Chapter 9: Growing Expectation

Finally, they left the general knowledge section. Next, there was a vast amount of information about the laws that shaped blessings. Darian skimmed through one of them and realized that the knowledge from his own book was just as good—if not better. He wasn't even surprised anymore; that story would be his greatest guide.

So, they moved on to the Jade Slips containing blessings.

There were no power restrictions or divisions—any Spiritual Guardian could read whatever they wanted. However, it was impossible to study more than one blessing.

There was an endless sea of options to choose from, but Niara calmly explained:

"Since there are so many, everything has been divided based on the class of the Spiritual Guardian to make things easier."

"Class?" Darian asked, confused.

She nodded. "There's nothing written about it here because it's not that relevant. Summoners are your partners, and we don't form large groups. But in your universe, you all team up for other things, right? According to the records left behind, to make organizing your teams easier, these classes were established. So, blessings are sorted by them for convenience."

She explained that there were five classes: Support, Fighter, Mage, Tank, and Mystic. These were based on the type of blessing and combat potential.

In short, Fighters focused on dealing damage in direct combat. Mages, on the other hand, specialized in ranged attacks. Tanks were the opposite of Fighters and Mages, built for endurance and defense, able to charge into battle and survive for a long time on their own.

Support focused on helping allies in any way possible. Meanwhile, Mystics had abilities that didn't fit neatly into any of the other categories, making them versatile and strategic, with the potential to adapt to any situation.

Darian understood. It made everything more structured and helped build a combat framework back on Earth.

While he was thinking, Niara was already in the Support section. She was convinced that Darian had a rare blessing—the kind that healed wounds.

She stopped and asked, "What do you really want?"

"I don't know much about my blessing. After all, I didn't learn it from something that already existed, like everyone else. Show me the ones that can heal like mine." Darian said calmly.

She nodded and moved toward the back of the library. After searching with the silver emblem of a Summoner, only three Jade Slips were found among the thousands in the Support category.

Only those three were directly related to healing. The rest were Support-type but focused on things like creating barriers, providing buffs, and so on.

Darian read their names: **Blessing of Regenerative Acceleration, Blessing of Transmission and Vital Absorption, and finally, Blessing of Purifying Light.**

"These three are extremely distinct and complex healing types. They've existed for a long time, and almost no one has been able to use them. They're considered near-legendary blessings among Summoners," she said, full of expectations, not sure which one was closest to his.

Darian quickly skimmed through each introduction. Their names weren't random—they did exactly what their titles suggested. Within seconds, Niara turned toward the colorful slug, confused—she could tell he was stunned.

"I... My power does all three at the same time." He muttered seriously.

She widened her eyes, sensing that he wasn't lying. Her blood ran hot, and she clenched her fists, excited. Was this real? It was hard to believe.

During the test, Darian had fought while healing himself with that white power. At first, his body just regenerated insanely fast. Then, he learned to create a subtle light layer that seemed to purify and weaken enemies. The absorption was exactly what he did when devouring them—but in a different way. Transmission... he had never tried it, but he felt like it was perfectly possible.

Since there were no restrictions, Darian read all three thoroughly. This should help him refine his abilities. But... he quickly realized that these blessings were fundamentally different from his.

Even at their peak, as described by their creators, the difference was absurd. On top of having limits, users had to circulate their power in an extremely complex and time-consuming way, sometimes taking hours to fully heal someone.

Meanwhile, Darian could do it in seconds—and all three types at once if he wanted.

"Well, now I know I shouldn't use my full power in front of others for a while. I better try to match the time these guys took with their technique or something like that," Darian commented.

Niara didn't get it, but she didn't ask why. Their relationship was built on trust, but they had only known each other for less than a day. It would be too much to expect them to share everything so soon.

They left the library casually. That old man never showed up again, completely ignoring them.

Outside, Darian asked thoughtfully, "Do you need to train or do anything after being stuck for days? Or maybe we should focus on equipment? I don't know much about how you fight."

"No, I don't need anything." She answered without hesitation. "I was born with a mutant body, and my Divine Dragon bloodline fused completely into me. When I get serious, no one in my universe can fight me alone and live to tell the tale."

Darian was surprised. Now he understood why everyone feared her so much.

"But even though I'm really strong on my own, against a Summoner and their Spiritual Guardian... if they had even just one formed ring, I'd lose easily. And against the Risen..." She hesitated for a moment before continuing, "If I take even the slightest wound from them, I'll get infected and become one of them forever."

Darian sighed. This universe only survived because of the Spiritual Guardians.

On their own, the natives could only rely on their physical strength—for some reason, they couldn't use any kind of complex power. The blessings from the Spiritual Guardians were the only way to tap into the laws of this universe to fight.

And the Spiritual Guardians didn't help for free. They used this place as a training ground.

But when Darian stopped to think...

Did the people from his universe even want to get rid of all the Risen?

Wouldn't it be better to keep part of this population alive so the Risen would keep appearing and the power farm could continue indefinitely?

Darian sighed bitterly. In the end, he was sure this universe would never change as long as it depended on the Spiritual Guardians.

Maybe there were a few good people who genuinely wanted to help, but he wasn't naïve—those people had to be a minority, and their isolated efforts wouldn't change anything.

"If your bloodline makes you strong, then wouldn't armor or some kind of magic clothing be useful?" Darian asked, trying to push those thoughts aside. He was still too weak to worry about that right now.

"I can cover my whole body in scales, and that's stronger than any armor," Niara replied casually, but a hidden glint passed through her eyes. "Don't worry about me, I'll be the impenetrable front line. Now that I'm a Summoner, our focus should be on you—if you get stronger, I benefit too."

Darian nodded and started thinking about their next move. They had a little over three days left, and every other Spiritual Guardian below one ring was completely focused on solidifying their chosen blessings.

They didn't need to waste time on that. That was their advantage, and they had to use it to prepare in ways the others wouldn't have time for. This first battle would be decisive, and even a small edge could turn into something huge.

"This planet must have a massive marketplace, probably the biggest in this universe, right?" He asked, and Niara nodded. "Summoners use their earnings here to buy useful things, so there should be anything and everything for sale."

That's when the obvious problem hit them: neither of them had any money. That had to be their priority now—getting resources.

Darian started thinking hard about a solution, analyzing everything he'd seen since arriving for the test.

Niara stayed quiet. She wasn't the type to think too much about strategies or the future; she preferred to live day by day and follow her instincts. Since Darian was going to be a support and watch the battles from behind, it made sense for him to take the lead and make the decisions.

Besides, she still didn't know exactly what he was capable of. Her curiosity was growing since she practically knew nothing about him. So she decided to wait and see what he would do.

This was a relationship that was just beginning. They both needed to keep testing each other to understand their limits and expectations.

It didn't even take two minutes.

That colorful slug suddenly jumped onto her shoulder, like he had just remembered something important. Niara turned to look at him, feeling a rising sense of anticipation.

"What do people do with the weapons and bodies of the Risen?"
