An Owl's Rise-Chapter 465 -
The moment Evelyn released the magic she had been building up, she went flying forward like she had been shot out of a cannon.
Never before, in either of her lives, had she moved this fast. And despite her excellent vision as a tyrant rank owl, her surroundings blurred together as she rapidly accelerated.
Fortunately, she had already accounted for this and was keeping track of her target using her wind magic. Whenever she moved slightly off course, she would subtly adjust the direction of her magic to keep on target.
By the time the Deamhain Sect Executive noticed her approach, she was already just a dozen meters away.
Still, while Evelyn was moving at a truly impressive speed, it only appeared as relatively fast slow motion to him.
However, as he attempted to step back to avoid her charge, a web of thin metal wires blocked his path.
Rehni had been attempting to entangle him in a trap since she joined the battle, and with his attention split between Evelyn, Lucia, and Aralee, she had finally been able to ensnare him.
Of course, her metal magic, while subtle, lacked strength. It only held the man in place for a fraction of a second before he ripped through the wires.
This was enough, though.
Evelyn had finally reached him, and with a roar of fury, she jabbed the blazing spear in her hands forward.
As a last attempt to protect himself from the fierce attack, the Deamhain Sect Executive conjured a small, but dense barrier of pure magical energy to deflect Evelyn's thrust.
When the two forces met, for just a moment, they seemed evenly matched. Then, Evelyn's Aionia Estia broke through, and the star-shaped blade headed directly towards her enemy's heart.
Before the weapon even reached, the crimson fire surrounding it burned through the man's clothing and licked his flesh.
To both Evelyn and her opponent, this single instant felt let it dragged on for hours as their wills clashed.
"Ahhhhhhh!"
At the last moment before he was pierced through, the Deamhain Sect Executive reached out with the hand that had been injured earlier by Lucia's attack and grabbed ahold of Evelyn's spear.
Immediately, the heavenly flames ate away at him, and the skin and muscle that composed his arm burned away.
Nevertheless, this desperate move saved him from a fatal strike.
Aionia Estia's blade sliced across his chest and left a deep gash that reached all the way down to the bone, but it missed his heart.
Unable to stop or adjust her explosive momentum at a moment's notice, Evelyn went flying by and had no chance to try and attack again.
Her full power strike that she had put everything into had caused major damage, yet, she had failed to slay her enemy.
Like a meteor, she continued flying forward and needed several seconds to slow herself down and turn around.
When she looked back towards where the others were, she saw that the intense battle had already resumed. Lucia was doggedly attacking the man, while Bylur, Rehni, and Aralee supported her.
Without worrying about the intense pain racking her body from pushing herself beyond her limits, Evelyn flew back to join her companions.
'Gravity Hammer.'
On instinct alone, the man dodged Evelyn first attack as she returned to the battle. A massive crater formed in the ground where he had been standing as an intense gravitational force suddenly appeared.
Showing no restraint, Evelyn cast her powerful gravity magic over and over again and kept the man running. If he got caught by it, his greatest weapon, his speed, would be heavily diminished.
"I thought I recognized that thing. How in the world did you get ahold of it?" The Deamhain Sect Executive said as he dodged a ceaseless barrage of magic attacks.
His eyes were on the Aionia Estia, and he was looking at Evelyn with a newfound wariness.
Her weapon truly was famous. Being a national treasure of one of the current era's great powers.
Of course, instead of answering, she pointed the weapon towards the man and unleashed an immense burst of flames.
'I really can't let him get away now.' Evelyn thought, chasing after him as he darted around.
She could not match her earlier acceleration, but by changing the direction of her own gravity and compressing flames and air to essentially create jet propulsion, Evelyn relentlessly pursued the Deamhain Sect Executive.
The only other one that could even remotely keep up with their opponent was Lucia. Bylur, Rehni, and Aralee were stuck using their magic to create obstacles to limit the man's options.
However, at the rate they were going, the five of them would wear themselves out long before their enemy.

He was more than an entire rank higher than four of them, and even far outclassed Lucia. His injuries did not diminish his stores of magical energy, and so long as he continued to avoid them, eventually one of them would exhaust themselves.
'Fortunately, I've finished now.' Evelyn thought, coming to a complete stop.
At the same time, Lucia, Bylur, Rehni, and Aralee likewise halted their advances and waited for what would happen next. Already privy to Evelyn's plan since she had shared it with them through wind messages.
"What's this, are you giving up.? Finally, realized that you can't beat me." The man said, a smirk on his face.
"No, you've been caught. All that's left is for us to crush you at our leisure."
Hearing Evelyn's response, he scoffed. Believing it to be a ploy to make him overly cautious.
So long as he focused on evasion, there was nothing any of them could do. He had been surprised a couple of times, but he was taking this battle seriously now. He would not let his focus slip again.
"Okay, then go ahead do whatever it is you have planned. I'll just continue avoiding everything you send my way. It won't be too much longer till one of you runs out of magical energy. Then I'll take you down one by one. Or you can try and get away, but I'll just catch up to you and wear you down that way."
Even in his current state, with a horrible cut on his chest, and one of his hands burned to a crisp, the Deamhain Sect executive still retained his confidence. He would not allow a mere five tyrant rank beasts to best him.
With an almost imperceptible gesture, Evelyn signaled for Bylur to attack.
A volley of icicles flew towards the man, though, he hardly paid them any mind.
To him, they might as well have been moving as quickly as softly falling snow.
Except, when he moved only a few meters away from where he had been, a sudden glyph appeared in the air.
An unexpected force launched him upwards and backwards.
His mind moving far faster than what the normal person's could, he tried to figure out what had just happened.
It felt similar to the magic Evelyn had used on him during their one-on-one fight, but he had been carefully observing her to make sure he never missed her conjuring her unusual magic. He was certain that just now, she had not done anything.
However, he did not have much time to ponder the situation, as he had been pushed back into the path of Bylur's rain of icicles.
