Apocalypse: Hero of Potato Fields-Chapter 345 - 340 The Water Crane Race’s Ark Annihilation
Inside the shelter.
"For our new home!" Tens of thousands of soldiers shouted in unison.
Outside, it was pitch black, making it impossible to see who was shouting, but the voice clearly wasn’t from the battlefield.
Some yellow lights appeared, then more and more, until they formed two glowing yellow walls.
One approached from the north, the other from the south.
The sound of tens of thousands of warriors wearing metal armor marching resounded in the distance.
A unit of soldiers equipped with mortars began bombarding groups of zombies with magic-enhanced shells, a series of devastating explosions shaking the enemy forces.
Mortars weren’t particularly powerful, but they were highly effective at weakening zombies.
A zombie that loses its ability to move is basically no different from being dead.
Two walls of auras were approaching the battlefield.
The zombies reacted quickly, entering a berserk state.
Two large groups of undead separated from the main force to deal with the humans descending from the city walls.
The zombies charged at the enemy but immediately crashed into a wall of auras and shields.
A massive army of knights crushed any zombies they encountered.
During the charge against the endless stream of zombies pouring toward the city walls, they slaughtered the remaining zombies.
More and more zombies split off from the main force, but the knights pressed steadfastly toward their goal.
Anyone who tried to stop them encountered attacks from magic-enhanced blades.
The Zombie General finally lost patience.
The zombie stream split in two, attempting to overwhelm these insignificant humans.
But as soon as the undead collided with the shield wall, beastmen rained down from the city walls, alongside giant shapeshifters and beastfolk.
Bears the size of tanks, wolves larger than lions, giant scorpions, and more creatures joined the battle.
Nearly two thousand shapeshifters and beastfolk from three different races charged into the fiercest part of the battle, creating chaos and a spray of blood wherever they went.
A squad of Hilania shapeshifters, capable of transforming into a beast somewhat resembling a kangaroo, leaped into the air, jumping sixty meters high into the zombie horde.
They began crushing zombie skulls at close range.
The legs and feet of these Hilania shapeshifters enabled them to jump incredible distances.
Their arms slightly elongated, and they possessed a powerful tail as dangerous as their feet.
These creatures were muscular, their fur resilient enough to withstand handgun shots.
The Kuagalur used their feet, hands, and tails for attacks; they were excellent close combat warriors. Even zombie armor couldn’t withstand their assaults.
Giant bears rampaged through the zombie horde, roaring as they roamed the battlefield, scattering zombies like bowling pins.
Their mission: stop the zombie onslaught.
Following the bears were other beasts, including wolves, wild boars, and even reptiles resembling a mix of a crocodile and a frog.
These "frog crocs" were fast, agile, and very willing to tear zombies into shreds.
Their front legs were slightly shorter than their hind legs, but their powerful claws were not just for show, shredding enemies to pieces.
Their long snouts were lined with large, sharp teeth, enough to bite a knight in half.
Furthermore, their long tongue could stretch out like a long spear, piercing multiple enemies at once.
As the large animals tore into and shredded zombies, smaller animals following them eliminated any injured or incapacitated undead.
Next were the beastfolk, along with about a thousand members of the Child of the Sun squad.
The so-called "Flame Warriors," or close combat mages wielding elemental swords, performed quite well.
There were only about a hundred and fifty of them, but they had invested most of their points in physical attributes, making them very strong.
Luckily for them, their weapons could be powered by energy cores.
Their flame swords cut through zombie bodies as easily as a hot knife through butter, but they were also generous with their use of magic, capable of spewing flames from their hands.
The chaotic battlefield didn’t allow them to go all out as they could easily injure their allies, but this made them more focused.
A member of the Child of the Sun squad picked up a zombie’s weapon and used it to cut off another enemy’s head.
He bared his teeth, wielding a sword in each hand, and hacked away madly.
His comrades noticed the scene, and soon all the members of the Child of the Sun squad followed suit.
These pale-skinned berserkers, stimulated by the flying blood as they cleared the battlefield and swung spare swords, beheaded zombies with greater frenzy.
The knights had quickly reached and blocked the passageway leading to the island.
The Flame Mages soon joined them, erecting a massive fire wall, completely blocking the passage.
But... the Zombie General relentlessly launched wave after wave of zombies at the fire wall, quickly exhausting the remaining magic value of the mages.
However, they bought enough time for the knights to reorganize and humans to set up more steel walls.
"Where the hell are you going?!" Lin Yi cursed as he watched the battlefield.
He knew deploying the Child of the Sun squad would be an extremely troublesome task, but what he saw...
Dozens of instances of burns and injuries, over twenty corpses, and they weren’t even sure if they could save them all.
The zombies were smart, knowing how to attack in groups, and the level 4 zombies were surprisingly proficient with weapons.
Unlike the members of the Child of the Sun squad who swung their swords like clubs, the zombies had skilled techniques.
Block, thrust, slash, thrust...
Lin Yi watched as another severely injured member of the Child of the Sun squad was sent to the medical ward.
Most zombies couldn’t withstand a single blow from the members of the Child of the Sun squad, but the level 3 cannon fodder readily served as human shields.
"Did they burn the bear?!" Lin Yi roared as he teleported a burning bear into the lake.
Once again, an overconfident member of the Child of the Sun squad incautiously burned a group of zombies to death.
"Damn..." Lin Yi muttered to himself as a wave of undead led by level 4 Zombie Knights collided with the knights like a tsunami of rotting flesh...
This wave of zombies crashed directly into their shields, then zombies leaped onto their shoulders to attack the knights.
Finally, these zombies got stuck on obstacles and were hacked into pieces, but it took a minute, leaving the knights almost buried under hundreds of corpses.
If they couldn’t kill the zombies, the knights would be in big trouble.
A mutated zombie jumped out from a pile of bodies, attacking the soldiers cleaning the area in front of the walls.
However, the soldiers were well aware. There could be living zombies or even mutated creatures hiding under the bodies.
The soldiers fired in unison with AP-4 rifles, and that feigning dead mutated creature really turned into dead meat.
However, this situation happened frequently.
The soldiers would find some zombies that appeared lifeless but couldn’t transport them to the pit...
Fortunately, once they decapitated these zombies, everything returned to normal.
Of course, they could also wait for the ground to absorb the corpses, but no one was sure if the knights could hold out until then.
It turned out there were quite a few zombies playing dead.
Clearly, this was a despicable tactic by the Zombie General, as more armed infantry were called away from dining and ordered to protect those collecting bodies.
Everyone in the army not fighting at the wall had to eat as much and as fast as possible because in real combat, they didn’t even have time to drink a sip of water.
At this moment, there was a knock on the door.
Su Alme, the leader of the former Child of the Sun squad, entered the military command.
"The boss is looking for me?"
"That’s right," Lin Yi replied, gesturing towards the table.
Once his guest sat down, Lin Yi spoke.
"I’ve thought about it a lot; you’re one of the best... members of the former Child of the Sun squad."
"Uh... Thank you, boss!"
"So I think you should earn this book."
A skill book appeared on the table in front of Su Alme, he reached out to take the book and looked at the description, suddenly dazed.
[Child of the Sun]
An exclusive skill, with only one skill book existing, and if you die, there’s a chance the skill book will reappear.
The sun favors you.
Its rays gather towards you.
Your body will be reshaped, and as long as you bathe in the sunlight, you can nourish your body.
"I don’t quite understand what use this skill has for you, but these unique skills often carry unknown mysteries, what do you think?"
"As the former Child of the Sun, this skill is excellent... Thank you, boss!"
"This is a Stat Reset Potion, I’ve heard it’s incredibly hard to stomach."
The former Child of the Sun drank the potion without hesitation, learned the skill.
Then... nothing happened.
"I need sunlight!" Su Alme shouted, jumping up from his chair.
"It’s nighttime outside, buddy, there’s no sun. Okay, you go ahead, don’t take any foolish risks..."
Lin Yi said, waving his hand to dismiss the Child of the Sun squad member while mentally returning to the defensive action at the passageway where the knights were stationed.
The knights enveloped the steel wall with an aura, making it harder for zombies to climb.
This tactic was effective but also consumed a lot of Magic Value, accompanied by Taru Race warriors who tirelessly hacked at undead creatures through the aura.
There were members of the Child of the Sun squad wielding crossbow arrows and soldiers operating mortars, everyone giving their all to at least slightly impede the zombie assault.
The knights were in a difficult situation.
The enemy had unleashed a large number of mutated creatures, and giants were about to leave the safety of the Moving Island.
As soon as the zombies in front of the walls were cleared, Lin Yi recalled all the warriors to behind the walls.
The zombies that successfully broke through the defenses rushed towards the walls, then suddenly turned and started running back towards the island.
The Zombie General hadn’t expected his prey to clear so many corpses so swiftly.
Realizing that all his efforts had been wasted so far, he decided to retreat into his territory and wait.

Meanwhile, on the Ark of the Water Crane Race...
Fire raged in the city, screams and battle noises permeating the air.
Groups of zombies roamed the streets, hunting the few remaining Water Crane Clan survivors.
The remnants of the army were evacuating the survivors and trying to hold off the main zombie horde, but they were gradually forced to abandon their positions.
The caterpillar giants could inflict truly devastating damage on the defenders.
A huge breach in the wall was proof of this, and the countless heroic warriors who had been reduced to a bloody mess could also testify to it. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
"Protect the High Priest! The temple can’t be saved!" The chief guardian of the Central Temple shouted loudly.
He was a burly warrior clad in armor, wielding a short sword in each hand.
Having killed at least a hundred zombies, he was covered in the enemy’s blood.
"But where can we escape to?" a Priest asked.
"To the mountains! The Wind Sect! They must also save their Supreme Mentor, hurry! We don’t have much time!"
The warrior shouted loudly while slashing down a level 1 Strong Zombie.
He and forty other warriors were desperately defending the temple’s great hall.
Fifteen minutes ago, they were still a hundred strong...
