Chapter 848: Chapter 156: Hostage? (Part 2)

The battle left an extremely deep impression on Mephisto.

So when he saw Brand today, he didn’t plan on letting him speak voluntarily. The Gray Sword Saint snorted coldly: "If you don’t want to speak, then come with me. I believe Veronica won’t ignore the empire’s future genius like you."

Though he hadn’t seen Brand’s swordsmanship, the command level this young man showed when confronting the Winter Wolf was enough to deem him a genius.

"Wait—!" Brand, seeing the Gray Sword Saint lifting his giant sword without a word, felt the grey cloak swirl, as if an invisible wind pressure was coming for a direct assault. His scalp tingled, eyes narrowed, and he quickly slid back like a ghost.

Mephisto intended to seal Brand’s retreat, making it easy to capture him among these people. Yet, Brand retreated so swiftly, as if predicting his move.

Brand cursed silently; when the other made a move, his ’In-depth Analysis’ skill yielded no response—meaning the opponent’s swordsmanship skill level was so high it exceeded the skill level’s prediction limit.

’In-depth Analysis’ had some use against Veronica even when she wasn’t going all out, showing the gap between them.

In terms of Absolute Strength, Gray Sword Saint might be slightly lesser than Green Sword Saint Veronica, but in a real fight, Veronica might not be a match.

Veronica’s swordsmanship reached a pinnacle, a top rank among Extreme Sword Saints. But Gray Sword Saint Mephisto was already beyond human in players’ eyes, and if he deserved any title, it would be Sword God.

Brand avoided this sword purely because he studied this Sword Saint’s attack habits during tasks for the Black Iron Body mission several times. Knowing that he wanted to capture him, Mephisto wouldn’t strike lethally. With experience and savvy, he avoided the attack before it landed.

If Mephisto was determined to slash down, even Brand’s level rank couldn’t withstand the sword Qi splitting him in two.

Still, Brand only managed this one dodge. After this retreat, he couldn’t evade a second sword from the Gray Sword Saint.

He knew what the opponent would do next, but his limited abilities meant he could only watch himself be defeated.

As he retreated, he saw Mephisto with an unchanged expression, a slight pause, then swiftly swung his sword to the right—a ’swish’ sounded as a white crescent-shaped sword Qi emerged. Strangely, the sword Qi neatly arced along the ground, curving ’whoosh’ behind Brand as if with eyes.

Secret Sword? Dragon Strike—in the past game, countless players succumbed under this sword, including Brand. The turning technique of the sword Qi wasn’t mastered even at Warrior Level 130, not even heard of outside the twenty styles the Gray Sword Saint created.

Seeing the Gray Sword Saint lead with a big move, Brand felt helpless. He couldn’t just dive in head-first—Brando didn’t feel eager to heroically sacrifice himself—he paused, sealing his fate.

Mephisto anticipated Brand’s move, retracting the giant sword, lunging with a thrust, sword and all, towards Brand.

This thrust swallowed Brand’s second ’wait’ back down, the young Lord facing the fierce strike felt an unavoidable suffocation.

In the Gray Sword Saint’s plan, Brand had no choice but to meet with sword, yet in weak-versus-strong fights, direct combat was inadvisable. If the above was suppression, the next sword would be the deciding factor.

Knowing this, Brand had no options, thoughts racing to find ways to break the dire situation.

In that instant, a voice, unforgettably familiar, sighed slightly: "Huh?"

It was the Female Knight’s voice; the Gray Sword Saint’s aura woke her from slumbering danger sensing, only to find Brand in peril.

"Unseen swordsmanship, but this guy is strong," Otarais lazily stretched, watching Mephisto’s sword thrust, asking calmly due to rapid mind interaction speed: "Little guy, how do you find trouble everywhere?"

Brand felt speechless, thinking was this trouble he sought? It clearly came to him, and the Gray Sword Saint, naturally oblivious, didn’t give him a word before the attack.

Damn—is there no justice?

At this point, Brand had no leisure to heed the older sister’s teasing; the thrusting giant sword almost reached his chest. He could only parry with the Earth Sword.
