Apocalypse: Hero of Potato Fields-Chapter 322 - 320 Armor Prototype_2
Lin Yi didn’t have time to sit idly by, so he confirmed that Chen Youyou wasn’t busy with anything important and then teleported her to his side.
"Boss, you’re awake!" Chen Youyou beamed as soon as she realized she had been teleported over.
"The professor told us you were okay, but Rein stayed by your side the whole time. We both took care of you, boss, but... she was always uneasy, crying constantly."
"How long was I in a coma?"
"Three days."
"...The Earth didn’t blow up while I was out, right?"
"Everything’s fine here, and the Tilian Planet and Lille are also safe. The Americans finally delivered the vehicles you ordered.
They really hope that as soon as we get new skill books, we’ll sell them to them. They’re particularly interested in Lightning Skill Book, probably because they’re always dealing with sea monsters."
"Hmm... she’s asleep!" Lin Yi said softly, freeing himself from Rein’s embrace and getting out of bed.
"She was too excited," Chen Youyou said, nodding towards Rein, who was happily clutching a blanket tightly, as if it were a human-shaped pillow.
"Yeah, she leveled up to 10 as you said, so she completed the task."
"Level 10, huh? That was quick. Or did we encounter a fragment zone?" Lin Yi turned to look at Chen Youyou and asked.
"No, but the number of zombies emerging from the fog has been increasing daily." Chen Youyou watched Lin Yi getting dressed and, after thinking for a while, answered. If it were nighttime, she might have...
Thinking of her improper thoughts, Chen Youyou blushed and quickly started talking about work.
"The lab completed the analysis of the ’Divine Shooter’ skills yesterday. We didn’t know when you would wake up, so they started on the Wind Skills next."
"Wise decision, analyze ’Lightning’ after that, then ’Archer,’ ’Weapon Smith,’ and ’Doctor’..."
Chen Youyou noted it in her notebook.
"What time is it now?"
"5 PM."
"I pretty much wasted four days, huh? Is there anything I need to handle?"
"Jelat sent us a sample of the power armor they designed, similar to the ’Slaughterer’ model. You should take a look to see if there are any issues.
Then tell Jelat so they can make modifications, and they’ll send us the blueprints so we can make our own power armor.
But don’t you think... it might be better to order directly from the Tilian Planet?"
"No, because then they wouldn’t be system equipment. The greatest advantage of ’Slaughterer’ is that it can integrate with both the Beastmen’s bodies and those with Transformation Skills."
After chatting with Chen Youyou, Lin Yi teleported to Solomon’s training grounds.
"Boss! You were in a coma for so long! Everyone was nearly bored to death." Solomon ran happily towards him.
"They’ll have a battle to fight soon enough." Lin Yi smiled slyly, scanning the training area.
"There’s a Moving Island nearby, right?"
"Possibly, but only you and Siri can confirm, though Siri is still asleep."
"Speaking of Siri, how’s the riding beetles project coming along?" 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
"Rhinoceros beetles? They’re great. Riding them is a bit tricky, but everyone’s got the hang of it.
Sadly, there are only forty of them, and Orianna wants to convince us to use them in the fields.
She said it’s such a waste to not use their plowing power..."
"Aren’t the Argonans enough for her?"
"She says she wants to maximize efficiency."
"...Alright, let her have her fun; I don’t mind making a little extra money. But it’s just temporary."
In the next half hour, the two of them tested new power armor from the Rusted Fortress.
The semi-mechanical engineers crafted the armor the way Lin Yi wanted — easy to use and manufacture, and most importantly, cheap.
It wasn’t as powerful as the ’Slaughterer’ power armor in the Shelter, but it gave the wearer more mobility without significantly compromising Defense.
It used an Energy Core as a power source.
According to the engineers’ calculations, one power armor set could run for five hours on one Energy Core.
However, they used their own Energy Core, which had 100 Magic Value.
So, Earth’s Energy Core could actually keep one set running for ten hours.
"Boss, should we try making power armor ourselves?" Solomon suggested.
"No, we have about ten thousand people here, and it would take six months to make all the armor."
"What if it’s assembling? Our people make the parts, and the Beastmen’s Blacksmiths do the assembly."
"That’s doable." Lin Yi nodded.
"Contact them over at Rusted and have them send us a few dismantled suits. I’ll go try Jelat’s version of the ’Slaughterer’."
The so-called "Jelat version Slaughterer" is truly a work of art.
The chaplain collaborated with the best talents in the fortress to design it, working day and night.
They might have gone a bit overboard...
Lin Yi saw several sets of power armor.
They were enormous and looked powerful, but one was exceptionally small.
It looked like it was the "Slaughterer-2" model, but compared to regular power armor, it was pitifully small.
The first prototype he tried on was a heavy power armor, weighing at least 450 pounds.
Its bulk reminded him of the power armor worn by Interstellar Warriors in Warhammer 40,000.
According to the specifications that came with the prototype, this armor could withstand a direct hit from a mutant.
It was several times stronger than the "Slaughterer-2", and the wearer could lift a 330-pound object with one hand.
Because of its ingenious system, its reactor could function with almost no water.
The engineers also anticipated the possibility of reactor damage and, after much effort, found a way to prevent it from exploding.
Another interesting feature was something called "directional steam jets."
Wearers could alter their trajectory in space by ejecting a fine, high-pressure steam stream.
For example, they could slow down while running or quickly leap to one side.
Why such a heavy power armor needed this feature was something Lin Yi wasn’t quite sure of.
Next, he tried the smallest suit, described as "light armor."
Its Defense was slightly lower than the "Slaughterer-2" model, but it weighed only a quarter of the latter.
However, due to its advanced DSE System, its mobility was several times higher.
Lin Yi tried it on and felt like Iron Man.
Activating his "Combat Reflex" skills, he almost felt like he could fly with this armor. He
leaped into the air, twisting like an acrobat, but used up half the water in the process, so he had to return to the ground.
"So cool, boss!" Annie shouted.
A large crowd had already gathered in the testing area.
