Apocalypse: After Being Reborn, I Stocked Up on All Supplies-Chapter 87 - : The Clinic in the Office Building
Chapter 87: Chapter 87: The Clinic in the Office Building
After having looted the big and small jewelry and watch stores in the core area, Jiang Yan gradually swam towards the surface.
However, she did not immediately emerge; instead, she took out a periscope from Space, extended it above the water, and looked around for safety. Only then did she emerge.
The location she was in was roughly on the outskirts of the city’s second ring, approximately towards the west.
Nearby, there was a glass curtain building that stuck out above the water with more than ten stories exposed.
Surrounding the building were older, low-rise residential areas, a large construction site in progress, and a sports park of no small size, all of which were now thoroughly submerged by the floodwaters.
This made the building appear lonely and isolated, like an island in the sea.
...
Jiang Yan thought about it; going back to Shallow Bay and coming out again was not feasible.
This morning she and Sun Jingtao had reacted quickly and had had a smooth exit.
Any later, and that exit would probably have been overwhelmed by survivors from Building A.
Furthermore, the to-and-fro was quite exhausting; the time wasted on the road would be better spent resting properly.
After all, there was the whole of tomorrow to keep working.
This building, with neither village in front nor shop in back,
though an island, was particularly suitable for her to rest.
This meant the chance of meeting strangers was virtually zero.
With the mobile home that was Space, the impact wasn’t significant.
Thinking this, Jiang Yan slowly swam towards the conspicuous “island.”
The windows were all tightly closed and covered with sun protection film, making the inside pitch-black.
Jiang Yan approached the window, holding a flashlight and peered inside for a while before she could clearly see that she was right at the center of a floor’s windows.
Inside was probably the employee office area of some large company, densely packed with cubicles as far as the eye could see.
Due to the good seal of the building, water inside reached only as high as the seats of the employee chairs.
After observing, she decided it was better not to break the windows violently.
If the terrain inside was lower, the water rushing in at that moment could pull her in with its strong current and pressure in one second flat.
In that case, she might not die, but she’d certainly be crippled.
Jiang Yan thought for a moment, and instead of using the powerful Fire Axe, she took out a small hammer and gently tapped a tiny, fine crack in the window.
The glass of the curtain wall was strong and impact-resistant; the layer of sun protection film inside prevented it from shattering in an instant like ordinary glass would.
Yet under intense water pressure, it wouldn’t hold for long.
Jiang Yan didn’t dwell on this and quickly put away the hammer and turned to swim rapidly outwards.
In just three or four seconds, the crack in the glass grew bigger under the pressure of the water.
She even heard the “creak” of it breaking, didn’t delay any further, and with a thought, she flashed into Space.
About seven or eight minutes passed before she came out of Space.
The strong water pressure had pushed all the glass in the area away.
At this moment, the water level was equal both inside and outside the building.
Jiang Yan swam carefully inside.
Inside the building now floated a bunch of documents, books, seat cushions, and a small amount of glass shards that had not had time to fall to the ground.
She quickly found the entrance to the office area and broke in the same way.

It looked like she was on the 13th floor, and the hallway was pitch-dark, pervaded with a damp, moldy smell.
She quickly located the emergency stairs on that floor, listened intently for a while, and scanned around with a flashlight before sitting on the stair’s edge, putting away the cumbersome scuba system and oxygen tanks into Space.
Taking off her mask, fins, and various diving accessories, Jiang Yan felt herself lighten, as if she suddenly came to life.
Having been in the water for too long, there were marks on her face left by the mask.
Without further delay, she stood up and walked towards the 14th floor.
The hallways were pitch-black, and the ground was littered with numerous cigarette butts.
In high-rise buildings like this, smoking is usually prohibited, but this didn’t stop those who insist on having a smoke after meals.
To say nothing of casually scrolling through videos to tip a streamer or “touch-fish” on their mobile phones.
She quickly reached the 14th floor, shone her flashlight on the door, and couldn’t help but smile.
The elegant characters “Jingbai Dental” came into view.
Her luck today was like finding a pillow when dozing off!
This was a private dental clinic, nationally renowned, large in scale and area.
Most of them were located in 5A office buildings.
Some even occupied two or three floors.
Originally, she had been thinking of raiding hospitals and clinics for free medicine, but didn’t expect to come across one here.
Of course, the clinic would not have a complete range of medicines, but basic antibiotics, antiseptics, an assortment of emergency allergy medications, and cardiovascular drugs are always in stock.
Jiang Yan took out a Fire Axe from Space, smashed open the glass door of the reception, and briskly entered.
Two fortune trees and a pot of orchids in the reception area had long withered.
Moving forward, behind the reception’s elegant-Marble countertop, a pretentious white fruit-brand computer appeared before her.
The desk was adorned with a pinkish USB fan, a mini humidifier, an array of mini figurines, a collection of special-series Popmart mystery boxes, a matching set of fruit-green keyboards, and more.
It looked like the workstation of a girl who loved life.
Employees who take such care and curate their workspace with a healing vibe are usually dedicated and not prone to quitting.
Unapologetically taking one of the adorable little cat figurines, Jiang Yan continued on her way.
She breezed past the pantry and common areas, where food was kept, quickly finding the clinic’s medicine storage.
Hospitals and clinics have specific requirements for storing medicine, so it wasn’t hard to find.
She busted the door open as usual.
Amoxicillin, metronidazole, ibuprofen sustained-release capsules, dexamethasone, nitroglycerin, and a bunch of other drugs she didn’t recognize—all effortlessly collected into Space with a touch of her finger.
However, these medicines had undergone high temperatures, so it was unknown whether their efficacy was impacted, which was why she stored them separately, marked for emergency use under extreme conditions.
There were also several fridges in the storage room, probably for those special drugs that needed constant temperature storage.
The fridges had been without electricity, and with previous high temperatures, it was clear these medications were no longer effective, so Jiang Yan did not take them.
Suddenly, she realized that while purchasing medication abroad, she actually should have bought some vaccines as well.
Even if she could now acquire vaccines for free, they were essentially inactivated by this point.
Having collected the medicines, Jiang Yan left the luxuriously decorated dental clinic.
Inside, there were also rest areas and the director’s office.
But with the occasional appearance of dentures and skull X-ray photos in the dim light, it was somewhat psychologically unsettling.
And since it was just on the 14th floor, if someone came in later, she’d be easily discovered.
She simply went up two more floors.
The 16th floor was half occupied by an e-commerce platform company, which appeared to have decent decor.
She easily broke through the door.
No sooner had she entered the open-plan office area than she saw a red and black striped inflatable boat sailing over the glowing water just a short distance away.
