America 1982-Chapter 647 - 150: The Best Birthday Gift
Los Angeles, outside the Beverly Hills Estate, Hawk’s Nest.
A police car with its lights flashing was heading towards the gates of Hawk’s Nest along the road. As the siren sounded, some of the neighbors who lived in Beverly Hills with Tommy stepped out of their houses and looked in the direction where the police car was driving towards Tommy’s mansion.
They knew that Tommy was hosting a feast today to celebrate the arrival of his daughter to the world, and they had all received small gifts personally prepared by the mistress as an apology well in advance, regretting the noise that might occur today. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
To be honest, the gifts looked quite sincere, and thus they all chose tolerance. Everyone could understand Tommy’s joy at having a daughter; and even if they couldn’t, they were willing to be accommodating on account of the gifts.
All the gentlemen in the entire Beverly community had received a bottle of fine wine worth collecting and a box of cigars as gifts, while the ladies had received a small coin purse from a luxury brand and a pair of pretty pearl earrings. The residents here didn’t think that expensive gifts were necessarily good, but a gift given with sincerity made them feel respected by the other party.
Therefore, they could accept the noise coming from Tommy’s house due to the celebration, but that shouldn’t include the roaring of wild beasts, such as now, when half of Beverly Hills could hear the damned elephant trumpeting coming from Tommy’s home!
Tommy Hawk’s home had a small family zoo, which everyone was aware of, and some had even been invited to visit before, but those animals were all harmless and cute. The community had not approved of him keeping an elephant.
So, the neighbors chose to call the police, and let them investigate what exactly was happening. Did Tommy’s girlfriend give birth to an elephant or what?
Two Beverly Hills Estate Police Station officers stopped their car at the roadside, turned off the siren and the flashing lights, then got out and headed towards the main entrance of Tommy’s home. They were familiar with Tommy, who was the largest private owner in Beverly Hills, owned the largest private residence in the estate, and was also the largest donor to the Los Angeles Police Foundation in the Beverly Hills Estate area.
"I mean, if that Mr. Hawk who’s being complained about really did bring an elephant to keep in his zoo, how would we explain to those celebrities that we’re powerless against the elephant issue?" a young officer holding a cup of cola and biting a straw asked his partner.
The older officer chuckled, "Why should we explain? These rich folks if they want to have an elephant must have legitimate reasons. They’ll never give us the chance to arrest them on charges like animal abuse."
"Officers." Next to the gate that was wide enough for two trucks to drive side by side, a young man in a suit emerged, smiling and greeting the two policemen, "Good afternoon, is there something I can help you with?"
The older officer scanned the surroundings, and the young officer took the other as a valet hired by Tommy for the day, "We received a complaint about an elephant screaming inside. We’ve come to investigate."
As if aware that police had come to its rescue, a trumpet of an elephant was indeed heard from inside again.
The young officer shrugged at the young man, "Did you hear that?"
"Of course, there’s an elephant inside seeing the dentist. Just like humans, it makes some painful noises when undergoing dental treatment," the young man replied without any intention of letting them go inside and continued smiling, "My suggestion is, let it receive the treatment without disturbance."
"I think it’d be better if you contact Dorothy right away, the female housekeeper of Tommy’s house, instead of standing here like a self-righteous fool, obstructing police business," the young officer leaned forward a bit, trying to physically exert pressure with his body language.
Although he had never met Tommy, he had encountered Dorothy, the mansion’s housekeeper, when she had called the police after the neighbor’s children came to visit the zoo, started playing hide and seek, and one naughty boy hid so well he wasn’t found until Dorothy resorted to calling for police assistance to coax the boy out after not wanting to waste time searching over a hundred rooms with the boy’s parents.
The young man took two steps back, raising his hands, "Whoa, easy there, officers. Please allow me to slowly lift the hem of my suit."
The two officers nodded with their hands on their gun holsters. The young man slowly lifted the hem of his suit jacket to reveal a holstered gun at his waist, its holster bearing an FBI badge gleaming in the bright California sunlight.
"FBI." The young man smoothly took out his ID from his suit pocket and handed it to the officers, "I’m not sure why you’re here, but I must say, the FBI has its own arrangements for everything happening inside today. To avoid any potential impact on the FBI’s plans, I can’t let you go inside to check on the elephant right now. Officer, maybe you could find a reason to tell those neighbors to be more patient."
After checking his ID and even calling their station to confirm his identity with the FBI, the officers returned his credentials. The older officer looked towards the large private parking area in the distance, now filled with luxury cars bearing license plates from various states, with a dozen or so obviously security personnel overseeing the area.
"What has Mr. Hawk’s girlfriend given birth to for him, exactly? The next President of the United States?" the senior officer asked the young FBI agent.
