Apocalypse: Hero of Potato Fields-Chapter 327 - 324: Kilometer Giant Snake
Brilon’s town.
This town is very... interesting, primarily because it’s filled with mutant snakes.
In the center of the town, there’s a giant tree, at least 250 meters tall, which the professor is eager to study as a post-apocalyptic botanical miracle.
Lin Yi felt noticeably better after driving to the base located in the southern forest of the town.
The snakes have essentially turned the base into their own nest.
On one hand, these massive snakes may have destroyed all the loot and vehicles, but on the other hand, they have stopped others from looting the base.
The soldiers first used drones and quadcopters to scout the area from the air.
The results showed that this base is quite large.
There are hangars for military vehicles, four barracks, several buildings with unknown purposes, and a lot of warehouses.
There are also many trees, which have almost taken over the entire base, turning it into some sort of jungle.
Lin Yi discussed the attack plan with his team and then began summoning beastmen, infantry in Doomsday Knight Armor equipped with AP-4 rifles, and archers.
He temporarily refrained from using the mages, fearing they might accidentally burn down the entire forest along with the base.
Moreover, the mages were already the highest-level people in the shelter, so it was reasonable to let others have some hunting opportunities.
"Fly!" Lin Yi shouted to the giant dragons, "Just don’t burn anything"
Da Chuan lowered his head and snorted.
According to the translation, he said something like "I guarantee it," but it didn’t sound very confident.
The giant dragons took off, rushing towards the military base.
In reality, it was Mira dashing, while Da Chuan was merely trying to keep up with her.
The entire base was covered in trees, making it difficult to spot the snakes from the air, despite many blue-scaled snakes sunbathing on the rooftops.
The approaching Dragon Maiden didn’t escape the snakes’ attention.
The snakes reacted quickly, gearing up to battle this winged reptile.
This put Mira on high alert, but she still lunged at them, starting her attack.
As the green giant dragon approached the rooftops, all the snakes coiled together, launching at the winged lizard as if fired from a can of peanut brittle.
In dragon form, Mira was larger than Da Chuan, making her less agile in the air.
She attempted to evade but couldn’t avoid the swarm of snakes.
Almost a dozen snakes, each 10 to 25 meters long, wrapped around the green dragon.
They were thicker than their non-mutant kin, making them larger and heavier.
Mira roared, trying to shake off the snakes, but even as she tore at them with her teeth and claws, they wouldn’t loosen their venomous fangs.
"Ahhh!" Da Chuan roared, trying to pull the snakes off his beloved.
But Mira’s strength was rapidly fading, and just as he killed the last snake, Mira began to fall.
Da Chuan caught the green dragon, dragging her back toward the army.
The snakes started pursuing them, getting ever closer.
"Boss! Mira is in trouble, the snakes bit her, she’s poisoned!" Melanie reported.
"What an idiot..." Lin Yi slapped his forehead and said, "How is Da Chuan?"
"He’s bringing her back, the snakes are chasing them."
"Understood."
Lin Yi turned to his army, "Alright, it’s time to meet our guests!"
The beastmen roared. They were eager for battle, and the enemy before them was indeed unusual: giant snakes!
Thousands of giant snakes began pouring out of the base walls like a tsunami.
The smallest snakes were 6 meters, the largest surpassed 150 meters.
As soon as these creatures appeared, the soldiers opened fire with their AP-4 rifles.
The archers used electric arrows, while the beastmen waited for the enemy to get close enough for melee combat.
The young Taru people had grown much stronger lately.
They had mastered many skills, acquired new equipment, various accessories, and better weapons.
Most importantly, they had accumulated a lot of combat experience.
Blood, chunks of flesh, and fragments of walls flew everywhere.
The snakes wailed, hissed, and then died.
However, the damage inflicted by the army was still not enough to eliminate the entire swarm of snakes.
These monsters were surprisingly hard to kill, especially those snakes longer than 30 meters.
But the real problem was their numbers.
No matter how many snakes they killed, more kept pouring in endlessly.
Once the giant dragons returned to the army’s side, they were immediately sent to the shelter for the professor’s treatment.
Lin Yi didn’t have time to scold them at the moment. Besides, they had completed the main task.
It turned out that for the shelter’s force to withstand the attack of this overwhelming number of enemies was too difficult.
The swarm left heaps of corpses as it gradually approached, eventually starting to launch themselves into the air, dropping onto humans from above.
At this point, the Doomsday Knight Armor was truly a lifesaver; only a few snakes could bite through it.
Fortunately, the snakes were not poisonous.
The venomous snakes were noticeably thinner and couldn’t bite through such thick armor unless they got lucky.
Lin Yi summoned reinforcements clad in power armor, including some new Flame Warriors clad in Steel Armor.
These warriors, armed with Elemental Swords, were making their debut battle against the snakes.
Time ticked on, and the battle became even more intense.
Lin Yi barely had time to care for the wounded, but he had no intention of retreating.
Such a tough battle was beneficial for the soldiers, who had recently started to get a little arrogant.
When the largest snake finally arrived before them, the real fight began.
Unlike the smaller snakes, they were cunning, strong, and capable of coordinated attacks.
The AP-4 rifles were not very effective against them, especially against that massive 150-meter-long creature.
This monster didn’t care about being hit by a few small bullets, as the wounds healed in fractions of a second anyway.
"Shall we call the mage, boss? We can burn them all!" Solomon, the 15-meter-tall stone giant, asked while battling snakes.
"If they really drive us to desperation, then call!" Lin Yi shouted through the amplifier.
Solomon was too large to use a walkie-talkie, so the only way to talk to him was to shout.
The battle was still raging fiercely.
The snakes swept with their tails, knocking soldiers around like pins. The beastmen hacked at the monsters’ bodies relentlessly with swords and axes...
Unlike intelligent races, snakes and zombies didn’t cause much spatial interference, allowing Lin Yi to teleport his warriors directly beside the enemy.
However, there were many participating in this battle,
He had to pay attention to everyone.
Thus, he had learned two skills:
"Clear Gaze," and "Hawkeye."
The former improved his concentration and ability to observe details, while the latter enabled him to see further and focus on distant objects.
These two skills complemented each other well.
All the snipers in the shelter had mastered the same skill combination.
The effects of these skills weren’t particularly evident at the first level, but they were still very useful.
No matter how many snakes they killed, more and more continued to swarm.
The soldiers immediately teleported the dead snakes back to the shelter; their skins were valuable alchemy materials, and their meat was delicious.
But there were still relentless snakes charging forward.
"It’s a pity we didn’t bring those knights. Their levels are too low, but..."
Lin Yi contacted Hubert.
Hubert had been closely watching the battle and was already considering deploying the knights. They could at least clear all the small snakes.
Thirty seconds later, 5,500 warriors wearing magic armor appeared on the battlefield.
Their levels were low, the armor provided them no attribute bonuses, and they had no aura skills, but... they fought with full effort.
It was clear these people were professionals.
They split into groups of five, spreading out to defend the army’s flanks and rear.
Snakes lashed their tails at them, flew at them like arrows, dropped from the sky, trees, branches, and jumped from bushes.
Some particularly long, vine-like snakes wrapped around humans, dragging them to the trees.
But the knights survived by relying on their numbers and extremely efficient teamwork, immediately helping comrades in danger and evacuating the wounded to the rear of the army.
Thanks to the defense provided by the knights, Lin Yi was able to teleport trucks to serve as mobile medical stations.
If anyone was poisoned, medics from these mobile field hospitals would treat them immediately.
If a soldier couldn’t be treated on-site, Lin Yi would teleport him back to the shelter.
"How about some fire, boss?"
"Our mages are all level 10 or above, I want others to earn some experience points as well."
Lin Yi was exhausted; constantly saving everyone was incredibly difficult.
Most of his warriors weren’t professional soldiers, and they had never fought against such enemies before.
So... to put it mildly, there were some very serious mistakes.
There was one guy who almost got swallowed by a hundred-meter-long snake due to a lack of concentration.
Fortunately, Lin Yi reacted quickly to save him, but the damage was done...
He lost both legs, which was troublesome, but the real issue was his armor was nearly destroyed, and his weapon was stuck in the snake’s belly.
They managed to retrieve the weapon by cutting open the monster’s belly with a Light Beam Blade.
This soldier and his legs were sent to the professor; the soldier could be treated but his ability would quickly weaken to nearly zero.
"Boss, more snakes are coming from the town! A giant snake appeared at the base!"
"How big?!"
"A thousand meters long!"
"Damn! Contact Hubert, have him call for artillery, the wind mage, and helicopters to get ready."
After a giant hangar was destroyed, the giant snake revealed itself.
Apparently, there was a huge cavern buried under the building, from which this giant beast climbed out.
It was at least 1,500 meters long, its open mouth was big enough to swallow a tank.
The wind mage immediately created an air wall, sending the incoming snakes flying back into the forest.
With the sky safe again, Lin Yi deployed a helicopter equipped with magic missiles.
He decided not to use another helicopter because its mobility was not good enough.
Then, the boss summoned eight howitzers.
Lin Yi didn’t want to blow up this military base, but what else could he do? The battle had become extremely intense, and more snakes were starting to crawl from the town.
The knights could still fend off the snake’s attacks for now, but once the larger snakes approached the forces, the situation would become dangerous.
Heavy vehicles were dispatched as reinforcements, including Louis’ tank.
He wasn’t allowed to use incendiaries, but received permission to use the flamethrower.
The water mages remained on standby just in case.
Lin Yi didn’t want to burn down the entire forest.
The artillery began firing regular shells, while the helicopter relayed their shooting accuracy data. The giant snake rapidly approached, where it passed, trees, buildings, vehicles...
Everything was destroyed.
"Artillery can’t hit it, they lack experience. We need someone to pin it down... like those dragons," Hubert said over the headset.
"Makes sense. How’s Mira?"
"All set, eager to go."
"Send her to draw away that gigantic snake, I’m curious about what reward we’ll get after taking down that thing..."
The giant dragons were summoned over, but not before the boss harshly reprimanded them.
Then he gave them three simple commands.
"Don’t take foolish risks."
"Draw away the snake."
"If you can’t, just get the hell out!"
