Chapter 50: Race Against Time (2)

After the duo entered the eastern passage, they increased their speed even more. With each step, they left traces of mana behind them.

Before long, they arrived at the area where the students were staying.

Led by Elise, Atlas reached Kris’s room in a short time and immediately kicked the door.

"PAT!!!"

The loud impact echoed through the corridor.

Elise sighed, shook her head, and pulled Atlas aside before saying, "You know we have a key, right? I’m the co-leader of the committee." She then unlocked the door.

As soon as the door clicked open, Atlas kicked it again—this time stepping inside with a strange sense of pride.

At that very moment, a massive fireball came hurtling toward him. Instinctively, he raised his palm and shouted, "Air Slash!"

As if wielded by an invisible sword, the fireball split cleanly in two, its flames vanishing into nothingness. That was when Atlas finally laid eyes on Kris.

Without hesitation, he lunged forward and commanded, "Freeze!"

A wave of magic surged toward Kris, but he swiftly pointed his wand at it. A spell erupted from the wand, and Atlas’s attack shattered like glass, its fragments falling to the floor.

Atlas took a few steps back, positioning himself in front of Elise.

"Sixth-Grade," he muttered calmly. He had been foolish to underestimate Kris’s value to the Order. Not only could Kris cast non-verbal spells, but he could also conceal the extent of his power.

"He destroyed my magic. It’s a sixth-grade spell. It’s next to impossible to neutralise it, so we’ll have to squeeze it until Professor Abraham arrives. Prepare a spell that won’t affect me." Atlas said suddenly, in as small a voice as possible.

Elise nodded her head in understanding and took a few more steps backwards, closing her eyes.

It would not be wrong to say that Elise trusted Atlas completely. She trusted someone she had only met two weeks ago, but now was not the time to doubt herself.

The fact that Kris remained composed while wielding such strength was enough to confirm that he was at least a mid-ranking cult member.

This made him truly dangerous. He was nothing like Amber.

"Two magicians with three magic rings. Did they send you to hunt me down?" Kris scoffed. "You do realize I’m not that weak, don’t you?" freёweɓnovel.com

As he spoke, he extended his left hand while still keeping his wand trained on Atlas.

Atlas and Elise followed his movement—and then they saw them.

Three girls lay in a pool of blood at Kris’s side.

A single glance told Atlas they belonged to the rare vampire race.

"Maybe you’re not even worth that much to the academy, you piece of rubbish. Tell me, who put you in charge, Bishop Lucius or Bishop Orion?"

The smile on Kris’s face seemed to suddenly fall. He was clearly surprised that a boy like Atlas knew the names of these two men.

That’s the way it was supposed to be. The number of people in the world who knew their names at the moment did not exceed a hundred, even within the sect.

Still, Atlas refused to even wait for Kris to speak.

Without waiting more, he lunged forward, fully aware of what was about to happen. He didn’t even know why he was doing it—heroism no longer meant anything to him. He had no desire to save people he didn’t care about, especially humans.

The room was enormous—far larger than a standard dormitory. In fact, the distance between Atlas and Kris was roughly three hundred meters.

Atlas couldn’t help but feel irritated that expansion spells were being used in academy rooms, but that wasn’t his immediate concern.

As he charged, dozens of razor-sharp ice needles shot from the tip of Kris’s wand at an incredible speed.

Atlas could see them clearly—one of the strongest spells a Sixth-Class mage could cast was now flying straight at him.

The room’s temperature plummeted at an alarming rate. His breath became visible in the frigid air.

Despite the overwhelming sense of danger clawing at his instincts, he was used to it. In fact, every fiber of his being trembled with excitement. Someone stronger than him was trying to kill him again.

"Sight," Atlas murmured.

A glowing mark appeared on Kris—a lock mark. It was proof that the ability had been activated.

Without missing a beat, Atlas whispered, "Sword of Tranquility," and summoned the holy sword from his inventory.

All of this happened in a mere ten seconds.

With his blade in hand, he struck at the incoming ice needles one by one. However, his strength wasn’t enough to shatter spells cast by a Sixth-Class mage. The deflected shards embedded themselves into the walls around him.

"Ching!!!"

"Shing!!!"

Atlas was being forced backward. His gaze flickered between the bloodied vampire girls, their torn clothes and bruised bodies making their suffering evident, and Elise, who was still preparing her spell behind him.

He had to move faster.

Berating himself for not thinking of it sooner, he remembered that he already could increase his speed.

How could he have overlooked the gifts bestowed upon him by the goddess Nyx?

"Superview," he thought.

Without needing to say the ability aloud, his vision sharpened. Everything became clearer, more vivid, and easier to comprehend.

It was as if the adrenaline surging through him no longer clouded his thoughts. His mind—and more importantly, his eyes—were now processing every movement with perfect clarity.

Immediately after, he activated Goddess’s Fury, enhancing all of his abilities by 60%, and brought Night’s Step into play.

In just ten seconds, Atlas had tripled his previous speed.

He was no longer being pushed back. While his strength remained the same, his newfound speed allowed him to meet every ice needle head-on, striking them aside with his holy sword before they could reach him.

Step by step, he was closing in on Kris.

Meanwhile, Elise seemed to have finally finished her spell.

Now, they just had to keep Kris alive until Professor Abraham arrived—and save the three vampire girls.
