Amber Sword-Chapter 827 - 146: Rock Garuru Beast!
If it were his old squad's hot-tempered members here, they might have unceremoniously driven the others away. Erune players' dislike for the Cruz Empire truly came 'from the heart'.
So when Count Oting spoke up like this, Brand was even a bit stunned, casually glancing left and right: "Aren't they here?"
"No." Count Oting shook his head, "Actually, we've been looking for them for quite a while, but Miss Faina and Viscount Elman are nowhere to be seen."
"Not here?"
Brand found this a bit odd; wasn't that bad-tempered girl supposed to be with them all along? Yet when faced with his questioning gaze, Caglis, Melia, Antitina, Kulan, and Qian all shook their heads one after another.
No one knows?
Brand felt even more strange, so he called Ropa—the Lizardman Lord and his subordinates had been responsible for perimeter watch since they entered the Black Forest. If anything happened on the outskirts, they would be the first to know—but unfortunately, the answer he got from Ropa was also negative.
In other words, since they stopped to rest, Elman and the others hadn't left the camp. Otherwise, Ropa and its Fireclaw Lizardmen subordinates would have definitely noticed.
But there is another possibility.
That is, Faina and the others were already lost before then.
But then it becomes truly interesting, though Brand isn't concerned about whether these people would get lost, but rather finds it hard to believe that a few living people could actually lose track of the group without anyone noticing.
Even if that lady is somewhat useless, Viscount Elman and that young alchemist by her side don't seem to be incompetent, right?
Finally, at Antitina's suggestion, Brand sought out Furlo, the most attentive and cautious among them, to see if this older sister among the Wild Elf siblings could notice any clues.
Unexpectedly, Furlo brought them even more shocking news.
She had also been looking for her sister.
Tiya was missing?
Brand's first reaction was that it was impossible. Tiya was one of the Twelve Rubis Mercenaries, a part of his card summoned creatures. The mind connection between them made it impossible for the summoned creature to be lost without him knowing.
Yet when he immediately sensed the other's location in his mind, his expression changed.
Even the mind connection, which the Black Forest couldn't cut off, failed for the first time!
By Martha, what kind of script is this?
...
Meanwhile, as Brand was taken aback, that bad-tempered noble daughter in his eyes was stumbling through the thorny forest with her two companions.
Several times, she almost tripped over protruding branches, barely maintaining her composure thanks to the help of the black-haired alchemist boy. Nonetheless, her beautiful dress was already torn to shreds.
Looking down at her ragged outfit, resembling a beggar's, she couldn't help but feel a surge of anger, naturally blaming it on Brand—if it weren't for that country bumpkin, how would they have ended up here?
Moreover, when the Fog Howl conjured the mist, that guy actually didn't notice they got lost in it! That guy is obviously so powerful, he must have done it on purpose!
Faina thought angrily to herself, wishing she could stab Brand through with a sword if he were in front of her right now. Unfortunately, not only was Brand not in front of her at the moment, but even if he were, she wouldn't have the ability to do so.
After grinding her teeth for a long while, the noble daughter finally couldn't help but ask: "Viscount Elman, how much longer? Didn't you say we'd catch up soon?"
She asked a little feebly; it wasn't the first time she had asked this.
Elman was also slightly helpless; although glancing at Lono beside him, thinking this was a good opportunity many times now, yet he just wasn't in the mood—it didn't make sense, he clearly remembered Brand and the others went this direction, how could they not catch up after chasing for so long?
He was sure that the Erune and his subordinates would stop to rest. Otherwise, he wouldn't choose to pursue them.
As for turning back to try and rejoin with Veronica Commander, he had thought about it, but simply lacked the courage to carve a bloody path through the wolf tide again.
So this Viscount had to shrug and reluctantly persuade himself: "I think maybe they intend to walk a bit further before resting, since here is still too dangerous, being so close to the wolf tide."
Thinking of the endless wolf tide, his expression turned, realizing he had underestimated the Black Forest's dangers, regretting agreeing to this mission in the first place. With Veronica, the War God of the Empire, he had thought nothing could go wrong.
But no account was taken of this lady being too willful.
"But you've said that several times already," Faina protested, "I can hardly continue."
Hearing this, Elman couldn't help but feel a bit dissatisfied, taking a deep breath he retorted: "You should ask the little girl behind us, didn't she say she could contact that Erune?"
Faina was taken aback, involuntarily looking back at Tiya who was struggling to keep up—she remembered this little girl was with that detestable Erune country bumpkin—and she did tell them she had a way to contact Brand, only she had yet to succeed even once.
"Communication spells in the Black Forest are disrupted by magical turbulence," Lono replied, "It's normal for them to fail. If we didn't have a Quartz Block, we wouldn't be able to reach outside the Black Forest either. But Quartz Blocks are fantasy-like existences, not something everyone can get."
"Considering that," Elman answered dissatisfiedly, "we should leave her behind. Bringing a little girl is only slowing us down."
"Viscount Elman," Faina frowned, "As an Imperial noble, how can you say such a thing? Would you abandon a child?"
Elman was stunned, glancing at the noble daughter and then at Lono, seeing dissatisfaction on both faces. Stunned, he promptly corrected himself, "Sorry, I lost my composure."
Faina was about to say more when suddenly a voice from the forest interrupted her—
"Haha, you little ones, about to meet your end yet still arguing, how amusing."
This abrupt voice swept through the forest, causing a brief stillness around.
