the gifts you receive from wolves?" He tilted his head and fixed his eyes on her. She couldn’t answer the question so she kept quiet.
"I need you to buy more toys and Play-Doh if you are coming to work tomorrow."
"Alright alpha," she said. He lifted the silver and she accepted it. Ken waved at her. She grinned and waved back at him. She was really happy with the little progress he made, her wolf quietly proud.
She met Beta again when she got off the elevator. He smiled at her.
"Honestly, Emily; I’m impressed. With the way you are going, you will likely be promoted before the full moon ends. He is satisfied with your services. Come here. Take this for your transport fare," he handed her enough crowns of silver that could last her two full moons.
"Thank you beta, I’m short of words," she grinned and left happily as she looked forward to tomorrow, her steps lighter. Then, she suddenly heard a tiny voice. It came from Alpha Ashley’s chamber . Ken isn’t sleeping or what? She looked up and saw Ken smiling and waving at her. "What did he just say?"
