Chapter 214: Chapter 192: Zaboru Date with Ayumi
Sunday, February 23, 1992
On Sunday, Zaboru continued working as usual, focused on his projects despite the fact that his February game releases had just launched the day before. He hadn't yet received detailed reports on how they were performing, but he wasn't overly concerned. He had confidence in the quality of the games, and if any issues arose, he would take them as learning experiences to improve future projects. His mindset had always been to analyze, adapt, and grow, rather than worrying unnecessarily.
As he typed away at his desk, Ayumi suddenly entered his office. Like always, she visited him on weekends, and she had been particularly busy lately planning new game ideas. Just yesterday, she had spent hours brainstorming in his office, and now she was back, brimming with fresh concepts.
"Zabo, I'm here!" she called out cheerfully.
Zaboru looked up and smiled. "Hello, Ayumi."
Without wasting a moment, Ayumi sat down and pulled out her notebook, flipping through pages filled with scribbles and sketches. "Zabo, I've been thinking about my new game. Can you take a look at my script, story, and gameplay?"

Zaboru was intrigued. "Sure. Is it still related to bunnies?" he joked.
Ayumi's eyes lit up. "Yes! Of course! My studio is called U-Bunny, after all. And I love bunnies very much!"
Zaboru chuckled. "Heh, true. Even your underwear has a bunny logo on it."
Ayumi's face turned red as she playfully pinched him. "Zabo, you pervert!"
He just laughed, then took the notebook from her hands and started reading.
Game Name: Ultimate Bunny Race!
Lore: In B-Unny Planet, a world inhabited entirely by bunny people, society thrives on one thing—sports, especially competitive bunny racing! Different rabbit races exist, each with unique elemental abilities. The most famous are:
Flame Rabbit Race: Flaunny
Water Rabbit Race: Watunny
Wind Rabbit Race: Winunny
Thunder Rabbit Race: Thuunny
Rock Rabbit Race: Rockunny
A legendary group of bunnies exists that possesses five elements, making them the ultimate racers!
Gameplay: A character-based racing game inspired by Excitebike, but instead of motorcycles, players control bunnies that run, jump, and use their unique elemental powers to race through dynamic tracks. Players can choose from five starting characters:
Flaunny: Flann
Watunny: Anna
Winunny: Kierr
Thuunny: Barrnie
Rockunny: Gobo
Each character has different stats and abilities. (PS: Detailed abilities are still in progress—I'll think about them later!)
Zaboru finished reading and looked up, impressed. "You're actually thinking of a racing game with character-based mechanics... Seems like you were inspired by my Sentai game and Excitebike combined, huh?" He smirked. "Cheeky! But I like it. This is what I call referencing! Your idea is really interesting, Ayumi. Keep developing it."
Ayumi beamed at the praise. "Heheh, well, I'm learning from the best, after all!"
Zaboru leaned back in his chair. "Are you planning to publish this under ZAGE?"
Ayumi shook her head. "Nope! Like I said before, I want to release this through Nii-sama's company, Akaishidan. I want to grow into a great game developer properly, without relying on your company too much."
Zaboru nodded approvingly. "I get it. That's a solid plan. If you do it right, this game will be a fantastic addition to the ZEPS library."
He reached out and patted her head, making her smile as she rested her head on his shoulder. "You're really not greedy, huh, Zabo?" she murmured. "You genuinely want the gaming world to evolve, don't you?"
Zaboru grinned. "Of course! That's what it's all about, after all."
Ayumi shifted her position, sitting up excitedly. "Now, what do you think the abilities of each character should be?!"
Zaboru smirked. "Alright, let's brainstorm."
They spent the next hour bouncing ideas off each other, discussing different abilities that would make each character unique. Flaunny's fire-based speed boost, Watunny's ability to slide across water, and Winunny's powerful jumps were just a few of the ideas that emerged. They debated balancing issues, track design, and even multiplayer features, refining Ayumi's vision into something even more engaging.
This was the usual dynamic between them. Even though they only met once or twice a week due to their busy schedules, their time together was always filled with excitement and creativity. Their shared love for game development made their relationship special, and working on ideas together never felt like a chore—it was simply what they loved to do.
As the evening rolled in, Ayumi stretched her arms. "Zabo, let's go eat something. I'm hungry!"
Zaboru looked at the clock. He had been so absorbed in their discussion that he hadn't realized how much time had passed. "Yeah, let's go. I know a good place."
They left the office and headed to a cozy restaurant nearby, chatting about game ideas, industry trends, and random silly topics along the way. Over dinner, Ayumi teased Zaboru about his latest game projects, while he playfully pointed out how obsessed she was with bunny-themed games. The conversation was lively, filled with laughter and the occasional playful argument.
After dinner, they took a stroll through the park, enjoying the peaceful night atmosphere. Ayumi suddenly grabbed his hand and swung it slightly. "Zabo, do you think I'll be able to make a game as successful as yours one day? even surpass you?"
Zaboru squeezed her hand gently. "If you keep pushing yourself the way you do, I don't doubt it for a second. Beside i think your last game Karate Bunny is solid game and i don't even kidding, but to surpass me is lot of work hehehe"
She smiled brightly. "Hehe, then I'll work even harder! , i will Surpass you one day! Video Game Developer Master!"
They continued their walk, talking about everything and nothing, simply enjoying each other's company. Moments like these made their relationship strong—not grand gestures, but the simple joy of understanding and supporting each other's dreams.
Eventually, they reached Ayumi's place, The Hamazou HQ. She turned to him, eyes twinkling. "Thanks for today, Zabo~"
Zaboru smirked. "Anytime."
She leaned in and whispered. "Next time, let's go on a real date, okay? Not just game talk all day."
He chuckled. "Alright, alright. I'll plan something."
With one final smile, Ayumi waved goodbye and disappeared inside. Zaboru watched her go, hands in his pockets, feeling content. Then, with a deep breath, he turned around and started heading back to his office.
Tomorrow was another day, and there was still much work to be done.
