An Owl's Rise-Chapter 467 - Turning Point (2)
When Evelyn finally came to, her entire body felt sore all over, and she was in total darkness.
It took her only a moment to realize she had been buried on a mountain of rock and dirt.
She was unsure of how long she had been out. It could have been only a moment, or even several days.
"That bastard used some sort of weird magic to blow everything away. If he had a trump card like that, why did he keep it hidden that long?" Evelyn grumbled as she forced herself up.
She was well and truly exhausted at this point, but she still had enough magic energy left to cast a few spells.
Fortunately, the Aionia Estia was still firmly held in her grip, and using the transcendent weapon, she pierced through the soil above her and fired a massive pillar of flame all the way to the surface.
As air rushed in from above, Evelyn gathered it under her feet and lowered the gravity around her.
With one push of wind, she went flying out of the hole she had created and soon was hovering in the sky.
"This is horrible."
Evelyn's face grew pale the moment she saw the widespread devastation around her. freewebnσvel.cѳm
For as far as she could see that the surroundings had been absolutely destroyed. The greenery, animals, and everything else was gone. Replaced by a landscape riddled with fissures and mountains of earth piled high.
Seeing this level of destruction, Evelyn was once again reminded of the monstrous levels of power individuals could wield in this world. She had been rapidly increasing her own strength, but this was still far beyond what she was capable of.
'I need to find the others. Hopefully everyone survived and that man left already thinking that we all died.'
Fortunately, Evelyn was able to locate one of her companions fairly quickly. However, they were currently in the worst position imaginable.
Aralee was unconscious and draped over the Deamhain Sect Executive's shoulder like a sack of potatoes.
Ever since she revealed that she possessed the same type of magic as the man, he had shown a twisted interest in her.
"Gah, this has been one of the worst experiences of my life. At the very least, I was able to retrieve this one. I'm going to be the envy of the other executives when they see what a cute little pet I picked up that wields momentum magic just like I do."
Even from several kilometers away, high up in the sky, Evelyn could hear what the man was saying since she was having the wind bring the sound to her.
'Not again. I won't let anyone take my family away from me again!' Evelyn screamed internally.
First her mother, then her brother during her original life.
After that, her new parents. And most recently, Otis. She had lost those she cared about over and over again.
Having miraculously reunited with her siblings in this world, Evelyn would not accept the same tragedy that had befallen her so many times again. This time she would overturn the terrible fate that seemed to follow her relentlessly. Right here, and right now.
"I don't care if your damaged, or I'm too weak. I don't care if it fu*king breaks me. You're supposed to be a divine item. A powerful artifact from a higher plane of existence capable of turning this world on its head. So, I'm taking what you owe me right now, you stupid Aethersphere. Give me the strength to save my little sister."
Evelyn allowed her soul, her entire being, to rage.
Channeling her emotions into the Aethersphere, she imposed her will over the incomprehensible magic item that had bonded with her.
It had given her immense strength and caused her all manner of problems. And in this moment, she was going to force out some of its true power she had felt once before when she consumed the unleashed potential potion.
In response to Evelyn's determination, the divine item was forced to act.
Within it was a great amount of magical energy it had been storing to repair itself. And Evelyn was going to use it.
Along with the tremendous power also came far greater control over gravity.
So far, the divine item had been slowly giving her more spells as she grew, but at its core, the item was capable of much more. It possessed the essence of gravity itself. One of the four fundamental forces of the universe.
As Evelyn forced out more and more of the Aethersphere's power, the Deamhain Sect Executive became aware of her presence.
He could feel the waves of transcendent magical energy rolling off her. At this moment, she was pushing herself to reach a level beyond this world.
"It couldn't be!"
A sudden realization came over the man as his eyes were locked onto Evelyn in the sky above.
The highest priority mission given to every member of his sect was to locate and retrieve the divine item that had slipped out of their hands.
Naturally, he had been informed that an owl was in possession of what his sect leader was after, but it had now dawned on him that any of the beasts he had encountered might be this individual. Not until now. Evelyn's display was all the proof he needed.
"If only I hadn't activated the seal." The Deamhain Sect Executive grumbled.
With a quick glance at his right arm, he saw a pattern that looked like a tattoo slowly crawling up his body. His second magic affinity had been deemed too dangerous to be freely wielded and Diomed had placed a seal on him to restrict his powers.
When he had felt backed into a corner, he had unleashed this magic at full power despite knowing the consequences. Now, he would not be able to use it again, and all of his abilities were being limited as a result.
"I'll just have to take what information I've obtained back to the other executives. Plus, this one should know something as well."
Tightening his grip on Aralee, the man turned towards the Deamhain Sect and prepared to rush back using the limited magic he could currently wield.
Yet, as he took his first step forward, he felt a heavy tug pulling him back.
It was not him that was being pulled though.
An intensely powerful force was yanking on Aralee and attempting to drag her away from him.
"I won't let you have her." Evelyn growled, her magic growing in power by the second.
Soon the force was too great for the Deamhain Sect Executive to fight against, and he felt his feet starting to be pulled off the ground.
He tried to grip onto Aralee tighter, no longer worrying about damaging her, but he found his hands suddenly repulsed.
Some sort of gravity shell had formed around her body, and anything that attempted to interact with her was blown away.
At the same time, Evelyn's intense gravity magic had spread out even farther. Loose dirt and rocks were lifting off the ground and flying towards her. She had become an attracting force far stronger than the usual gravity of this world.
Even the Deamhain Sect Executive could no longer escape the pull now and was being dragged across the ground as he tried to dig his hands and feet into the earth to anchor himself.
Had he been at full strength he could have easily gotten away, but he was injured and exhausted from the battle with Evelyn and her companions. Also, the seal placed upon him was weakening his abilities.
Realizing how perilous his situation was, the man created a shield out of pure magical energy and used it to brace himself down. This was the same trick he had used to avoid flying off into the sky when under the effects of Evelyn's lessened gravity.
No longer being ripped away from the ground, the Deamhain Sect Executive activated his magic and began to run. Things had gotten far too out of hand for him to deal with it any further. His only hope was to escape.
However, as he was finally close to exiting the range of Evelyn empowered gravity field, a sudden weight crashed down upon him.
It was similar to Evelyn's normal gravity hammer but far stronger and at a much greater range.
"No, you're not getting out of her alive." Evelyn said, her arm outstretched and glowing with a deep purple energy.
At the same time, a horrid creaking sound rang out and the bones inside of her arm shattered.
Her flesh was torn apart in hundreds of places and blood started gushing out of the wounds like a flood.
She was tapping into power that was far too strong for her to handle, and even as the world seemed to bend to her will, it was destroying her.
Obviously, she knew that this was going to happen. She had already accepted it. Right now, all that mattered was utterly obliterating the man that had threatened her loved ones.
