America 1982-Chapter 658 - 3: Cue Retirement Ceremony
At 5:59 am, just before the alarm was set to go off, Tommy opened his eyes with lingering sleepiness and took in the room before suddenly sitting up in alarm: "Shit!"
He glanced at the long-haired, disheveled woman lying next to him who was still deep in a good dream, her arm resting on his lower abdomen.
She was the German woman he had met at the party after sending Sophia away last night, whose background was unclear; anyway, she wasn’t an unknown German actress neighbor in Hollywood trying to make it big in Beverly Hills, nor was she the parent of a classmate of his son. This woman, having had a few drinks, was in a bad mood. When Tommy came over, she lamented to him about some life issues. However, Tommy didn’t remember, he only recalled that this woman in her early forties was not wearing a wedding ring and then they both had a few drinks and rolled into bed together.
"Wake up, lady!" Tommy flicked off the blanket covering her and urged her to get out of bed.
As he lifted the blanket, her full figure was revealed, and Tommy couldn’t help but whistle at the sight, then reached out his hand and fondly gave her heavy bosom a firm squeeze: "I can’t believe I missed out on this wonderful scene last night."
"What’s the matter?" The woman opened her eyes lazily, looked at him once, and then closed her eyes again, pushing away Tommy’s hand that was on her chest, and said with a German accent, "Go find that first German woman you talked to me about last night. I don’t mind. You’re a man of your word, and I am satisfied, now don’t bother me anymore and let me have a good sleep."
At that moment, the double doors to the bedroom were pushed open from the outside. The woman, who had all intentions of continuing to sleep, was immediately startled by the sound of the door opening, grabbed the blanket to shield herself, while Tommy let out a frustrated sigh and resolutely sold out his bedmate, "It was this lady who said she wanted to come to this bedroom... not me."
An elderly lady in her seventies with gray hair and spry steps entered. She wore plain and old-fashioned clothes and held a set of men’s jogging outfit in her gloved hands, expressionlessly looking at the man and woman in bed: "Jenny’s husband’s mom would hate you if she knew."
Noticing the unfriendly expression on the lady’s face, the woman slapped away Tommy’s hand that was still fiddling under the blanket and asked in a low voice, "Is she... your mother?"
After all, when Tommy chatted her up last night, he said he was only fifty. The woman looked at Tommy’s well-kept face and sturdy muscles, and did not doubt that Tommy was actually a sixty-year-old man old enough to be her father; rather, she always believed he was a peer with a negligible age difference to herself.
"Worse than that, my mother only took care of me, but this lady... has breastfed many people in my family." Tommy withdrew his hand reluctantly and greeted the old lady, "Good morning, Dorothy."
The person who came in was Dorothy, the grand housekeeper of the Hawk’s Nest who had taken personal care of Tommy Hawk, his daughter Genesis Hawk, and his grandson Leo Hawk, and had served the Hawk family for forty years.
Dorothy pressed a button, and then the curtains of the bedroom’s floor-to-ceiling window slowly opened. Morning sunlight shone in from the outside. She hung the jogging outfit to the side and began tidying up the room as if nobody else was there: "Good morning, sir. The branch manager of the California bank would like to have breakfast with you after your morning run." 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
Tommy climbed out of bed naked and dressed for the run, asking, "Why?"
"They broke the ATM you had installed at home last night, influenced by your suggestion. They used various tools for over seven hours to crack it open, proving the power of physics, and took more than eighty thousand dollars from it for today’s expenses, while you promised last night to cover the bank’s loss," Dorothy waited for Tommy to get dressed and prepared him a cup of water, then took a pillbox out of her pocket.
Tommy nodded, not denying it: "I remember now, I told them sitting in front of the computer playing games isn’t as fun as working with one’s hands. Whoever could crack open that ATM could keep the cash inside as a prize, but remember to remind them this little game is only allowed at my house. I don’t want to see a bunch of young nerds smashing ATMs on the streets of Los Angeles today."
"They’re visiting the California Institute of Technology today." Dorothy handed Tommy the pillbox and water.
"Ah, the high-energy of an eighteen-year-old is great." Tommy took the pillbox and swallowed the pre-meal health supplements with water, then walked out of the bedroom, waving goodbye to the still stunned German woman on the bed before he left, "You can keep on sleeping, but you’ll need to switch rooms... this room... just change to another room quickly, goodbye."
Tommy disappeared outside the door, and the German woman on the bed eyed Dorothy who continued tidying up: "Hello? Could you let me get dressed before you come in to clean up?"
"Just ignore me, as I’m doing right now." Dorothy glanced at her.
The woman shrugged in resignation, then dropped the blanket covering her without any shyness and began to get dressed: "Is this room yours?"
"No, it once belonged to another German woman." Dorothy eyed the woman with a playful expression: "So, your presence here is quite interesting."
"Correction, I’m just of German descent. After coming to the United States for college, I applied to become an American," the woman, unable to stand being scrutinized with such playfulness by another woman, hurriedly got dressed and left the bedroom: "Goodbye, ma’am."
