Apocalypse: Hero of Potato Fields-Chapter 369 - 355: Dying for the Cause
The Zombie General glanced lazily at Lin Yi and then went back to eating his food.
About 300 mutated creatures surrounded him.
With a wave of Lin Yi’s hand, a large group of soldiers wearing Doomsday Knight Armor appeared out of thin air.
"You go deal with those minions, I want to strangle this zombie myself!" Lin Yi roared.
He had a very unsettling thought and really hoped he was wrong...
A laser rifle appeared in Lin Yi’s hand.
Just as he aimed the gun at the Zombie General, the zombie threw a bag of Coin at him and dashed away like a startled cat.
The Zombie General was running too fast.
But Lin Yi immediately activated the Second Level Combat Reflex Skills, accurately predicting its movements, and shot this swift-moving monster, wounding its shoulder and side.
At first, the Zombie General thought Lin Yi was just lucky, but then there were three more wounds on its legs, and it immediately realized its original tactics wouldn’t work.
So it stopped running around and charged directly at the human.
It displayed some stunning acrobatic skills, successfully approaching within a few meters of Lin Yi.
Just as it was about to enjoy some fresh flesh.
Lin Yi suddenly stopped shooting.
A moment later, a plasma shotgun appeared in Lin Yi’s right hand.
The bracelet on his left forearm released a Fourth Level Siege Shield, instantly generating an energy barrier.
In a split second, he aimed and fired, the shotgun shooting numerous deadly plasma clusters at close range.
The shocked Zombie General somehow leapt aside, dodging death.
But the dozens of plasma balls still blew off the Zombie General’s right arm.
The Zombie General didn’t even blink an eye.
It didn’t let this human attack again but kicked over, though the shield blocked the blow.
Lin Yi retaliated by firing again, but the Zombie General counterattacked, punching the shotgun and then kicking towards the shield.
The plasma shotgun was shattered into countless pieces but was instantly replaced by a Light Beam Sword.
Lin Yi deactivated the obstructive energy barrier and then shot a current from his left palm.
The electrocuted Zombie General began to panic, but by the time it realized it, it was too late!
The Light Beam Sword had already sliced into the zombie’s shoulder, chopping off its other arm.
The Zombie General roared angrily, trying to retreat, but a plasma shotgun appeared again in Lin Yi’s hand.
He fired shot after shot until a lifeless gray corpse fell to the ground.
[You have killed a Zombie Lord]
[Gained 500 Experience Points]
"Melanie, report!"
"Fifty yards to the right, the soldiers are dealing with a Third Level Strong Zombie, they need support."
"Understood."
Lin Yi ran towards four soldiers who were shooting a five-meter-tall zombie with laser rifles.
He rushed to the strong zombie, using a plasma shotgun to shoot it in the knee at almost point-blank range.
Then he fired at its chest, and the undead creature roared as it began to fall.
[You assisted in killing a Third Level mutant]
[Gained 108 Experience Points]
"Melanie!"
"Yes, boss! Your next target is..."
Lin Yi spent fifteen minutes helping the soldiers eliminate the remaining mutants and zombies.
These cunning zombies took advantage of the woods and dark environment.
Some tried to flee after the Zombie General was killed, but Lin Yi wouldn’t allow that to happen.
"Don’t let a single one of them escape! These guys even eat coins!"
After all the zombies were wiped out, the soldiers quickly tallied the loot.
They found 6.5 million coins, 407 Skill Books, including 70 Rare Skill Books, a workshop cube, 53 Weapon Craftsman workbenches.
A consumable biomaterial factory, 38 cube-shaped UM Weapons, 344 sets of armor, 600 accessories from First Level to Third Level, and six Mage Pendants.
They also found various other miscellaneous items, including first aid kits, but Lin Yi wasn’t too concerned about those.
The soldiers didn’t find any formulas or blueprints; possibly the zombies had eaten them.
The last thing they found was a small green treasure chest.
Lin Yi teleported the treasure chest to the Treasure Room.
He now had three treasure chests: one purple, one blue, and one green.
The shelter received four scrap tanks and eight battered armored combat vehicles.
Only one combat vehicle was relatively intact, and they also got six jeeps and four military trucks.
All the loot was sent back to the shelter, and everyone went home.
Lin Yi planned to return to Hanover in the morning to continue scavenging, but now he needed some sleep.
While he was in a deep sleep, something happened.
In the middle of the night, a large group of dark gray, pigeon-sized flying creatures flew into the shelter’s territory.
Lin Yi had long expected something like this might happen, so there were Devourers patrolling the border of the shard region, with their controllers nearby.
Kaya was woken up by her mother and informed of the current situation.
She spread her slender wings and flew towards the enemies, first firing a Chain Lightning.
A hundred flying creatures fell to the ground.
Some tried to fly away in different directions, but the Devourers handled them...
~~~~~~
Meanwhile, on what was once the Water Crane Ark...
A group of warriors infiltrated the city.
Hundreds of thousands of zombies ran rampant here, and the mountains were surrounded.
However, the Water Crane Race crafted kite-like devices and used them to descend into the city.
Of course, without air magic, this strategy would not work at all.
A group of monkey paratroopers landed silently on the rooftop of a three-story building deep in the city.
They were only ten in number, all dressed in flowing blue garments. They communicated via hand signals, formulated a plan, and then ran off in different directions.
The orders these warriors received were to investigate the situation inside and outside the city.
A male Water Crane clansman tightly gripped a bundle of blackened wheat, "The island’s poison has already spread to the eastern fields..."
This warrior carefully sneaked through the fields.
His companions needed to survey the southern and eastern fields. As long as one field remained intact, there was hope for their people.
Meanwhile, the northern fields had been trampled during the siege, with poison starting to spread from the north.
The warrior took samples of seemingly intact but poisoned wheat, then headed towards the city.
He had another mission: to gather supplies and transport them to the foot of the mountain.
However, upon reaching the rendezvous point, some companions had already arrived.
"The southern fields are fine!"
"The eastern fields are infected... all the wheat will be destroyed in a day or at most two."
"The western fields are the same; all the livestock are dead, and the crops are starting to rot."
"There are relatively few undead creatures in the city. Most are gathered around the mountains," a short Water Crane clansman with black fur said.
Naked in the night, he was almost invisible, but his eyes, glowing faintly blue under the moonlight, betrayed his presence.
"If we make too much noise, a large group of zombies will soon appear in the city," an elder warrior shook his head, saying.
"We can create some distractions, divert those undead creatures."
"No, that would only alert the zombies to our presence, and we still have to find a way back to the mountain."
"What should we do then?"
"I remember a warehouse with a fence. If there are zombies there, we’ll quickly and quietly deal with them. Then we’ll take bags and sneak back to the mountain."
The warriors pondered for a moment, then nodded in agreement. After settling on a plan, they set off.
The ten warriors moved from one rooftop to another in absolute silence.
They could easily jump from one building to another, even if the gap was thirty meters apart, and they did so without making a sound.
Their control of the wind made them the fastest and most agile warriors among the four schools.
"Stop!" The squad leader signaled with his hand.
"What’s wrong?"
"There’s an enemy, get down and don’t move!"
The warriors lay flat on the ground, motionless.
A large group of zombies led by a Third Level mutant with massive claws passed below them.
They were hunting for survivors hidden in the city.
"The path is cleared." The warrior signaled, getting up again.
Once the warriors nodded in confirmation, the leader stood up, looked around, and signaled to proceed.
They quickly found the warehouse.
Fortunately, this area was free of zombies. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
The warriors cautiously and quietly opened the warehouse, each taking two sacks weighing twenty pounds.
"There are survivors there," a warrior said softly as he ran, pointing to one of the houses.
Three young Water Crane clansmen huddled on the rooftop.
"We can’t save them." The elder warrior quickly glanced at the survivors, shaking his head.
They had to return to the mountain, and those survivors had no chance.
They all understood this, but it still tormented them within.
On reaching the city’s edge, the warriors waited.
They had completed their mission ahead of schedule.
One warrior tossed the sack aside: "Forgive me, I can’t abandon those kids."
"You’re just sentencing yourself and them to death!" the experienced warrior reprimanded in a low voice.
"They’ll die. They have no food and water, they’re scared and exhausted... I’d rather die trying to save them than live with the guilt of abandoning them..."
"I’ll go with you."
"There are three of them, right? We’ll go, the three of us!" another warrior chimed in.
"You idiots! These supplies could save many lives..."
"I know! Thank you, brothers!"
"Let’s go, we have to hurry back!"
Three warriors ran back toward the house with the children on the rooftop, but... they were too late.
The mutant and its attendants had already found the children and surrounded the house.
"Brothers, it looks like we’re doomed..."
"At least we’ll die for a noble cause!" the middle-aged Water Crane clansman replied with a smile.
The third warrior said nothing, busy adjusting his clothes to make sure they wouldn’t hinder him in battle...
