Chapter 76: Emma Meets Ronan’s Pack-kins

It was 7:10 a.m. on the fourth moon-cycle. The morning was so dull and still, as if even the clouds were annoyed with her decision to start a new life in a new territory.

She sighed and rolled out of the chamber with a lot of questions for the dull morning. "Where were you when rejection became my companion? Where were you when shutting myself up in my chamber due to fear of rejection became my motto? Where were you when my entire packland crumbled? Rejection is very painful. This is the last rejection I can take! Give way, I want to move forward!" She kept mumbling as she tidied herself up.

A soft wind came into the bath chamber through the window and ruffled the sheer curtains. It was as if the Moon goddess heard her voice and gave her instant disapproval. She walked towards the closet after bathing and got ready to meet Ronan’s pack-kins despite the warning. Her last meeting with a pack-kins she didn’t want to mention was a total disaster. However, she did not care how this would be. It was all for the silver after all.

At exactly 7:30 a.m., Ronan came in, dressed in a perfectly tailored suit and a crisp shirt. The pocket square in his black jacket made him look like John Wick. He smiled and sat on one of the chairs in the resting chamber. She looked at him and turned her head again.

"Moonrise, pretty she-wolf."

She simply waved at him as if she had drool in her mouth that she didn’t want to swallow.

"Did you practice some smiling style?"

"No."

"Why?"

"I couldn’t."

"Let me teach you," he said and moved close to her. He slid his hands under her armpits and began to tickle her. She felt irritated and pushed him away. He landed on the bed and laughed. "We are going to have a male pup soon. Is this how you are going to treat the father of your pup?" He said and continued laughing.

"Until you become a father."

"I have talked to a healer. We will go and see him after meeting my father today."

"Alright," she said and turned to face him. "Shall we?" He looked at her with his mouth agape. "What is it?"

"You are damn pretty!! I love your wolf. I can’t wait to father your pup."

"Let’s go now if you really want me to have breakfast with your father," she said and began to walk towards the door. He stood up and followed her. They entered the elevator and were soon on the last floor.

The customized supercar he came with was different from the one he drove yesterday. They entered the car and drove off. Ronan kept telling her funny jokes apparently to make her laugh, but his jokes sounded like normal discussions in her ear. She didn’t see anything funny in them. He kept trying until they drove into a mighty villa with lots of trees and a luxurious landscape.

Maids in uniform stood uniformly along a walkway that led to the grand foyer of the villa. They lifted a placard they were holding as soon as she alighted from the car.

"Welcome to Stormveil Villa, Emma Greens." She read the inscription on the placard. She stood still and kept blinking rapidly and was short of words. Ronan stood beside her with hands akimbo. He did not stop smiling.

"Shall we?" He gestured. She nodded and led the way as though she knew where she was going. She climbed the small stairs with her eyes fixed on the wall art. She wondered why his pack-kins allowed him to decorate the wall with the name of somewolf he just met yesterday. She guessed he told them they had been courting for a long time.

"Oh my moon goddess!" He whimpered beside her.

"What is it?"

"You are going to ruin everything for me if you continue like this. Please, smile; my father needs to know you were not forced to do this. Keeping your face expressionless will make them think I picked a random she-wolf and begged her to pretend to be my fated bride."

She tried to fake a smile, but she couldn’t. He rolled his eyes and they continued walking.

"Emma!!" Two she-wolves came towards her with open arms. Their faces were full of smiles.

"Moonrise, she-wolves," she greeted and forced a smile. She saw the disappointment on their faces as they exchanged glances. Apparently, the smile was not enough for them. One of the she-wolves took her hand and led her to the kins’s feeding table. He gestured her to a chair.

"Emma, we are happy to meet you finally. He has been gushing about his mysterious fated bride. No one had seen her. Thanks to my alpha who figured out a way to make him do the right thing," an old she-wolf said. She guessed she was his mother.

"Figured out?" She asked. The she-wolves grinned and one of them sitting close to her patted her shoulder.

A young pretty she-wolf joined them. She looked at her and frowned.

"Emma, right?" The she-wolves nodded with grins. She stood quietly and hugged her wolf.

"You are welcome. I like her already," she said with a shrug as she walked back to her chair. Her face was full of smiles.

"I like you too," Emma said with a low tone and an unsmiling face as though she meant the opposite of what she had just said...

Soon, some she-wolves in chef’s attire began to come in with the breakfast. She stared at the device she was holding, it was a few minutes past eight.

At exactly 8:30 a.m., Ronan and an octogenarian joined them. She figured out it was his father and she stood up to greet him. He waved at her immediately and gestured to her. There was silence in the feeding chamber as the pack-kins ate. The meal before her was quite strange.

However, she saw the way they were eating and began to eat in that manner. Ronan’s eyes were on her, but she tried to avoid his eyes. She knew what he was trying to communicate. She had tried several times, but she couldn’t. His kins didn’t seem bothered, so she wondered why he was bothering himself.

"What’s your name again?"

"Emma!" Ronan and her chorused.

"Ronan, please allow her to answer my questions."

"Alright, father."

"He told me your name yesterday but I forgot it this morning," he said, and fixed his golden eyes on her. She didn’t know what to say, so she kept quiet.

"I like you; do you know why?"

"No."

"You are not desperate. I see no desperation and pretense in your eyes. Some desperate she-wolves will keep showing off their teeth just to impress me, but you are just yourself."

Ronan, who had been looking at her, looked down and faced his food.

"Thank you, alpha."

"You are welcome."

His response was followed by another silence. The octogenarian lifted his head and looked at her again after a few minutes.

"I’m Alpha Stormveil."

"Emma Greens."

"Ronan said you are a Santorinia."

"Yes, alpha."

"What do you do for a living?"

"I...I’m a writer," she said and began to cough. The question walked her back to a life she was about to give up.

"I’m sorry," a she-wolf she presumed was Luna Stormveil said and gave her a glass of water.

"Thank you."

The cough stopped after a few seconds and they continued eating.

"Are you okay?" Alpha Stormveil asked. She nodded as she wiped her lips with a face napkin.

"I was mad at Ronan for opting for a low-key mating rites with so much haste. I hope he is not doing it to get into my will," Alpha Stormveil said and they all laughed except Ronan and Emma.

"When is he doing the low-key mating rites?" Luna Stormveil asked.

"He said tomorrow."

Luna Stormveil frowned and looked at Ronan.

"Ronan, what’s behind the urgency? Is she pregnant?"

"Nothing, mother, we just decided last night."

"Emma, are you in support of that?"

She lifted her gaze, all eyes were on her. She became confused and nodded woodenly.

"My dear, you need a society mating rites. He is the first he-wolf and will be getting mating bond for the first time. His father had been looking forward to this!"

"Mother, we have already decided. We are opting for a low-key mating bond and that’s final," Ronan said and his mother shrugged.

"Whatever, as long as you give us an heir," Ronan’s siblings said. "We have one nephew and two nieces; we need more."

"Of course, we are going to give you an heir," Ronan patted his sibling’s shoulder, looking at Emma seductively.

"Good news Ronan, I like your fated bride and I’m going to include you in the will I’m about to write today!" Alpha Stormveil said and stood up to leave. Ronan jumped up from his chair and hugged Emma’s shoulders. All the wolves at the feeding table laughed loudly. She tried to force a smile again, but she couldn’t. She shamefully lowered her head.

Ronan led her to the mega sitting chamber. He grabbed the remote, switched the vision hearth on, and joined her on the chair. She expected him to bring out the deal for signing since his father had accepted her, but he did not.

"I booked an appointment with my healer. We will see him at 9:00 a.m."

"Why?"

"The heir we talked about."

"I want to see Paige first."

"Alright, we will drive down to Fang Sentinel headquarters and see her before going to the healing den."

"Let’s go now. It’s almost nine," he said and dragged her up. They hopped into his car and soon were on their way to the Fang Sentinel’s station where Paige stayed for the night.
