Apocalypse: I Build A Doomsday Train-Chapter 35 - 31: The Motorcycle Girl Rider
Chapter 35: Chapter 31: The Motorcycle Girl Rider
Lin Xian looked at the young girl in front of him, who was speaking with conviction, and said with a light smile, "From what you’re saying, it sounds like you have a better idea?"
"Of course," KIKI said, brimming with confidence. "Now that we’re all in the same boat, even if I don’t consider you, this bad guy, I have to think about my own safety. Given the current situation, how do we get to Jin Hai?"
"Let’s hear it."
KIKI looked at him, "Your superpower is to manipulate machinery, right?"
Lin Xian nodded, "That’s right."
"Perfect." KIKI snapped her fingers confidently and said, "I know of a military outpost nearby in North Bay City. We should be able to find a good amount of military supplies there. If we’re lucky, you might even get your hands on a radar system or Sentinel System. At worst, some weapons—all of which are better than you fighting bugs with a knife last night, right?"
Hearing this, Chen Sixuan next to them couldn’t hide her incredulity and said, "A military outpost? How would you know about such things?"
"I know more than you think." KIKI said proudly, her eyes turning to Lin Xian. "What do you say, shall we team up?"
Lin Xian looked at her, smiled faintly, but his eyes were cold.
"I refuse."
"Wh-what?!" KIKI’s expression suddenly froze; just a moment ago Lin Xian had seemed so interested, so why did his demeanor suddenly turn cold?
"What... what do you mean?"
Lin Xian’s gaze became icy as it landed on her, he drawled slowly,
"I don’t like to be manipulated by others. If you think just because you have awakened a superpower you can oppose me, then we’d better settle life and death right here and be done with it. It will also spare us the mutual suspicion on the road."
KIKI faltered, "I... I don’t want to oppose you."
Lin Xian said with a light laugh, "I can take you to Jin Hai; after all, it’s just another city along the Star Orbital. But I don’t want to make any deal with you, or do something specifically for you. Right now, we survive day by day. If I take you on the road, it’s because I can trust you and you bring value to the team. So, no one here will serve you, food is limited, and everyone needs to collaborate. I don’t care whether you going to Jin Hai will benefit me at all. Do you understand?"
Perhaps others would think Lin Xian’s view was shortsighted, but in the apocalypse, the immediate situation always outweighs future prospects. He had to consider daily survival and find ways to escape the eternal night. Promises of future benefits, he wouldn’t give them too much thought.
Thinking too much was a burden. KIKI wanted to use this notion to negotiate with him for a special status on the train, to boss him around, but she had calculated wrongly.
For other survivors, such expectations could make them insanely dedicated, but Lin Xian was not such a person.
A person whose heart is not sincere, no matter how capable, is of no value to him.
Most crucially, he needed to instill a sense of crisis in KIKI; otherwise, if he showed compromise, she might think Lin Xian feared her superpower.
If that’s the case, it’s better to clarify whether she is friend or foe.
KIKI watched as Lin Xian looked at her with a smile that, for some reason, did not seem warm at all. On the contrary, it felt as if the moment she turned her back, that smile would transform into a terrifying ghoul, ready to devour her with its sharp fangs.
Faced with Lin Xian’s strong statement, KIKI’s gaze started to flicker. After a moment of silence, she averted her eyes, hugged her legs on the sofa, rested her chin on her knees, and lost her previous self-satisfaction. She looked at him with large eyes, like a kitten, and let out an "Oh~".
"Oh what?" Lin Xian’s gaze intensified.
"Then I’ll listen to you," KIKI said, tapping her index fingers together, her voice less sharp though still slightly resentful, "Just don’t let me go hungry..."
Lin Xian stood up, took a can of fruit and a packet of snacks from the storage rack, and tossed them to her, his voice cold, "I don’t care what your status was before, but on this train, you’d better not have other intentions. Everyone has only one life. If you can’t make me feel secure, I will throw you off, no matter how useful you are."
KIKI, hearing these words, glanced around sneakily, observing him and wondering about something. She opened the can, took a bite, and was quiet for a while, then broke the silence.
"My name is Wen Qi."
"Is that name fake too?"
KIKI blushed slightly, "No, I’ve always been called KIKI, Wen Qi is my real name."
Lin Xian nodded, hearing the amicable intent in her words, his tone softened as well
"I can take it as a sign of your sincerity towards me."
"Can I make a request?" KIKI asked.
"Speak."
"Let me have the second compartment."
KIKI didn’t fancy spending all day and night in the same compartment with Lin Xian and Chen Sixuan, despite her carefree personality, she was still a 16-year-old girl with some sensitivity towards matters of men and women.
"No problem." Lin Xian nodded, "But the second compartment is quite empty, it needs some preparation to make it livable."
"I can figure that out myself."
"Hmm?!" Lin Xian’s gaze turned stern, his tone unfriendly.
KIKI hurriedly backpedaled, speaking obediently, "What I mean is, I’ll go through your approval, and of course, I’ll need your help too~"
"That’s more like it." Lin Xian was much more satisfied with KIKI’s attitude now.
After a period of ’friendly’ negotiation, Lin Xian tentatively accepted this girl with the complex identity, and after last night’s battle, he recognized KIKI’s value as well.
"Hey~"
Seeing Lin Xian about to leave, KIKI pouted and called out to him "Bad guy, are you still thinking about that military outpost?"
Lin Xian frowned, "There are no traps, right?"
KIKI rolled her eyes at him, her tone surprisingly gentle, "If you don’t trust me, I can go with you."
Lin Xian’s expression darkened. He could tell that KIKI’s words were sincere this time, and he also reevaluated his "Infinity Train" plan, realizing there were many shortcomings.
With his superpower, it was only possible to say that he temporarily got rid of the energy issue, but since the journey began, each trouble he encountered was more fatal than the energy problem.
So when KIKI told him about a military outpost in North Bay City, Lin Xian was deeply intrigued.
He urgently needed to upgrade "Infinity’s" armor and weaponry, and such a large moving fortress required a more sophisticated surveillance system. He himself needed to urgently improve the level of Mechanical Heart or obtain more useful skills.
Lin Xian had once imagined that an ordinary hairdryer could give him a powerful "Wind Cannon" skill, and if it were military weapons, perhaps the absorption might come with even more surprises!
So, from any perspective, he decided he couldn’t rush blindly into the night anymore. He needed sufficient self-preservation measures.
With that thought, Lin Xian nodded, "I do indeed want to upgrade the train’s armor and weaponry. We can check out that military outpost you mentioned, and also stock up on some supplies at North Bay Town."
"Great, great, great!" KIKI’s eyes lit up, pointing in the direction of the third compartment, "Shall we ride that there?"
Lin Xian frowned and glanced at her, "Do you know how to ride?"
"Hmph, who do you think you’re looking down on?" KIKI turned to her side, revealing a delicate tattoo on the side of her waist, a black cat’s head wearing sunglasses, coupled with her long, smooth legs beneath the ultra-short shorts gave off an inexplicable punk girl vibe.
"Do you know what my former alias was?"
"Spiritual Sister?"
"Ptooey! It was Lunar Black Rider!"
"Black motorcyclist?"
"Ptooey! You country bumpkin!"
