Apocalypse: Hero of Potato Fields-Chapter 330 - 326 Auster Fortress
Inside the Shelter.
Lin Yi murmured, floating up and down in the water like a fishing bobber.
The pain he had just experienced was indescribable... Despite
his will being forged through countless trials, he almost collapsed.
Half an hour passed before he could catch his breath again.
To say the residents of the shelter were in panic would be an understatement; they all thought the boss had burned to death trying to save the soldiers.
"It’s father! He’s alive!"
Alyosha shouted, having been searching all over the shelter with his siblings.
"Dad..." Kaya moaned, tears streaming down her face as she ran toward Lin Yi who was floating on the water’s surface.
"Why are you all crying?"
"Father... everyone thought you were dead."
Kaya’s words quickly brought Lin Yi back to his senses.
He kept an eye on his core members, many of them searching through the shelter.
Rein was holding Chen Youyou, crying loudly, though Chen Youyou’s condition wasn’t great either.
The scene looked quite touching, but also a bit awkward, having a group of women weep like that...
"Tell everyone I’m fine," Lin Yi replied, then teleported to the roof of the castle.
He quickly got dressed and returned to his home.
Two girls were crying there.
"What’s wrong with you? Does no one here believe me..." the boss said loudly, shaking his head with a smile.
The girls stared at the boss.
Soon, he was holding the two crying little ones.
"Stop crying, I’m perfectly fine, you know?" Lin Yi patted the girls on their backs.
Lin Yi’s words only made the girls cry harder, and Solomon soon arrived with some of his men.
"Boss! We’ve been looking everywhere for you." Solomon chuckled lightly, feeling relieved.
He had already started thinking of the worst...
"Uh... why are you bald?"
"Bald heads are in fashion now," Lin Yi replied with a serious face, "Alright, go tell everyone I’m fine. I’m a bit tied up right now."
"Hahaha! Tied up indeed, leave it to me, let’s go, brothers!" Solomon pushed about twenty people out the door and then closed it.
Lin Yi took about twenty minutes to calm the girls down before they stopped crying.
But the girls still clung to him tightly.
"Boss! Giselle is having a baby!"
This news finally brought the girls back to their senses.
The boss teleported everyone to the hospital.
The professor, a nurse, and a Hilania healer were there, as was Giselle.
Lin Yi stood by the side to avoid getting in the way, or seeing something he shouldn’t.
Then the baby’s head emerged.
But it wasn’t a baby at all; it was a wolf pup!
Solomon nearly fainted...
The little guy howled like a wolf pup, but as soon as the nurse picked it up and cleaned it, it instantly became an ordinary human baby.
"This is a skill! He was born with his mother’s skill!" the professor gasped.
The baby kicked and cried, reaching for his mother.
"A healthy baby boy, full of life force!"
Giselle was thrilled, as was her husband...
Once he came to his senses.
After everyone congratulated them, they all left the ward, each going about their own business.
Lin Yi stayed behind, asking the professor if he could make his hair grow back...
Fashion be damned, he wasn’t willing to part with his thick head of hair.
And it was really strange having no eyebrows...
The skilled doctor took just fifteen minutes to regrow a full head of hair and eyebrows for him.
After teleporting to the location of his laptop, Lin Yi took a look at what became of the military base.
It had turned into a smoldering ruin, the ground collapsed, all the ammunition exploded, the remaining vehicles destroyed, and so on...
The forest was on fire, the town was on fire too, including a certain tree that must have been very special and probably very valuable...
"Boss!"
"What’s up, Manny?" Lin Yi asked the economic development minister of the shelter.
"Those guys all want to go home; can you bring them back, at least for lunch?"
"Those guys? Which guys?" 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
"The guys on the robot planet, they’ve collected forty thousand tons of red sand..."
"Well, I think that’s about enough..."
Lin Yi had totally forgotten about the people he had left in Tilian collecting sand.
He quickly teleported there, bringing them and their vehicles back to the shelter.
He still had a lot of work to catch up on.
The soldiers tallied the rewards for killing the snakes.
They killed nearly ten thousand First Level mutant snakes, one thousand seven hundred eighty-eight Second Level mutant snakes, and nine hundred nine Third Level mutant snakes.
They obtained four thousand nine hundred eighty-five green-quality rewards, one thousand three hundred forty-one blue-quality rewards, and ninety-nine purple-quality rewards.
They also got quite a few Coins, but these Coins might not even cover the cost of repairing damaged equipment...
For the rest of the day, Lin Yi was busy traveling around Tilian, heading to the survivor camp on the other side of the desert.
Dusk finally arrived.
It was a fortress in the mountains.
It was guarded by turrets, dozens of mechas, and all kinds of traps.
He cautiously approached the fortress slowly.
No one expected him to come, so any sudden move could be seen as hostility.
He noticed some movement on the city wall.
Lin Yi stopped.
It was obvious he wasn’t a refugee...
The guards thought so too, so a few minutes later, the gate opened, and a small delegation of three mechas emerged.
"Identify yourself!" A voice came from the loudspeaker of the mecha in the center.
This was a powerful mecha, twenty meters high, with armored shell and strong limbs.
The mecha was equipped with a pike and two black twelve-meter blades.
"I am an emissary from Rust City. I am on my way to the Leixier Fortress, but I will stop at all neutral camps along the way to sell supplies."
"An emissary? Very well! We will take you to see our leader, but you must hand over all weapons."
"My only weapon is this." The stranger said, patting his dagger.
Lin Yi was taken into the fortress.
He had to hand over the dagger to the guards, but they frisked him anyway.
It was a small city.
Many residential buildings, apparently constructed to save space, so they looked somewhat like an anthill.
There were also other structures on top of the apartment buildings, and even bridges connecting them.
The half-mechanical people here were all busy.
Interestingly, Lin Yi did not see anyone wearing helmets or respirators.
Many half-mechanical people looked like robots, with exposed metal limbs and no synthetic skin.
He was quickly escorted into the fortress.
The internal security measures were top-notch, with many well-equipped guards, automated systems, doors strong enough to be nearly impregnable, video surveillance, and so on.
After being scanned three times and frisked for weapons or anything that could be used as a weapon, he was led into a large office.
The walls were lined with many surveillance screens, with a desk and a large conference table in the center of the room.
The desk and conference table were designed to look like wood, but were actually made of metal.
There was no air filtration system in the fortress, so Lin Yi kept his helmet on all the time.
"Welcome, emissary. My name is Henry. I am in charge of this camp. Would you mind providing some evidence proving that you are indeed an emissary from Rusted Fortress?"
The man speaking stood up from behind the desk.
Half of his face was damaged, while the other half had synthetic skin, even sporting a synthetic eye.
His arms and legs were covered by a coverall, but like many residents of the fortress, his fingers had no skin.
"I am Lin Yi. This is my proof, specifically prepared for neutral camps."
A device that looked like a plastic card appeared in Lin Yi’s hand.
But when Henry saw this small magic trick, he immediately became suspicious.
Who could guarantee that this stranger wouldn’t conjure a weapon this way? Or a bomb?
"This is an interesting... trick." The man said, pressing a hidden button.
A dozen armed half-mechanical people in power armor immediately rushed into the room.
But for the moment, they did not engage the guest.
"If you watched this information, you would understand just how useful this ’trick’ of mine could be for you."
Lin Yi chuckled softly, casually handing the device to a soldier.
"I will decide after watching." The man responded, hiding behind his guards.
One of the guards inserted the card into a small device, watched a five-minute video, and then nodded to his boss.
Ten minutes later, Henry was grinning from ear to ear...
Well, actually couldn’t grin that widely, as he only had half a mouth.
"Hahaha! This information couldn’t possibly be fake. It’s good to hear that Rust City repelled the beasts. And it was all caused by aliens..."
The man laughed heartily, reclining in his armchair. He had gleaned some very...
Interesting information from that message!
"The Elder said you provide services and sell goods, including fuel, is that true?"
"He has no reason to deceive you."
Lin Yi replied somewhat wearily, then waved his hand, and a biofuel can appeared on the floor.
A soldier immediately ran over to check its safety, then inspected its contents, and nodded to his boss.
"You really... can recharge power cores and energy weapons?" The man asked incredulously.
After all, that was impossible!
"Only for Coin, but it takes time, so for now, I only trade charged cores for uncharged ones. However..."
A cube appeared in Lin Yi’s hand. He handed it to the guards, who carefully examined it before giving it to Henry.
"A vending machine? I’ve never seen such a device before." Henry said after reading the instructions.
He turned the cube in his hand, scrutinizing the emissary.
For the next half hour, Lin Yi explained what a vending machine was, how to use it, and what items it sold.
Henry, who became extremely security-conscious after getting gravely injured in an assassination attempt, asked a lot of questions.
However, there was no equipment in the city to repair the half-mechanical people; they couldn’t even fix damaged skin.
That’s why the locals looked so battered.
After all, they lived under rather harsh conditions.
Lin Yi, through Immanuel, contacted his partners in the two fortresses to discuss the possibility of collaboration with Henry, what supplies and equipment his camp needed, the prices, and so on.
