Ancestral Lineage-Chapter 78: Opening Ceremony. Clash of Tyrants.
"Welcome back to school, students. For some reasons, the principal couldn’t grace us with her presence. But I assure you, she will be here in our next gathering in the future." a tall, 7-feet-tall dark-skinned man with grey hair and piercing blue eyes said with calm smile. He was Master Festus Rawclaw, the assistant head of the academy and he was also claimed to be werewolf. He was also said to be as strong if not stronger than the principal.
"Today we welcome all the first years, now second years officially into the academy. On that note, all facilities which weren’t eligible to you will be starting from now. I mean the training centers, the main library, the techniques pavilion etc. You will have access to all these and many more. Also, on the principal’s command, the new Tyrant, Ethan Smith’s title has been modified a bit. He will no longer be the Tyrant of Telekinesis but the Tyrant of Psychics. The reason, you will all see for yourself in the coming days.
The last thing on the dot is the outing. This time round, everyone would be participating except for the fourth years. This is to help train and improve upon your skills and also prepare you for the upcoming inter-schools’ tournament and student exchange program with other continents. As the best school in Anbord and the face of the young generation in Anbord, we have the most important and difficult job of all. The outing will be in one and a half month. Further information will be sent to the school’s platform.
On this note, I bid you an interesting academic year and welcome once again, our new second years. Oh, and the Tyrants will be having a short meeting after this. Good luck!" Just like that, Master Festus was done, and he left the stage. Murmurs erupted after he left, obviously based on the information he just released to them. Some also centered around Ethan.
"I guess I have to go. See you later in the classroom." Ethan sighed as he got up from his seat. He could sense an incoming headache and he kind of knew where it was coming from.
"Okay! See you later then. Can I get a kiss..." Clara said while adding the latter part in a quiet voice with a massive blush on her face.
"My pleasure." Ethan smirked while giving her quick kiss on the lips, in front of everyone. Such a bold move! It was quite the declaration as the air around the left part of the hall turned chilly and snow started to fall.
"Don’t get into trouble, okay?"
"You know I don’t have a tendency for that."
"Yeah yeah. Like we would believe you." Trevor chimed in, destroying their flirting.
"But..."
"Get the hell out of here dude! I will protect her."
"Promise!"
"I promise. Now fuck off before I turn into an ice cube!" Trevor exclaimed as he felt the chilly bite his skin. Everyone around that place had already escaped earlier, leaving him to fend of the chilly air attack from a very irritated Leon, the Tyrant of Ice. Ethan nodded with a small grin, adjusted his spectacles and stood in front of Trevor. An invisible pressure burst from him, shielding all of them from the chilly air but what shocked them the most was how the chilly air was getting pushed back and the powerful pressure they felt radiating from Ethan.
All the while, his face was calm, too calm almost cold and it was like he wasn’t even trying while the perpetrator of all this, Leon was almost ready to explode. Before it could escalate, a much more powerful pressure filled with dread dropped on both of them, more on Leon.
"Is this how a Tyrant acts? Attacks a fellow Tyrant out of nowhere and doesn’t care for people around?" A calm voice filled authority rang out. Looking towards the sound of the voice, everyone gazed upon one of the calmest, almost invisible Tyrants, Lamair Griswold. His blue eyes had turned a shade of pink while he released a suffocating pressure.
The witnesses to this event were first shocked of Ethan’s display of power and more so over Lamair’s display of power. He wasn’t ranked 7th for no reason.
"Tch!" Leon scoffed in annoyance.
"Hey big brother Lamair!" Ethan exclaimed while waving at Lamair.
"..."
"Let’s go. The others are waiting. See you later guys!" Lamair said to Ethan and the others as headed to the Northeast side of the hall. Ethan hurriedly followed after him, leaving Leon basking in shame and embarrassment.
...
"Thank you all for coming. This meeting is very important but before that, let us welcome our new member once again. Ethan, the Tyrant of Psychics." Fang Ren, the strongest and rank 1 Tyrant said.
All: "Welcome!"
Updated from freewёbnoνel.com.
"Good. Now let’s get to the matter at hand. As we all heard from Master Festus, the inter-schools’ tournament and student exchange program is due and from my sources, we have at most 4 months to prepare. The time can be shifted however the higher ups see fit, but the average time limit is 2 and a half months. The reason I called you all here today is because of the message the principal gave to me." Fang Ren continued, adjusting his monocle a bit, his green eyes glowing slightly.
"Message?"
"For us?"
"Yes. The message is and I read."
"Dear Tyrants, if this message gets to you, take with utmost seriousness and make it part of your many priorities.
First of all, I would like to inform you of the change of title for the new Tyrant. Instead of Tyrant of Telekinesis, he will now be referred as the Tyrant of Psychics. This, you might probably be aware of.
Now to the crux of the matter. As the outing, inter-schools and student exchange programs are all coming off, you the Tyrants will be at the forefront of all this. To start this, all Tyrants will be placed in charge of students of their year groups. I know this will inconvenience some of you, especially the only Tyrant in the second year. Because of this, a duel would be held after 2 months to select new Tyrants for the second years.
Also, the normal routine to become Tyrants still holds, this new one is just a bonus addition and a temporal method to get Tyrants to support the Tyrant of Psychics as he’s the only one in his year group.
Off with that, each Tyrant is required to select strong subordinates in 2 months with exception of the Tyrant of Psychics, who has 2 and a half months. These subordinates will make up the main team along with you for the upcoming programs while substitutes would be chosen by the school.
Also, the outing will be an indirect competition for all Tyrants. There will be hidden items and hidden objectives which you would be required to discover. There will be no given clues. The use of special groups too is allowed but the main objective is to do a reshuffle the rankings a bit. Some of you have become too lazy to move up the ranks and some of you too have become too arrogant. The outing will end with a battle royale for all Tyrants where the last one standing will be the winner.
The other ranks will be determined by how long you lasted in the battle. And this time round, there will be no exceptions. Whether new or old, you are expected to partake.
Thank you and good luck to you all."
"So, this is the message and the task we have been given plus our usual task." Fang Ren ended, adjusting his monocle again as he took his seat at the head of the table. They were in a small conference room, sitting around a long rectangular table. The seat opposite Fang Ren was empty as that was the seat reserved for the principal or any of the higher ups whenever they wanted to have a meeting with the Tyrants.
"Any questions?" Fang Ren asked. Almost instantly, a hand shot up and no one was surprised by who it belonged to. They were rather either exhausted with this or curious.
"Yes Leon?" Fang Ren called with an exhausted expression on his usual cold face.
"I don’t get why the new Tyrant is getting all these benefits. Think about it. We all had to follow the usual procedure when we were initiated, with no excuses or leeway but here, he’s getting off with almost every task assigned to us. Don’t you think it is suspicious?" Leon said with a huge smirk while staring mockingly at Ethan.
"Honestly speaking, I also don’t like this..."
"Then why aren’t you doing anything? You could always file a report to the principal letting her know that we do not like the terms and the blatant favoritism." Leon said, his tone rising and dripping with disdain.
"Please may I talk?" Ethan suddenly said with a calm voice, causing looks of interest to appear on everyone’s faces.
’Hehe! He bought the bait. Now I will make sure to humiliate you till your eyes turn red.’
"I believe you know why we are here Tyrant Leon?" Ethan asked with a still calm voice causing a bit of unease among them, even Leon.
"What do you mean?"
"This is an official letter from the principal. It isn’t some personal letter or some friendly letter. It being official means it was vetted and approved by the staff, and we got our part of it." Ethan said.
"But we can still report in case we find any problems with it."
"I know but do you have that problem with me, the principal or the staff?"
"What..."
"You talk of blatant favoritism but let me ask you, if you were to accomplish a great feat and you were denied rewards, will you be able to take it?"
"Obviously no."
"Exactly! Did you become a Tyrant in your first year? No. Did you become a Tyrant because a Tyrant hates you because you are a commoner and the crush of a noble lady that Tyrant likes? Did you become a Tyrant by fighting someone a level higher than you with a path and still come out almost victorious? Obviously, you didn’t experience all these neither have you experienced what it means to be a commoner.
You just got to awaken when you were of age and you are still at the Advanced level but here, I am, a commoner, who awakened less than 3 months ago, on the same level as you. Don’t you think this is deserving of a reward?" Ethan asked with a calm smile which caused chills down Leon’s spine. For a moment, he caught a glimpse of Ethan’s eyes glow red.
...
In the end, Leon lost the case but that wasn’t why Ethan was smiling as exited the conference room with Lamair. When Leon started his act of revenge, a bonus quest was issued ordering him to defend his dignity and pride. The reward was a Silver Gift Box.
With his first battle won and rewards reaped, Ethan headed to his class alongside Lamair. They conversed along the way with Lamair giving Ethan tips on what the Tyrants do.
It looked like the semester was going to be filled with interesting stuff and he couldn’t wait for them!
