Chapter 119: Friend Against Friend (1)

"IRENE LUIS AND ATLAS SHOREKEEPER TO THE ARENA!"

Atlas and Irene looked at each other the moment they heard this announcement. Not only the two of them, but every single person in the waiting room was thinking about what was going on.

The power difference between Atlas and Irene was enormous. It was impossible for Irene to even imagine beating him right now.

Still, the answer was obvious.

"I think Lady Cordelia and the others are trying to have fun," Atlas said, and then stood up and offered Irene his hand.

"Let’s go, dear friend," Atlas muttered.

Irene took a deep breath and then stood up, taking Atlas’ hand in hers. The two of them headed towards the exit of the waiting room together, and when they stepped into the white area, they teleported into the huge arena.

As the two teleported into the arena, Atlas looked directly towards the main dais, where the Sages and others were watching the matches, and saw the excited smiles on both Cordelia and Bellatrix’s faces.

"Damn it..." muttered Atlas.

At the other end of the arena, he saw Irene, who was obviously very excited and worried at the same time, and then he said, "Let’s have a good match, my dear friend."

These words of Atlas silenced the whole arena.

No one thought that the two friends would face each other.

"Should I give up?" Irene suddenly questioned. With these words, Atlas shook his head left and right, and just as he was about to say something, Bellatrix’s voice was heard throughout the coliseum:

"Irene. If you can show me your potential, if you can stand in front of Atlas for a minute, I will take you as my personal student."

When these words echoed throughout the coliseum, not a single applause, not a single cheer, not even a single sound of shock managed to escape from anyone.

Sages did not take students easily, and personal students were never in their position. Even though they had many students throughout history, the difference between personal students and normal students was as great as the difference between hell and heaven.

A personal student had the right to enjoy all the benefits of the professor who had directly chosen him or her if the professor so wished.

In part, a personal student would actually be like the child of the person who had chosen him or her.

Irene’s potential was enormous. The person who knew it best here was Atlas himself. There was only one thing left for him to do in this situation.

For just one minute, Atlas would fight in a low-attack situation and pretend as if Irene could resist him.

Just as he was starting to smile at these thoughts, Cordelia’s voice rose from the coliseum:

"Atlas. Don’t you dare go easy on Irene. Use all your power, everything you have, and try to kill the young girl for one minute, that’s a direct order."

With these words, the smile on Atlas’ face fell.

[A direct order].

It was a type of order that existed with the full use of personal teachers’ powers. Even if it could be used with a few very simple words, it could even be seen as a duty.

In short, if Atlas didn’t do his best, he would be subject to punishment, and on top of that, he would have destroyed the huge opportunity Irene had with his own hands.

He couldn’t afford that.

Atlas could not betray Irene, perhaps the person he trusted the most in his life, in such a way.

On the other hand, Irene was a first-year student. If he was too hard on her, it could negatively affect her psychology and even degrade their friendship.

He did not want to risk it.

Still, there was no way he could refuse a direct order from his personal teacher, much less from the first Sage himself.

"Yes, Professor," Atlas said instantly. He turned towards Irene, unable to wipe the strange concern from his face. It was enough to tell Irene how much Atlas cared about her.

"I’ll do my best, please don’t hold back, Atlas," Irene said, and as the referee took his place, it was as if an hourglass countdown was signalling the countdown itself.

Irene had already begun to swirl her own mana around her body. The young girl’s hand was wandering around the area where her potions were.

The referee raised his hand in the air, and Atlas at that moment took his holy sword out of his inventory and held it tightly.

The referee’s hand instantly descended and the sound of "GO!" rang through the coliseum.

Irene instantly pulled out every single potion on her waist and threw two of them instantly onto the arena floor.

Atlas hadn’t even moved from where he was, knowing that if he attacked Irene directly, he could take her head off.

"CRASH!"

The moment Irene’s potions hit the arena floor, it was fog again. There was something different this time, though.

The mist was green in colour. It was really interesting that Irene was doing something like this.

Atlas couldn’t help but smile. Really, it was fun to go against his old and best friend.

"Poison." he thought instantly.

It was brilliant. It was perhaps the only thing that could defeat Atlas right now. Well, of course, since Atlas’ predisposition to the poison element was not known, everything looked like this to outsiders.

The poison would affect him very slowly, but even that was enough.

Even now, Irene had managed to show everyone how detailed her thinking was.

Atlas didn’t wait at all and chose not to hold back, just as Cordelia had ordered him to do:

"Sword of Tranquillity," Atlas said.

He increased the auras in his body to an insane level and started running at full speed, choosing not to use the abilities he had received from Gaia, such as Dead Plains.

Orders were orders, and Atlas didn’t want to disobey them. Especially if that order was sent by Cordelia.
