Chapter 886: Killing the Tier 7 Mutated Beast

Clovis managed to send forth a sword strike, but for some reason, the strength suddenly depleted rapidly, turning it into a normal Overlord Slayer.

Bang!

The deer let out a cry, but the Overlord Slayer only produced a small wound instead of cutting the legs.

"!!!" Clovis widened his eyes in surprise. This was outside his calculations. He thought he could take down those legs, causing the deer to fall in his direction.

However, the deer ended up enduring it. Its body was swaying a bit, but it managed to stabilize its form.

The deer kicked Clovis, but the latter managed to jump up, barely dodging the kick. The deer skillfully pushed down its legs, which caused the ground to shatter.

Clovis’ balance would be thrown off by the sudden change.

"Clovis?!" Kanaria noticed something was wrong. After fighting alongside him the whole time, Kanaria realized that Clovis actually wanted to cut the two right legs instead of injuring them.

"Don’t worry." Clovis reassured her. Although it was indeed unexpected, the plan didn’t have to change. Besides, this was a lesson for him. His skill hadn’t reached the level where he could send that killing intent forward.

He might be able to send it a bit, but that power rapidly diminished. It was something he hadn’t noticed during his previous attacks. The Overlord Slayer he used earlier was from 10 meters away, but from his observation, the power would disappear after 1 or 2 meters. This was why he could cut the antlers but not the legs.

The deer planned to use the time Clovis’ balance was off to smash him with the other leg, but Clovis used his speed to jump toward the deer’s head instead.

Clovis released his killing intent on his sword, swinging it at the deer’s head. The deer was intelligent enough to figure out Clovis’ power. It arrived at the same conclusion about the fact that Clovis’ powerful strike couldn’t travel far.

Seeing Clovis swing his sword down, the target was obviously his head.

But the beast chose to get hurt a bit in order to trap him.

The beast didn’t move its body. Instead, it tilted its head to the side. This way, Clovis would continue in this direction and hit its body instead.

Since it could only travel such a short distance, the deer might suffer some heavy injuries, but it could kill Clovis for good. The trade was worth it.

If its opponent were anyone else, the deer would have succeeded. But Clovis’ reaction speed was the fastest of anyone in the group.

The moment he saw that the sword wouldn’t harm the deer, he slightly spun the handle of his sword, directing the sharp edge of the blade back to the deer’s head.

However, the deer was convinced that no matter how much Clovis struggled, he couldn’t change the direction of the swing.

But what the deer didn’t realize was that from this killing intent, Clovis learned something. The sharpness of his blade reached a whole new level thanks to this power. In that case, he just had to rely on it rather than focusing on momentum or strength.

So, Clovis swung his short blade toward his long sword, giving the push that the long sword needed to reach the deer’s neck.

"!!!" The deer widened its eyes, not expecting Clovis to find a solution. The next thing it realized, the slash reached it as a massive wound formed on its neck. The wound was deep, causing blood to spurt out.

This attack confirmed his theory about the sharpness of his blade. The killing intent indeed brought the sharpness to a whole new level.

Even though it lacked momentum and strength, the blade could leave such a big and deep wound. If it were at full power, the deer would have died.

The deer seemed to know this as well. The moment Clovis landed on its body, the deer knew that Clovis could jump toward its neck to give another slash.

So, it was trying to escape.

"Head. Now." Clovis ordered.

Kanaria had been waiting for his order. She slightly adjusted her aim and fired at the other side of the deer’s head. The impact caused the deer’s head to sway in Clovis’ direction.

Clovis smiled. He had been waiting the whole time. Now that the head returned, Clovis jumped to the wound on the neck and swung his blade again.

Overlord Slayer.

Clovis used the Overlord Slayer at point-blank range. Since he could only use it for one or two meters, he had to do it this way. Besides, it was far enough to cut the deer’s neck.

Kanaria dropped her jaw. Even she couldn’t help but feel surprised. Clovis indeed killed the deer in three exchanges.

It was clear that there had been a mishap earlier, but Clovis’ adaptability was top-notch. He recovered and improvised his plan and ultimately killed the Tier 7 deer by himself.

While she, Jay, and Christina had done their part to wear down the deer, they couldn’t hurt the deer that much.

Clovis did it. Almost by his effort alone, he could kill a Tier 7 mutated beast, which might be even stronger than the average Tier 8 beast.

"He did it." Kanaria smiled.

Clovis exhaled a few times. He really did it. However, both of his hands were in pain. It wasn’t produced by the clash of his two blades alone. It also stemmed from the killing intent.

The killing intent sharpened his sword, but that residual energy was also harmful for everything around it, including his hands that wielded it.

He got a picture of what the second phase of the Abyss State was all about. If he controlled the killing intent, he could turn this double-edged power into a refined power that was only useful to strike his enemy.

"It looks like I need a lot of training after this. There is also that event in five months." Clovis muttered.

He just endured the pain in his arms so as not to worry the others. "We’re done here. Kanaria, Ragna, Luci. Let’s help the others."
