America 1982-Chapter 622 - 139: Do Me a Favor_4
"Then you go earn that money, why call me?" Tommy asked suspiciously, "The only time you call me over the years is when you need to spend money."
"Because America damn well discriminates against soldiers. It stipulates that U.S. military personnel cannot earn these bonuses, meaning if I tell the Federal Government about this intelligence myself, they won’t give me a cent. They’ll tell me it’s my duty. But if a civilian reports it, they can get a reward. Pam counts as military too, so he can’t be involved. You’re the only suitable choice, which is why I hope you call the State Department or the Pentagon to provide the intelligence, corroborate with an informant to prove that the hostage location is real, and then claim those rewards," Dennis said.
"That’s how it is, just a phone call and we could..." 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
"I’ll think about it." Tommy hung up the phone, tossed his cell to Sophia, "Five million dollars, do you want to earn it? Believing his bullshit is worse than believing SSD is a student organization that supports racial equality."
Just as Sophia caught it, the phone rang again. Tommy rubbed his forehead, "If I ever run into Charles, I must have his father-in-law help pick out a strong boss for Dennis, that bastard, to watch him 24/7, and if he dares to abandon his post, just shoot him..."
"It’s not Dennis, it’s Susan," Sophia said after picking up the call, then turned to Tommy.
Tommy took the phone, "Susan, had a nice chat with your professor? What’s she busy with... a hostage scandal? Someone mocking the President, the former CIA director, in the newspapers for not being able to locate hostages? What hostages?... You’re not kidding? Shit~... I’ll hang up now, we’ll talk later."
After hearing just a few words from Susan, Tommy immediately hung up and dialed Dennis’s number back. Dennis answered, "You need this long to think about something like this? You..."
"Dennis, you are the ray of holy light in my life. Do me a favor and check if one of the nine hostages mentioned by your informant is named Ricky Higgins, working for the United Nations peacekeeping force," Tommy quickly interrupted Dennis before he could complain any further.
Scrolling through his documents, Dennis said, "There is. The data I’m helping with the registration shows this guy’s from Kentucky, a rotten product of the Marine Corps."
"Are you sure?" Tommy’s breath even involuntarily paused when he heard Dennis confirm.
With a tone of certainty, Dennis said, "Absolutely sure. This guy’s price tag is one million, which means just rescuing this person would earn America a million-dollar reward."
"I’m asking if your damn informant is sure about the hiding place having this person, not the reward list," Tommy said dissatisfiedly to Dennis, "I want to know if the real hostages include this person!"
"Informant? Glen! Is your shitty informant reliable? Reliable? You helped smuggle his wife and kids off to Turkey? Helped smuggle them to Turkey? Sorry, I misheard. I didn’t realize you could be so kind, but I’m also curious, after seeing so much history of your ancestors being trafficked, haven’t you ever thought about using the same method to get revenge on this world?" Dennis had a word with Glen on the phone, then he spoke to Tommy:
"Glen says he’s extremely reliable, he’s helped the guy get his wife and two kids to Turkey to enjoy a safe life."
"Keep getting more concrete information from the informant, wait for my call, don’t rush things, and don’t worry. Even if the America Federal Government breaks its promise and doesn’t give you the reward, I’ll make it up to you," Tommy said and hung up, then called Susan again:
"Tell your teacher, her boss, the former CIA director, she doesn’t need to worry about being laughed at in the newspapers for not finding a living person anymore. I can do her a little favor."
